O yoga/meditação não exige dons naturais e/ou tipos psicológicos específicos, na verdade, todos os seres humanos nasceram dotados de um circuito neurofisiológico para meditar. Mesmo a sua avó que nunca meditou, saiba, ela possui um caminho neuroquímico que a capacita e se beneficiar do yoga/meditação, assim como o Dalai Lama. Sempre que direcionamos a nossa atenção em alguma coisa que nos interesse (pode ser este livro em suas mãos por exemplo, ou quando avistamos um predador, uma presa ou parceiro(a) sexual aprazível) os neurônios do seu córtex pré-frontal se “ativam/funcionam”. Estes, por sua vez, fazem “entrar em ação” os neurônios de outra área cerebral próxima (como uma rede elétrica que vai se acendendo), o giro cingulado (GC). Quando o GC funciona mais ativamente ele, ao contrário do que descrevemos até agora, põe para “dormir” uma terceira região encefálica envolvida no processo meditativo, a porção límbica do tálamo.
