Why Michigan State Football Needs To Adopt An Air Raid Offense | Michigan State Football 2023
from College Football with Sam · host Samuel Recker
Few offenses in College Football can be as fascinating and frustrating as the Air Raid. With a dynamic scheme that is pass-heavy in nature, Mike Leach's Texas Tech and Washington State, Sonny Dykes SMU and TCU, and Mac Brown's North Carolina have all used the Air Raid to success. TCU used it to win the National Championship Game last year and beat Michigan's vaunted defense in the Fiesta Bowl. Mike Leach has used the Air Raid to destroy several high-profile schools and coaches, so why shouldn't Michigan State adopt it? The Spartans' personnel fits the scheme well, as they have great depth at Wide Receiver and Tight End, and they also have a reliable Quarterback in Payton Thorne who has solid arm strength and, when given adequate protection, can make great decisions. The Runningback room, while improved compared to last year, is in no shape to compete with the rest of the conference, while the Receiver groups are on par with every Big Ten team except for Ohio State. All of these are reasons for the Spartans to make the switch and play to their strengths rather than weaknesses.
