When Truckers Die Away From Home

from TalkCDL Trucking Podcast

When Truckers Die Away From Home. Truck drivers are killed at a rate of 800 to 1000 times a year. That's an average of 2.7 truckers per day. In many cases, family members are abandoned by the trucking company that offers no help in retrieving the body. We recently heard of a trucker that was killed while on the road. His wife attempted to contact the company for help bringing him home. She did not get so much as a phone call. This happens more often than none. Trucking companies all across America feel they have no responsibility to help recover the driver that was committed to them, hauling their freight. There is an answer to this madness. Truckers Final Mile, is a Non-profit organization set up to help this particular problem. Robert Palm, the founder of TFI has seen his share of these issues over his career. He experienced first hand, a trucking company refusing to help him, when he was involved in a wreck many years ago. In 2012 he started Truckers Final Mile to help families get their loved ones home once they have died on the road. Many families live pay check to pay check. With Mother rating kids and Poppa working hard to keep the family going, a death is devastating and hits you right in the bank account. Thanks to Palm, families have a place they can turn too. The Convoy The peoples convoy is headed to Washington DC. They are set to leave Maryland and circle the beltway in DC. The truckers have promised to be peaceful during their protest. There are about 6 convoys in total that are set to be in Washington.
