A Filmmaker's History

In the final episode of our first season, Matthew and Shubh look back and reflect on the previous 65 episodes, figuring out what we can learn from the Walt Disney Animation Studios catalogue and where exactly this studio fits within the realm of filmmaking, pop culture, and the general zeitgeist of what has become multiple generations of people in the U.S. and abroad.

In the penultimate episode of our first season, Matthew and Shubh review and reflect on the most recent, and possibly ongoing, era of the Walt Disney Animation Studios that dominated the 2010s: the Disney Revival.

From Fantasia 2000 (2000) to Bolt (2008), the duo share their history with this era, their thoughts on the regime changes of the studio, and reflect on the general characteristics and reception of the decade's work.

Matthew is joined by Kate Blaylock as well as first time guest Adriana Sfara to deep dive into the 2008 comedy, action Disney film Bolt. 

Matthew and Shubh deep dive into the 2007 time traveling comedy Disney film: Meet the Robinsons.

Matthew is once again joined by Ben Hefter and Andres De La Sierra, this time looking into the new animation style, postmodern comedy, and subtle social commentary found in the 2005 Disney film: Chicken Little. 

Matthew and Nick J get back to together for a shorter episode to go into the writing, animation, and voice acting behind Disney's 2004 animated film Home on the Range.

Matthew and Kate get together again to discuss one of the more traditional films of this era,  2003's Brother Bear. 

Matthew and Teagan reunite to break down another sci-fi cult classic, this time in the form of Disney's 2002 film Treasure Planet.

Matt and Matt reunite to dive into one of the more successful Disney films of the 00's. Breaking down the watercolor art, the themes of friendship, and even the importance of Hawaii, Matthew and Matteen get a chance to talk about one of their favorite films from the Studio overall.

As we reach the end of the Disney Renaissance, Matthew and Shubh take a look back to the last ten films to discuss what signature elements and trademark motifs define this era of filmmaking, which they do mainly through ranked lists.

Matthew, Teagan, and Shubh close out the Disney Renaissance by breaking down one of the most technologically significant and structurally unique films in all of Walt Disney Animation Studios' filmography, the 1999 adventure romance film Tarzan.
