Creative Spirit with Art Psychotherapist and Author: Samantha HickmanSamantha qualified as an Art Psychotherapist from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore and holds a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art from University of Plymouth, UK.Born in Beirut, Lebanon, prior to the beginning of the civil war, Sam was brought up between the Middle East (Morocco and Saudi Arabia) and the UK, before her family moved to Asia where she lived for a total of 23 years (Hong Kong and Singapore).Sam became an art psychotherapist to integrate her own creative practice into working with others and covers a wide spectrum of reasons for therapy from depression, stress, and anxiety, to anger and grief and loss. She completed her clinical placement with the Singapore Cancer Society, working with adults living with cancer, and went on to employment with the organisation before relocating to the city Bath, UK, in 2019, where she now works as a socially engaged artist alongside her private practice. Sam has exhibited in Singapore and the UK, has delivered workshops at international conferences and universities, and is a published writer on art therapy, practices and processes. She is a member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and the Australian, NewZealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapy Association, (ANZACATA), and HCPC registered.
