"There's something wrong with comedians, we need the attention..." EP31 with Adam Fields
from Can't Find My Way Home... · host Craig
In this episode of Can’t Find My Way Home, I was joined by Adam Fields. Adam is in the somewhat unique position of having lived outside of England, longer than he’s actually lived there. 25 years and counting. Adam has also been a professional stand-up comedian for just as long. He guides us through, both his expat journey, and his unorthodox route into stand-up. Adam has performed in over 40 countries, from Curacao to Borneo, to living room festivals in South Africa and details some of the more memorable shows. Closer to home, Adam explains why the Dutch have a reputation for being a tough crowd - tougher than the Germans. We also get an insight into the Dutch sense of humour and what makes them laugh. We look at how the ‘lockdown’ (the first one) affected performers in Amsterdam, and how they gradually got audiences back into clubs again. And then Lockdown ‘light’ hit us near the end of the year. As well as how to make a living in the business and the challenge of turning around the atmosphere of a room. There’s chat about learning from a Hall of Fame Clown (Arthur Peddlar), what comedians make him laugh, and the exotic charms of ‘Chat Roulette’. All this and black and white TV’s, an audience with Billy Connolly, and having a split personality!
