Titus 1:5-9: Doctrine and Devotion Series week 5

from Faith Sermons and Studies · host Faith Baptist Church

Have you ever noticed there is a direct correlation between a groups leadership and those who follow that leader? You can search nearly anywhere, and in nearly any setting, you will find, that there is a correlation between a group and how they live or act, and the leader they follow. The same thing is true in the church. Church leaders, ministry leaders, can have an incredible impact on those who follow them. And in can be the case in the church that church members pick up certain qualities or character traits from their pastor and whether knowingly or not, they can model them. Pastors and teachers in the church have, and can have, a large impact on the people within the church. We’d like to think that is a good impact, but unfortunately that’s not always the case. Pastors are humans too, and sometimes our negative traits can influence church members in a negative way. ‌‌ And as we come to our text today, this seems to be the case with the churches on Crete. They had pastors and leaders who were living ungodly lives, and their lifestyle had an impact on the members of their churches, which in turn affected the church members in a negative way—they were beginning to be affected by the bad character of their pastors. So Paul sent Titus to set things right in the church and raise up new elders. And as he does that, Paul reminds Titus what churches should look for in a pastor, and why the character of a pastor is so vitally important. Paul teaches Titus: ‌‌ Big Idea: Leadership influences membership; so churches need to choose the right leaders
