I wrote this song in between last March of this year to last night, September 26, 2016. It is about a situation I was watching unfold in a very upsetting moment in two people's lives. I wrote it the night I witnessed it, and under the circumstances, felt it was too real to finish or even work on. I recently stumbled upon it while perusing my music files and just fell in love with the melody and arrangement all over again, and decided to go ahead and finish the lyrics and see what happens. This is what happened. It remains a true country song, both loving and miserable. One of those 'grab a beer and cry in it' type of songs. I'm glad to say that the people that inspired the song are doing much better than the song indicates - in fact, the song's ending is fictitious. Still, a sad country song is a sad country song - and you're gonna need a beer to cry into if you're planning on listening to this one. Oh, side note: The poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost is one of my favorite poems by him. I first heard of it when we, as 7th graders, were forced to read the book called 'The Outsiders' by SE Hinton. In it, she has the main character, Ponyboy, recite it to his fellow Greaser, Johnnyboy, as they are on the lamb for the murder of a popular, but evil Soc. Yeah ... great stuff. But, the poem ... he expresses how just as there is the first morning dew, when the sun comes up, it is golden ... but as the day goes on, it leaves just as all the firsts of the day eventually do, reminding us that nothing that pure, or golden can stay ... it's beautiful. In my song - the gold represents the wedding band. I think you get the picture from there ... Thank you, Tomás LYRICS ----------- NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY by Tomás G Robinson Now that things are clear Now that we're a mess I can hardly sleep No such thing as rest What am I supposed to do What's left for me to say When all my world is dark When all my world is grey I loved you most of all I loved you most, it seems There's nothing to recall That you felt that way for me What else can we do What's left for me to say It's like that famous poem 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' If you want me to be the boy who married you I'd like for you to be at least the girl who cared for me And if we're gonna stay, all I'll know is what you'll say So far it's not enough To make this kind of love I loved you most of all I loved you most, it seems And I'm not one to fall For the lies you're feeding me Everything is wrong I don't know what's real And you refuse to speak When there's so much to reveal Everybody knows Every reason why We should break away Or we should really try All I have to do is look into your eyes To see if you still love me now Or we should say goodbye Once upon a time There was a young man And he was fifteen years The world was in his hands Never could he have known Never could he have planned This girl of fourteen years Would one day wear his wedding band If you want me to be the boy who married you I'd like for you to be at least the girl who cared for me And if we're gonna stay, all I'll know is what you'll say So far it's not enough To make this kind of love Nothing gold can stay When life gets in the way Nothing gold can stay Nothing gold can stay When life gets in the way Nothing gold can stay When life gets in the way Nothing gold can stay When life gets in the way (c) 2016 tgrJams Music Productions ALL RIGHTS RESERVED released September 26, 2016 Written, Produced, Arranged, Programmed & Performed by Tomás
