“In this powerful look at Mark 15 and the mysterious ending of the Gospel of Mark, the sermon titled “The Un:Ending" challenges us to reframe our understanding of both Jesus’ mission and our place in the ongoing story of God’s work in the world. Jesus, the God-incarnate Savior, came not to rule like the kings of the world, but to bring restoration, healing, and reconciliation between God and mankind. He did this by going to the outcasts, speaking life where there was death, and ultimately laying down His life for the salvation of humanity.

At the heart of the message lies the profound truth found in Mark 15: "He is not here." These words, spoken at Jesus' empty tomb, mark the turning point in history, where the earthly ministry of Jesus seemingly ends but the story continues—without a definitive conclusion. The abrupt ending in Mark, especially with early manuscripts omitting the final verses (Mark 16:9-20), invites us to consider three key truths:

  1. It’s Just the Beginning of the Story. The Gospel of Mark might have intentionally ended at verse 8, leaving the story unfinished. This invites us to see that the work of Jesus, while accomplished on the cross, is far from over. As disciples, we are part of the ongoing narrative, called to carry the mission forward. This is a story we are invited to write ourselves.
  2. Find Your Part in the Middle. Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God’s workmanship, created for a purpose. The story of Jesus didn’t end with His resurrection—it continues with us. We are called to step into the middle of the story, discovering our unique role and purpose. The Un:Ending is not a conclusion but an invitation to find ourselves in God's greater narrative.
  3. Trust God in the End Whether you consider Mark’s ending at verse 8 or at verse 20, both leave us with an invitation to trust. In the face of uncertainty or unanswered questions, God is still sovereign. "What is God inviting you into?" Whether in the quiet of a tomb or in the commission to go to Galilee, God calls us to follow with faith and obedience. As we reflect on this Un:Ending, we are reminded that the journey of faith is not a finished story but an ongoing one—one in which Jesus, who laid down His life for us, invites us to participate. Through our obedience and trust, the story of restoration continues to unfold in us and through us.#ThisIsTheGospel #SermonSunday #Faith #Gospel #Christianity #Church #Hope #Prayer #Abide #HolySpirit #Community #Bible #TheWordofGod #EndTimes #Messiah #Guidance"
