In der Nacht auf den 19. Jänner 2025 stirbt Kerstin G. am Großglockner. Laut Staatsanwaltschaft erfriert sie rund 50 Meter unterhalb des Gipfelkreuzes. Sie wollte Österreichs höchsten Berg gemeinsam mit ihrem Partner Thomas P. besteigen – nur er kehrte ins Tal zurück. Am 19. Februar muss sich Thomas P. wegen grob fahrlässiger Tötung vor dem Landesgericht Innsbruck verantworten. Die Anklage wirft ihm vor, bei der Tour die maßgeblichen Entscheidungen getroffen zu haben, weil er im hochalpinen Gelände deutlich erfahrener gewesen sei als Kerstin G. Laut Staatsanwaltschaft werden ihm neun Fehler angelastet – darunter ein zu später Start, fehlende Notfallausrüstung, dass das Paar nicht rechtzeitig umkehrte und dass ein Notruf zu spät abgesetzt worden sei. Im Fall einer Verurteilung drohen bis zu drei Jahre Haft. Thomas P. bekennt sich nicht schuldig; es gilt die Unschuldsvermutung. Der Fall beschäftigt nicht nur das Gericht, sondern wirft eine grundsätzliche Frage auf: Wie sieht Verantwortung am Berg aus – und wie kippt eine Tour in eine Lage, aus der es kein Zurück mehr gibt? In dieser ersten Folge der "Inside Austria"-Miniserie rekonstruieren wir die Tour bis zu dem Punkt, an dem es kein Zurück mehr für die beiden gibt.
