The Journey Through Grief and Saying What You Need by Mike Huber
from West Hills Friends · host West Hills Friends
For the message, Mike read Matthew 7:7-12 and spoke about his journey through grief. Mike described his grief as disorienting and exhausting. From within that place of exhaustion, advice feels like a burden. Because he takes no comfort from those who have been unkind, Mike has learned that how we treat each other day-to-day sets the context for who we can be to each other in a crisis. Perhaps most importantly, Mike has learned that we should trust that other people are experts in what they need(instead of believing that we know better); giving people space to identify their own needs and move at their own pace is a gift. Are you able to say what you need? Just as importantly: Are you able to trust others to say what they need? How can you create space for people to say what they need, without feeling obligated to give what is not yours to give?
