What To Do About Denial

from Dementia Careblazers · host Natali Edmonds

Many people with dementia look like they have denial when they actually have something called anonosognosia. Anosognosia means total lack of awareness and it means that there is no amount of evidence, convincing, or reasonsing that will ever get them to understand that they have cognitive limitations. When you try to point out how they need help, it often makes things worse. In today's episode, I talk about what you can do when someone with dementia seems to be in "denial" and you need them to understand something.  For a brief description on how anosognosia differs from denial and important things to avoid, please click HERE to watch one of my videos. The numbers don't lie- new onset dementia is a diagnosis seen with greater frequency. Is it because of chronic brain inflammation that started before you were born? Is it because of undiagnosed stealth infections, toxic burdens or something else?In this podcast, we explore the science of health habits that will change the direction of your brain health forever. You will be challenged, like I was, to RETHINK what it means to be healthy. This podcast is hosted by Sande Bargeron, PhD, who, after years in the medical field, was forced to re-examine foundational health and the meaning of healing. After dealing with personal autoimmune issues, losing a family member to dementia, struggling with kids who had ADHD and a child with chronic neurological Lyme Disease, she learned that protecting the brain was a highly overlooked aspect of human health. We medicate brain issues, but Living With Lewy Larry Anderson My name is Larry and I live with Lewy Body Dementia.
