Why Do the Nations Rage? The Reign of God’s Anointed King (Psalm 2) | David Brown, et al.

from Reformed Thinking · host Edison Wu

Deep Dive into Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible by David Brown, et al. - Psalm 2Psalm 2 is a highly poetical work organized into four stanzas of three verses each, focusing on the establishment of Jesus Christ's Mediatorial kingdom despite human opposition. Although the imagery may have been inspired by the military events of King David's reign, the New Testament confirms its ultimate fulfillment in the life and character of Christ. The psalm begins by describing the furious, tumultuous rebellion of nations, peoples, and their rulers against God's government. The leaders take a stand and deliberate against the Lord and His anointed, a title translating to Messiah or Christ. This anointed figure perfectly encompasses the historical roles of prophet, priest, and king. The commentary notes that this rebellion culminated historically during Christ's trial, vividly portrayed by the coordinated actions of Pilate, Herod, the Jewish leaders, and the angry mob. These rebels deliberately seek to cast off the restraints of divine authority. In response to this futile hostility, God, enthroned in the heavens, laughs with supreme contempt at their vain rage. His righteous indignation is roused, and He declares His unwavering determination to install His appointed King upon the holy hill of Zion. This newly installed King then proclaims the fundamental law of His universal dominion, which is rooted in His eternal Sonship, as God declares, "this day have I begotten thee".The psalm concludes by affirming that this kingdom will universally extend to the uttermost parts of the earth. Enemies who resist will face severe judgment and total destruction, symbolized by a rod of iron shattering a potter's vessel. Consequently, rulers are urged to submit penitently and acknowledge the Son's authority. Inevitable ruin awaits those who persist in opposing Christ, while sure happiness and refuge are guaranteed for all who place their trust in Him.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@ReformedExplainerSpotify Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1t5dz4vEgvHqUknYQfwpRI?si=e-tDRFR2Qf6By1sAcMdkdwhttps://buymeacoffee.com/edi2730
