Recovery, Resilience, Revival
LMFT, Delena Zimmerman, and I clearly laugh to keep from crying. Delana is brave enough to tell her truth and what she calls, Recovery, Resilience, and Revival. She shares her journey to Revival despite being victimized as a child and becoming drug addict. I clearly was not ready for this interview and do not always channel my inner Oprah or Tamron Hall. However, I am awed by Delana's ability to become a therapist and help others and the level of forgiveness that she displays. Listen to what happens to children, who are left to raise themselves. Trigger warning: This episode includes discussion of rape and child abuse. Please also note that this is part 1 of a 2 part series. Black Women for Wellness LA - Reproductive Justice: Womb to Tomb
I am rarely at a loss for words, but I say very little during this enlightening conversation with Black Women for Wellness LA (BWWLA) Executive Director, Janette Robinson Flint. BWWLA is focused on Reproductive Justice for Black Women and Girls in California. Janette shares the totality of those things that impact reproductive health from Womb to Tomb, including environmental issues, affordable housing, and of course birth control. Janette and I chop it up about the ways that BWWLA is addressing these challenges and how their volunteers, the “Fierce Aunties”, are supporting this much needed work. Go Talk to Some Damn GenZ Kids
Don’t buy the hype that Gen Z is “delulu”. Talking to Gen Z always leaves me feeling hopeful and excited! In the second episode of my series, What Surprised You About Adulthood, I talk to 22 year old Alexis Jones. Alexis will make you feel like the world is going to be ok, when she shares how she has just graduated from college, debt-free, is working in her dream industry, and is living on her own and paying her own rent. Whether you are Gen Z or have friends and family that are, listen and prepare to be inspired. Go Get Yourself Some Damn Girlfriends
This episode is pure love. In honor of National Girlfriend’s Day, which was August 1st, I had the privilege of sitting down with 3 of my besties to talk about the power of friendship. Getting together in our pajamas, in my living room, with alcohol and a camera, led to some hysterical moments, moments of candor, and just a whole heck of a lot of fun. What Surprised You About Adulthood?
I heard Tabitha Brown and husband, Chance, ask their daughter, Choyce, about adulthood and it reminded me of a topic that had been on my list since I began podcasting over a year ago. So, I sat down with two GenZ young women and asked: “What Surprised you About Adulthood”. Kayln Geer and Taria Ray surprised me with their answers. I was impressed by the tools that they have implemented to navigate adult life, but surprised about how much their generation is concerned about the impact of politics. Note: This episode was recorded before President Joe Biden stepped down and endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic Presidential candidate. Are Men and Women at War....With Each Other
This AT&L episode is a repost, but demonstrates how good the topics and guests are and how much the pod has grown. I chose to repost it because I continue to see what looks like competition amongst the sexes, particularly Black men and women. Listen to the conversation that I share with Alex Jacke, single millennial singer, songwriter and actor from the hot and steamy show, A la Carte and Gen X, Guest in Residence, Tenisha Tate-Austin, Founder and CEO of Critical Friends Consulting. Tenisha shares the perspectives of a suburban, married and professional mother, while Alex, a single male, working in the entertainment industry, highlights the views of that demo and, well, Auntie is sharing her wisdom and learning. A Traditional Family
This is a noisy, powerful episode. In honor of Pride Month, I talked to two married moms, Noelle and Reni Belle, about how they created their family. While gay marriage has only been legal between 11 and 13 years and conservatives will still attempt to paint gay relationships as abnormal, Reni and Noelle exemplify the traditional family. These two gay, college-educated, professional, married women are raising their son, Rocco, in a two parent home. While Rocco plays in the background, watch and tune in while we discuss the couple’s relationship and how they built their beautiful family.Send me your thoughts, feedback and interest in becoming a sponsor to:Contact Information Email: [email protected] IG: @Auntie Talks and Listens

Making Friends as Adults
While this is a serious subject, prepare to fall over laughing. Making friends as an adult has never been more important. In 2023, the US Surgeon General, Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy, not only indicated that America’s loneliness issue had reached epidemic proportion, he also declared suffering from loneliness increases our risk of the following by:•Heart Disease 29% •Stroke 32% •Dementia 50% •Premature Death More Than 60%Well, my new friend, Kristen Grannan, and I chop it up about how to make friends as adults and the fun involved, including trash-talking, setting goals, getting tipsy and more.Contact Info:Kristen Grannan: Raw Female Podcast on Apple Podcast. Do You Wish You Had Taken More Risks
In my continued efforts to better understand how much we are alike and when we are different, why, I have asked these 2 questions of a couple of folks:What do you wish you had done 10 years ago and What are your plans for the next 10In this episode, I talk to singer, song-writer, actor, and Auntie Talks and Listens’ Editor, Alex Jacke. Auntie Gets Schooled - Tradwives
According to my guests, two young UC Riverside sophomores, the algorithm fooled me. I asked these two young women, Symil Austin and Dinella Godage, to chat with me about what I am seeing all over IG and Tik Tok, “The Soft Life” and “Tradwives”. For those of you who are not familiar with these lifestyles, both are being promoted by Gen Z and Millennial Men and Women. Symil, Dinella and I primarily talked about Tradwives, who are young women who are choosing, regardless of education, to live a more traditional lifestyle. Their husbands are the bread-winners and leaders of the home. The IG and Tik Tok Tradwives stay at home to pamper their husbands, frolic in the garden, while wearing floral print, boob accentuating, ultra-feminine outfits, making croissants and homemade bubble gum, all with a full face of make-up (See Norah Smith and Estee Williams on Tik Tok) . I went into the conversation, being very judgmental about this lifestyle and concerned about these women giving up so much of what women before them have fought for, including career opportunities and autonomy. While my guests, personally do not subscribe to this, they emphasized how much Gen Z promotes life-style “choice” and how much they speak in superlatives that they don’t necessarily mean. They made me see the importance of everyone choosing the lifestyle that makes them happy and told me not to worry. Some of these posts are just Gen Z getting a rise out of old folks. Are or Were you Friends with your Minor Children
This is a fun episode! Thinking about Mother’s Day, I sat down with my millennial, new podcast buddy, Kristen Grannan - Host of Raw Female, and AT&L GenX Guest-in-Residence, Tenisha Tate Austin, CEO of Critical Friends Consulting . We initially planned to discuss "Are or Were you Friends with your Minor Children" but chatted about so much more. We spent so much time cracking-up about mistakes we made as parents. Control Your Destiny Despite Racism
Unsubcribe to anything, Tik Tok, Instagram, etc. that tells you life is going to be harder, because you are Black! You already know that racism is still a problem. In this episode, Auntie flies solo for the first time on the pod. No guests, just me behind the mic sharing my wisdom. Listen on your favorite podcast application or watch on YouTube to hear the strategies and tools that I used to build a successful career in corporate America, where I earned multiple 6 figures and felt in control of my upward mobility while being a Black female.Send me your thoughts, feedback and interest in becoming a sponsor to:Contact Information Email: [email protected] IG: @Auntie Talks and Listens

Two Questions: A White Roman Catholic Youth Minister and a Black Spiritual Californian Talk
Just back from my first podcast conference, Evolution, which forced me to hone my elevator speech and one of the primary reasons why I host Auntie Talks and Listens. In these very divisive times, I want to talk to folks from various backgrounds to highlight how much we are alike and, where we are different, why. In this episode, I talk to Carrie Carroll, a mid-west, millennial, white woman, who is a Roman Catholic Youth Minister. I am a Black woman, a native Californian, a Baby Boomer, who describes herself as spiritual and not religious and I have been divorced almost as long as Carrie has been married. Yet, this episode highlights how much more she and I alike are than different. Talking to a Boss
My initial plan was to interview several folks from different backgrounds, races, geographical locations, age, etc and to ask: What do you wish you had done 10 years ago and what are your plans for the next 10. In part one of this series, I talk to my former boss, Baby Boomer, Kim Baker, former Healthcare Executive, partner, mother and grandmother. The Benefits and Challenges of Black Young Men Being Educated in All White Institutions
In Honor of Black History Month, I wanted to talk about the importance of education to the Black Community, but with a bit of nuance. In this episode, I talk to millennial NBA Sports Agent, Co-Founder of Move in Soles, and husband, Nate Tijion Jones. We chat about his experience as an African American male, matriculating through all white institutions, including Beverly Hills High, USC and UCLA Law, all in an effort to secure the best education and opportunities possible. We cover everything, from the quality of the education, to the cultural and socio-economics differences, and the challenges with dating. A Love Story
Please listen to this is a Love Story. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, I talk to Beverly Lofton, married 43 years to James Lofton, former Green Bay Packer, LA Raider, Buffalo Bill and 2003 NFL Hall of Famer. Beverly shares: Her love language, the importance of words of affirmation, the importance of a village, how she got a proposal in 21 days and how she became a secure “stadium person” after having been a news reporter and pharmaceutical professional and while raising millions of dollars for charity. Are Men and Women at War....With Each Other

Is this impacting all races and ethnicities or is it more prevalent in the Black community?
