DefinitionsII. God’s Word - Inspired & PreservedIII. Why so many versions?“We believe in the divine, verbal and plenary inspiration of the Scriptures in the original languages, their consequent inerrancy and infallibility, and, as the Word of God, the supreme and final authority in faith and life”I) DEFINITIONS1. VPI (Verbal Plenary Inspiration)V is “Verbal”, implies “word for word”P is “Plenary”, implies “complete or absolute”I is “Inspiration”, literally means God breathed.Verbal Inspiration means every word of the Bible is inspired (Matt 5:18). Plenary Inspiration means the Bible as a whole is inspired (2 Tim 3:16).12. VPP (Verbal Plenary Preservation)V is “Verbal”, implies “word for word”P is “Plenary”, implies “complete or absolute”P is “Preservation” meaning “kept from corruption or error”“Verbal” means “every word to the jot and tittle” (Ps 12:6–7, Matt 5:18). “Plenary” means “the Scripture as a whole with all the words intact” (Matt 24:35, 1 Pet 1:25). So VPP means the whole of Scripture with all its words even to the jot and tittle is perfectly preserved by God without any loss of the original words, prophecies, promises, commandments, doctrines, and truths, not only in the words of salvation, but also the words of history, geography and science. Every book, every chapter, every verse, every word, every syllable, every letter is infallibly preserved by the Lord Himself to the last iota.23. INERRANTMeans without mistake4. INFALLIBLEMeans incapable of making mistake5. VPI AND VPPVPI is the one-time act of God in the past when He breathed out (theopneustos) the original language words in the autographs of the Holy Scriptures. VPP, on the other hand, is the continuous act of God in preserving the very same original language words in the apographs (or copies) of the Holy Scriptures wehave in our hands today. 3Is believing in VPI enough? It is just as important that we believe in Verbal Plenary Preservation of the Scriptures- God inspired every Word which the prophets and apostles originally wrote (VPI)- Those words are of no benefit to Christians if God did not immediately begin to preserve His Word from the time it was written so that Christians down the centuries continue to have His inspired Word- We can be perfectly confident today that we can know every word exactly as He originally inspired it because God has preserved His Word completely since the day it was written. (VPP)- VPI and VPP are twin doctrines that enables us to defend against the attacks on the Bible today.====Bible Passage (KJV): 2 Timothy 3:16 & Psalm 12:6-72 Timothy 3:1616 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:Psalm 12:6-76 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.====Church Series on the Inerrancy & Preservation of ScripturesBible Presbyterian Church of WAFriday 6th April 2018To view the series playlist, use this link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6OB8vJkwMmIQz3rgWgBcUDTo watch this video on YouTube, use this link: https://youtu.be/Kv7RJYl-pVsIf you were helped by this recording, please share this with someone who would benefit from this.
