Xero Australia country manager Will Buckley says artificial intelligence is rich with possibilities for the accounting profession and that he couldn't resist testing ChatGPT – the high-profile bot launched last November by OpenAI. "I was excited to get into it and just see what's capable of," Mr Buckley said on this week's Accountants Daily Insider. "A couple of the questions that I chucked in there I got complete nonsense responses!" "I started to go down the tangent of trying to figure out if it was capable of delivering tax planning advice. So I asked some questions [for example] how would you navigate through establishing a pretty good estate plan and self-managed super fund for high-net-worth individuals?" "Obviously, the technology is not all the way there yet!"

The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
