Why Woke Content Is TRASH

from THINK BEFORE YOU SLEEP · host THINK BEFORE YOU SLEEP

A beloved franchise replaces its male lead with a younger female version who lectures the audience about privilege. A classic cartoon is rewritten to remove all references to gender. A streaming service cancels a popular show because its creator posted an edgy meme. The result is not progress. It is unwatchable garbage. In this episode, I break down why woke entertainment fails. The data is clear: films and television shows that prioritize political messaging over storytelling lose money. Disney's 2023 slate of diversity-driven content underperformed by over $1 billion. Netflix canceled six progressive series in one quarter because no one watched them. Audiences do not hate diversity. They hate being lectured. The best entertainment in history featured diverse casts and complex themes. The difference is that great writers put character before ideology. They wrote villains who were interesting and heroes who were flawed. Woke content replaces nuance with virtue signaling. It mistakes representation for storytelling. The result is flat, preachy, and boring.Turn down the lights, put on your headphones, and press play because the audience is not the problem. The content is trash.
