(Third) Book of Nephi Chapter Two. Book of Mormon First Edition.

The Nephites gather themselves together in the land of Zarahemla to protect themselves from the Gadianton robbers who made an oath to kill them if they didnt give up their lands and possessions and join them. The Nephites pray hard for God's help and are blessed to succeed in winning against them. Mormon (who is narrating and condensing all the stories from the records and sharing them) speaks some words saying he is a pure descendant of Lehi who left Jerusalem and that he was named Mormon after the waters of Mormon where Alma baptised. He says he is a disciple of Jesus Christ and called to declare His word. He says he makes a record of the things he has seen with his own eyes and that the plates he engraves upon are those he has made himself.
