Sometimes we can wait too long to find our passion. An estimated 80% of Americans are unhappy with their employment situation, but one career coach, consultant, and counselor supposes that the reason many of us stay in jobs we aren't happy with, is because we're waiting to "find our passion." It's important to do work that you care about, but don't let the pursuit of passion render you motionless. Sometimes, a better approach is to follow your curiosity. You may not have it all figured out. You'll stumble along the way. But you'll gain valuable experience, and you might make some great connections that can lead to something amazing in the future. But what about when it gets scary? Fear is another big reason we don't move forward on our goals. Often, though, the fear we anticipate isn't a real, tangible thing, but the worst-case "what ifs" we've imagined. In the face of fear, sometimes wisdom dictates that we slam on the brakes, or turn around. Or at least, that we slow down and proceed with caution. But sometimes in the face of great fear, the best course of action is to step on the gas and buckle up. What goal or idea have you been avoiding?
