Deep Dive into Wisdom Literature: The Psalms, Part II by Bob DeffinbaughThe death of Jesus Christ was not an accident but a deliberate fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, which served as a divine script. Unlike the common belief that Jesus was a passive victim, He actively orchestrated the events leading to His crucifixion. For example, He forced the Jewish religious leaders to alter their plans so He would be crucified rather than stoned, and put to death publicly during Passover rather than in secret. He also deliberately set the stage for His arrest at a specific time and place by dismissing Judas during the Last Supper. Throughout His trial and crucifixion, Jesus remained in complete control, fulfilling specific prophecies such as ensuring His legs were not broken. The Messianic Psalms, predominantly written by David, played a crucial role in detailing these events. Originally, these psalms were not recognized as prophecies by their authors or ancient readers, who did not expect a suffering Savior. Often, the psalmist would describe personal distress using poetic exaggeration that ultimately served as literal prophecy for the Messiah's experiences. Jesus deeply understood these psalms and used them as His guide. The Gospel of Matthew highlights multiple fulfillments, including the division of His garments, the offering of vinegar, the mockery of the crowd, and His direct quotation of Psalm 22 from the cross.Furthermore, the Messianic Psalms foretold the resurrection and exaltation of the Messiah. In his sermon at Pentecost, the Apostle Peter utilized Psalms 16 and 110 to demonstrate that God would not allow His Holy One to undergo decay and would elevate Him to His right hand. Ultimately, Christ's resurrection serves as God's seal of approval on His atoning work, offering the promise of eternal life to believers while warning of future judgment for those who reject Him.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@ReformedExplainerSpotify Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1t5dz4vEgvHqUknYQfwpRI?si=e-tDRFR2Qf6By1sAcMdkdwhttps://buymeacoffee.com/edi2730
