Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” The lost years of WWE developmental and a double dose of The Blanchard Territory (153 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by Scotland’s Loveliest Podcast Eddie Sideburns for the March edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. In an unprecedented move, this edition sees us look at three shows as Alan could not choose between two episodes of 1983 South West wrestling aka “The Blanchard Territory,” so both ended up on the watch-list along with Eddie’s pick of 2009 Florida Championship Wrestling during a forgotten era of WWE developmental. These may be two wildly different promotions (in so many ways), but they both had their share of controversies! We got people running around stealing tiaras and video tapes, disputed results, old grudges resurfacing, and new ones developing. It’s all discussed along with Terry Funk being Terry Funk (YAY), Josh Matthew being Josh Matthews (BOO), and Brian Cage & The Barbarian like you’ve never seen them before! So break open an early Easter Egg, relax with a milky tea, and check out what’s on the telly with us! DIRECT LINK: VIP AUDIO LINK NOT VIP? Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: Satanico, Newman, Tigers Mask, Moxley, and more in an eclectic potpourri episode (68 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L takes a look at some of March’s offerings that have caught his eye across the wrestling world. It’s an eclectic array of wrestlers on tap, from youngsters like Aran Sano (22) and Callum Newman (23) to veterans Tigers Mask (49) and El Satanico (76), and there’s lots to break down. Plenty of match recs from CMLL’s Homenaje A Dos Leyendas, Osaka Pro, the New Japan Cup, and if you need AEW recs, some of them too! Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: Gold King Ahura – wXw’s 16 Carat champ (130 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by his Oberhausen travel companions Mike Kilby and Snowboiii Josh for over two hours of chat all about the man of the moment, wXw’s 2026 16 Carat Gold Champion – Ahura. Perhaps the most underrated, under-the-radar wrestler on Earth, Ahura put on the performance of a lifetime over three days in the Turbinenhalle and the lads discuss what got him to that point, his strengths as a wrestler, and what his character is all about, and ponder about what the future for the “Gold King” could offer. From his early days in the Pretty Bastards tag team to miracle matches with Tetsuya Naito in front of 1,000 fans, it’s all covered in detail in a show which hopefully is just the beginning of this special talent getting his due in terms of coverage. Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” The Main Event Mafia explodes in 2009 TNA, and a special Sunday morning Superstars before In Your House Final Four (168 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by the one and only Garrett Kidney for the February edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. When you have the world’s foremost TNA historian as the guest, you’re expecting that you’re going to be “Crossing the Line,” and that’s exactly what happened as Garrett offers up his selection from February 19th, 2009 and an episode of Impact which has a lot to talk about, and we mean a lot. An empty arena main event, Beer Money hitting their stride, authority figure org charts, and even some out-of-character personality profiles. Alan and Garrett talk it all with plenty of fun along the way. Thankfully, Alan’s pick wasn’t as intensive a show so this thing could stay under three hours! That’s not to say it wasn’t a fascinating watch. On the morning of In Your House Final Four, there was a special episode of WWF Superstars hosted by Jim Ross and Dok Hendrix recapping Shawn Michaels losing his smile and looking ahead to Bret vs. Austin vs. Undertaker vs. Vader. All the moving parts of early 1997 in the World Wrestling Federation are on show and give us plenty to analyze. Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: What to do about Katsuhiko Nakajima? (135 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by Japanese wrestling expert Gerard DiTrolio as we deep dive into one of the most interesting careers of the modern puro era, and ask the question: What are we to do about Katsuhiko Nakajima? He’s one of the most talented wrestlers of all time, he’s had over two decades competing at a world class level, is somehow still in his ’30s, has no injury history…and yet is seemingly on the outside looking into the world of wrestling in 2026. Alan and Gerard look at what got us to this point, the positives and negatives of Nakajima as a wrestler (and person), the many classic matches, hidden gems that you need to see, and much more. Plus, we try to foresee where things go from here and how he might fare in different environments. Over two hours of great chat and interesting analysis. Check it out! Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” Chaos amidst the Horsemen on the first Nitro of ’97, and Bert Prentice presents the Nashville Fairgrounds in ’99 for NWA Worldwide (144 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by expert in all things WCW, Tom Green, for the January edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. It’s a double bill of the late ’90s this time around, as we go to WCW Monday Nitro on January 6th, 1997, and the Nashville Fairgrounds for Bert Prentice’s NWA Worldwide in 1999. Two very different shows which operate with an entirely different pace and, as expected, have quite a contrast in polish. That said, this Nitro has its fair share of messy situations from The Horsemen all asunder thanks to the amazing Queen Debra in a classic segment to Psychosis not quite knowing how to do an Arabian Press (but points for trying). Alan and Tom take you through the whole show and everything going on in the build-up to nWo’s Souled Out PPV. Before that, Tom gives us all a lesson on the wild character that was “Honey Love” as we see what Mr. Nashville Wrestling was getting up to in ’99 with a roster that…well, let’s just say it lacked depth. Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise – Christmas Party, Pt. 3: Justin Shapiro and the letter W – Walter, Willow, Wade K., Wade B., Will, WHAT?, and Wrestling! (117 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L closes out the 2025 Christmas Party with our pal Justin Shapiro for his annual rundown of the wrestling dictionary. This year it’s the letter W, and maybe the last year where we’re not really stretching to find things (look forward to a lot of Z-Man talk in 2028, guys). Alan and Justin have loads of options for W, and they took full advantage with a show spanning wrestling far and wide. The Alan4L Wrestling Promotion Game Show (take that, Joe Gagne) returned for the second year running, the careers of big names of the present (Walter and Will) and past (Wildman Marc Mero) are reflected on, annoying jokes about WHO? WHAT? and some wrestlers are grouped together in the trashiest way possible. All in good fun and for your listening pleasure this Christmas! SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by the great Joe Gagne for the traditional Joe Gagne Christmas Draft! Yes indeed, we have Rich Kraetsch and Joe Lanza of “Voices of Wrestling” in tow as always, and this year there is no time machine required as we look to the modern Japanese men’s wrestling scene for our draft board. From your big names in New Japan to your Yapper Men of choice, the selection process is intense, but usually everyone is still on good terms afterwards. Is that the case this year? Listen to find out. Also, our drafters are challenged with putting their cards together at the end of the show, and you the listener can pick the winner. The ProWres Paradise festive season rolls on! Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise – Christmas Party, Pt. 1: “What’s on the Telly?” Live from the Dr. Keith Christmas Mansion – A double dose of Turner television from good times (1985) and bad (1999) (94 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L welcomes everyone to the 2025 ProWres Paradise Christmas Party, and is joined by the legendary Dr. Keith Lipinski (his podcast Dad) for the December edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. If there was a naughty and nice list for wrestling TV shows, it would be very easy to categorize these two offerings. If ever you wanted an example that 1985 Crockett and 1999 WCW were two very different pro wrestling companies, this is it. As New Year’s approached on TBS in ’85, fans were treated to a lovely show filled with elite level promos, timeless characters, and two incredible matches pitting Ole Anderson vs. Magnum T.A., and Ric Flair against Ron Garvin. Fast forward to TNT in ’99 and viewers were punished with something that spent three hours vomiting all over the legacy of pro wrestling – a truly abhorrent show, but thankfully one that was ideal to talk to Dr. Keith about. So fetch yourself a mince pie, pour your Christmas drink of choice, and huddle up by the fire as we check out what’s on the telly one last time in 2025! DIRECT LINK: VIP AUDIO LINK NOT VIP? Dragongate, CMLL, All Japan, New Japan, ROH, and AEW are all discussed as Alan goes through some of the matches you need to see, and the wrestlers that have been delivering the goods. King of Gate coming to a head with a tremendous finale, Yuto Ice making a play for being NJPW’s savior, Lee Moriarty having the match of his life, a surprising rudo act steals the show in Arena Mexico and the promos that have been lighting up the Continental Classic outside the ring. Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” The culture shock of 2003 Raw, and a showdown for the ages on an early AEW Rampage – Evolution, Trish & Jericho love story, Kingston, Punk, Danielson, more (148 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by Andrew Rich for the November edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. This month we go back to 2003 and experience the often jarring WWE product of the time with the go home Raw before that year’s Survivor Series. Authority figures colliding, a heel stable running roughshod, women being abused, and a bunch of short matches – it had all the tropes, but was it actually good? Andrew and Alan let you know. Then with our other pick, it’s time to go into the AEW vault for the first time in a series and a very impactful episode of Rampage from 2021 thanks to one particularly hostile segment which is amazing to watch four years later. Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: Eddie Guerrero Special featuring Case Lowe (127 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by Case Lowe to talk some Eddie Guerrero! There will probably be a lot of Eddie talk this month, with the 20 year anniversary of his passing, and with that in mind this show takes the road less traveled and discusses Eddie through the prism of four matches, most of which are very much under the radar. Alan and Case dig through the Guerrero crates and pull out matches featuring the likes of B. Brian Blair, Tatsumi Fujinami, Fuerza Guerrera, and some guy called Dwayne. Using these matches, the guys highlight some of Eddie’s lesser talked about skills and qualities that made him such a world class wrestler. This isn’t just match recaps, though, as there’s a branch-off to a deeper discussion of modern wrestling and its relationship with Eddie, cultural shifts affecting the business, and a bonus surprise segment for Case where we spotlight one of the rising stars of Dragongate – Ryoya Tanaka. Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” Tuning into Gaora and The Wrestling Channel (in a way) for some 2011 Dragon Gate and 2005 CZW – Mochizuki, Brodie Lee, Steen, Kingston, and of course Zandig (141 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by Jesse Collings for the October edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. This month we got our satellite out to tune into Gaora and watch a Dragon Gate Infinity from arguably the company’s best year – 2011. It’s Masaaki Mochizuki vs. Akira Tozawa for the Dream Gate, and Shingo Takagi vs. Brodie Lee as we’re in the thick of the Blood Warriors vs. Junction 3 feud. From there, the clock is turned back a further six years to 2005 and we stretch the rules of the show a tiny bit to talk about CZW from the “CZW” Arena and also from a weird junkyard as we are truly treated to the good, the bad, and the ugly of mid-2000s indy wrestling. Young Steen and Generico, Eddie Kingston promos, death matches, and lots of terrible gear. So open the gate, enter the combat zone, and check out what’s on the telly with us this month! Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: New Japan and Noah venture to Sumo Hall, WrestleDream, FSM 50, and why April 27, 1987 might be the greatest day in wrestling history (78 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L compares and contrasts the recent big shows in Sumo Hall presented by New Japan and Pro Wrestling Noah featuring a few excellent matches, title changes, interesting (questionable) booking, and some rising stars amidst the usual frustrations that both companies offer. The shows provided a great opportunity to see where the two promotions stand against each other, and we took advantage of it – including an impromptu wrestler draft! From there, Alan gives his analysis on AEW’s tremendous WrestleDream event and how that has formed his initial FSM 50 thoughts. Who are the front runners for the wrestler of the year? Listen and find out! Plus, we go back to April 27, 1987 and what might well be the greatest day in wrestling history as fans in Memphis, Tokyo, and Osaka were treated to some incredible scenes from the likes of Inoki, Lawler, Nagayo, Dump, and more. Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: Dragongate state of the union, highs and lows of NJPW, and a great angle in 1987 NWA (71 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L talks Dragongate and New Japan, bringing you up to speed on both promotions’ Korakuen Hall offerings this week. With NJPW constantly frustrating its fans, there’s a lot of lessons they could learn from their friends in DG who are rewarding their faithful with a really well tuned product right now. Alan gives his best pitch on why DG is the perfect promotion to get in on right now for newer fans, and looks at what was a great show headlined by Madoka Kikuta defending his Open the Dream Gate against Ben-K. Following that, the spotlight goes to NJPW, looking at the highs and deep, deep lows of NJPW’s show, plus a preview for King of Pro Wrestling next week in Sumo Hall. After all that we have a trip to the vault to talk Ole Anderson leaving The Horsemen! Check it out. DIRECT LINK: VIP AUDIO LINK NOT VIP? Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: Celebrating the career of Tito Santana with Joe Gagne (127 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by the great Joe Gagne for the biggest and best edition of the “Don’t You Forget About Me” series yet. To older fans, it might seem implausible that the wrestling world would ever “forget” a career like Tito Santana’s, but as time moves on there is a danger that we may lose sight of just what a fantastic wrestler he was and how deep his portfolio of work is. Alan and Joe do their part to put the spotlight back on Tito with a comprehensive look at everything he did from his debut in the late ’70s to the tail end of his national run as El Matador in the WWF. There’s no shortage of great matches to discuss when it comes to the man from Mission, Texas. From his feuds with Greg Valentine and Randy Savage to his work as a tag team with Rick Martel, it’s all covered here, plus plenty more. Check it out! DIRECT LINK: VIP AUDIO LINK NOT VIP? Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” WWF Raw brings us “Championship Friday” from 1996 and five years on, a look at wXw’s attempt at episodic wrestling during pandemic. HBK vs. Goldust, a Disco Brawl, a Dog Collar match, more (103 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by European wrestling expert Ian Hamilton for the September edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. This month we check in on a transition period for the WWF in 1996 and a transition period for the whole of society in 2020! With one foot still in the “New Generation,” Raw was beginning to move to “the Attitude Era” on a show deemed “Championship Friday” with a WWF title defense for Shawn Michaels against Goldust and multiple bouts in an Intercontinental title tournament. Plus, Jim Ross and Brian Pillman have scoops, Sid faces a unique challenge, Ahmed Johnson on the shelf, and more. From there, we tentatively open up the archives to 2020 (shudder) and look back at a tough time for us all and a challenging time for people trying to produce wrestling television. We look at how wXw approached their episodic Shotgun program, focusing on Season 2 Episode 4 with wacky skits aplenty and some interesting matches. VIP PODCAST 9/14 – Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: Review of AEW’s residency at 2300 Arena including Garcia’s turn, Hangman vs. Kyle, FTR greatness, the Toni Storm effect, more (77 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L goes in-depth on AEW’s latest residency, and their first time venturing to the former ECW Arena in South Philadelphia. This was a run of TV that really got AEW on track headed into All Out in Toronto, and they set their stall out in a number of areas utilizing a core group of wrestlers really well. We look at what worked, why it worked, and who has gained momentum coming off this residency. The new title programs, heel turns, some tremendous trios and atomicos TV matches, side feuds, and much more. There was a lot to discuss and no stone is left unturned. VIP PODCAST 9/1 – Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: Career profile of “The Phoenix” Jody Fleisch, plus recent recommendations from CMLL, Noah, and DDT (95 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is dusting off the “Don’t You Forget About Me” series for its third edition in 2025. This time, the spotlight is shining on “The Phoenix” Jody Fleisch – one of the most innovative and spectacular junior heavyweights in the world during the early 2000s. We look at his breakthrough bouts in the U.S. during the summer of ’02, his importance to the UK scene, and his lesser known work in Japan for Michinoku Pro, where he mixed it up with some of the greatest of all time. It wasn’t just his high flying that made Jody special, and Alan examines everything else he brought to the table and looks back at how impactful Fleisch was to a new wave of wrestling fans at the time. All of that, plus we finish with some recent recommendations from 2025 featuring a big DDT title match, CMLL catch-up, and a couple of slugfests in NOAH. Check it out! VIP PODCAST 8/18 – Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” 1986 Crockett and 1993 Smoky Mountain including Magnum, Horsemen, Armstrongs, Candido, more (122 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by Kieron Lefort for the August edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. As Bob Caudle would say, we’ve got some professional wrestling “the way it used to be, and the way you like it!” as we go back to 1986 Crockett and 1993 Smokey Mountain for two excellent shows. Two months before tragedy struck Magnum T.A., he was in the midst of his legendary Best of Seven series with Nikita Koloff, and this episode of Worldwide gives us perhaps the best of the bunch. Also, a big week in the lives of Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair is covered, along with a heated angle featuring Babydoll and Big Bubba Rogers. Skipping forward seven years to SMW, we see Big Bubba again, only this time as the much more experienced Big Bossman. He’s getting set for a big role on some major shows in the Cornette territory, with the Armstrongs, Tracy Smothers, and the like all fired up! If you’re a fan of wacky skits, you’re in luck, as we’ve got a breakdown of Bullet Bob in “The Jungles of South America.” Sit back, relax, and check out what’s on the telly with us this month! VIP PODCAST 7/27 – Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” 1993 WCW and 2009 ROH try their hand at mastering the art of the TV trios match, plus mini-movies, Brodie Lee, very young Young Bucks, more (149 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by Trevor Dame of ThROH the Years for the July edition of “What’s on the Telly?” as we continue our love affair with La Familia de Cubsfan! In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. This month we have two shows which really tied together nicely for comparison purposes, specifically with their main events. The top stars of 1993 WCW and 2009 Ring of Honor put forth their best attempts at the classic television trios match, and you’ll get an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of both. WCW Saturday Night also gave us plenty to shake our heads at with some of the most ridiculous content of the era (mini-movies, amnesia angles, fake reporters, and Ric Flair doing his best Johnny Carson). Meanwhile, ROH on HDNet had its own struggles of a different variety, but also showed just how much talent the company had at its disposal. Trevor and Alan break it all down over the course of two and a half hours! Relax in your favorite chair, get a nice icy beverage, and check out what’s on the telly with us this month! VIP PODCAST 7/1 – Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” Can Jimmy Hart be trusted in 1984 Memphis? Who is the Higher Power on 1999 Raw? (197 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by the great Matt Feuerstein of ThROH The Years for the June edition (a day late but no dollars short!) of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. We’re answering questions this month on the show, as it’s the height of Vince Russo’s WWF run, and we find out who the Higher Power is on the June 7th, 1999 episode of Raw. Or is that the “Greater” Power? Listen to find out. Also on this show – not a lot of wrestling, some genuinely good promos, some terrible segments, and all the rest you’d expect from an “Attitude Era” edition of WWF’s flagship product. Our trip to 1984 Memphis delivers some booking that’s a little more logical, thankfully, and Alan and Matt are treated to two captivating stories running through the June 2nd offering from WMC studios. Lawler, Hart, Gilbert, Russell, and plenty of your other Memphis faves are all in tow, including “a real refreshing tag team!” Over three hours of fun (and hopefully insightful) discussion, so clear your schedule and check out what’s on the telly with us this month! SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is once again joined by Josh/snowboiiii after two hours of great 2005 Japan talk, to move onto the rest of the world during that influential and exciting year. In this part, the lads talk extensively about Ring of Honor and how it feels to watch it now with 2025 eyes. What holds up better than expected and what’s not as good as it was at the time? From there, it’s a look at the healthy competition ROH had from the “SMV Three” of CZW, IWA Mid-South, and Chikara, and a breakdown of the strengths and weaknesses of that promotional triumvirate. Of course time was carved out for WWE which brought some distressing memories along with some fun ones as they had one of their most notable years of the decade with the ECW reunion, the pushes of Cena and Batista, Eddie vs. Rey, “Angelic Diablo” Matt Hardy, and more! SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L celebrates the milestone of episode 300 with the first of two shows looking at the year 2005 in pro wrestling, 20 years on. To do this, there is absolutely nobody more qualified to join in than first time guest on the show – our pal Josh (or as some may know him – snowboiiii) who has completed a project on his very popular Twitch channel watching every single match that we have footage of from that year. 2005 offered so much variety across the wrestling world, and was so influential for what was to come. In part 1, Alan and Josh focus on the amazing Japanese scene at the time with a thriving Pro Wrestling Noah, a struggling New Japan, a rising Dragon Gate and a Matsunaga that needed to be stopped in Zero1-Max. Plus a look at tough times in the world of Joshi, the traveling Kensuke Family, and much more as the lads talk about some of the classic matches of the year, hidden gems and MVPs. VIP AUDIO 5/29 – Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise: “What’s on the Telly?” Triple H tears his quad and the “stars” of NXT Redemption try to save their show – 2001 and 2012 WWF/WWE present two very different shows (156 min.)
SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by our best pal Justin Shapiro for the May edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. When it comes to WWF television in the month of May, you’ll find very few runs quite like we had in the second half of May 2001. The winds of change were swirling and a trip to San Jose gives us a Raw best remembered for a certain person tearing their quad during one of the most exciting Raw matches ever to that point. Alan and Justin talk all about “The Two Man Power Trip” vs. “The Two Canadian Workrate Express,” but there was plenty more to dig into on the episode – as there was for the final edition of NXT Redemption in May 2012. SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)... SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by renowned lucha libre expert TheCubsFan as we get him (somewhat) out of his wheelhouse for the April edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. We don’t have Cubs talking about any shows that happened in Mexico, but we do have him talking about one of Mexican wrestling’s most interesting exports – Lucha Underground.
