Season 2 Episode 12: Sex And the State Of The World

Send us Fan MailIn this episode I first have to apologise as I get on my soapbox and a little fired up talking about this. This episode might resonate more with the women in this audience but its definitely for the guys too.I talk about how yoga in the west has been seriously sexualised, through fashion, pop-culture, branding and marketing, morphing it into something with far less than the respect and gravitas it deserves. I also talk about how vital it is more than EVER for us all to be starting a serious practice. I promise I dont talk poilitics and I only use the "T" word (Trump) once.If you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you. Please feel free to message me on Instagram or email me here: [email protected] can follow me on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/shraddhaya_yoga/Or why not find out how we can work together with Yoga & meditation classes, courses and 1:1 coaching here: https://www.shraddhayayoga.co.uk/With love and light,Helen xxx

Season 2 Episode 9: Explaining The Holistic And Healing powers of Ayurveda & Functional Medicine with Garima Pandey

Send us Fan MailIn this episode I get to have a lovely conversation with my friend and Ayurvedic Doctor Garima Pandey, all about Ayurveda and functional medicine and how a blend of the two is such a powerful combination in terms of holistic health. Garima was recommended to me by a friend on my first trip to India in 2020. I was struggling hard in an abusive relationship and my IBS on that trip hit new levels of debilitation and left me curled up in severe pain in my hotel room with friends bringing me plain boiled rice and bananas for several days.Meeting Garima changed my life. She taught me all about holistic Ayurvedic medicine and root cause medicine. Her soft and caring manner made me feel so seen and heard and her approach was nurturing and nourishing. I will always be so grateful to her for ending my cycle of severe stomach cramps and chronic diarrohea that heightened my anxiety, left me feeling helpless, depressed and isolated and left my body severely depleted and run down. It also left me with a negative relationship with a body that I couldnt understand and was angry with for letting me down.Garima is an incredible woman, and a wealth of wisdom and knowledge blending ancient and modern medicine together in a perfect synergy. If you are struggling with a health concern and have tried everything else, Garima is the person you need to contact. (please see below)I hope you enjoy this first of many conversations with beautiful Garima. You can contact Garima and find out more about the amazing services she offers here:  https://shriasha.co.uk/Or here: Email: [email protected] you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Episode 8: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once: The Infinite Possibility Of You

Send us Fan MailHi everyone, in this episode I share my musings around the brilliant 2022 Michelle Yeoh film: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. It ties in so beautifully with the yogic concepts of self, ego, buddhi and divine love, and brilliantly and weirdly! shows how we can all be trapped by our limiting thoughts, behaviours and self concepts, and how if we are not careful this can turn to darkness. Our power for expansion if we choose to walk towards increasing self awareness and healing, is infinite. I didnt say it was easy, but it is possible.I hope you enjoy the episode. If you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Season 2 Episode 5 Part 3: Exploring The Eight Limbs Of yoga With Katja Patel

Send us Fan MailThis is the final installment in the amazing conversation I had with one of my teachers the lovely Katja Patel. In this last part we look at the final three limbs: Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. These final 4 limbs (incluidng Pratyahara) are all concerned with the mind and stages of meditation withinn your practice. They guide us in how to train the mind to focus, develop our meditation practice and elevate our consciousness to help us move towards Samadhi- oneness, union, enlightenment or a "super conscious" state.Katja and I are not experts but we love to explore these concepts in terms of what they mean for us in the modern world, their practical application and how they can help us in our practice. I really hope you enjoy the episode. Please note that Katja's sound qulaity is a bit off in this one so please bear with us. Episode 5 Part 2: The Eight Limbs Of Yoga With Katja Patel

Send us Fan MailIn this second part of my lovely conversation with Katja, we continue looking at the Eight Limbs of Yoga. We continue to discuss our interpretations of what they mean and how we can  apply them to our practice and modern, everyday life.We begin our conversation with a brief look at Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, and I reference my copy which is translated and commentaried by Swami Satchidananda. Please see the link below.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yoga-Sutras-Patanjali-Swami-Satchidananda/dp/1938477073We then have a recap of the first 3 limbs we discussed in Part 1: Yama & Niyama, Asana, Pranayama,  and then we fturn our focus back on Pratyahara the 4th Limb. Its a conversation full of what the key parts of a full yoga practice are and how they are still as powerful and relevant today to our holistic health, and development of our consciousness today as they have ever been. Episode 5 Part 1: Exploring The Eight limbs of Yoga With Katja Patel

Send us Fan MailIn this episode I'm joined again by my lovely Yoga teacher Katja Patel to begin exploring The Eight Limbs of Yoga. We thought we might be able to summarise each of the limbs within one episode but we definitely bit off more than we could chew here, and once we got going we found ourselves diving deeply into the many layers, meanings, practical applications and interpretations of each of the limbs. The Eight Limbs were recorded in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras as a systematised approach to a yoga practice and they describe each of the interrelating and enmeshed "brances" of Hatha Yoga. Each branch or limb is part of a holistic system so one should not be practiced without the others in some form.If you missed my first conversation with the lovely Katja where I introduce her and all her incredible knowledge and share her contact details in the shownotes you can listen here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3j3PdKyA0fCLl7ssAPS8CW?si=X97QbT-sRiO55NcfYY3XoAIfyou also missed the episode on the Yamas & Niyamas the first two limbs, its worth taking a listen here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0OzBN9kWyvbpkLJMO1dwxZ?si=7HxV69iqRk-ykfezcbOSQgIf you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Episode 4: A Conversation On Death & Loss

Send us Fan MailIn this sensitive epiosde I talk about a subject that I feel is still pretty taboo in our western culture. With or without the framework of religion, many people in our society are afraid to talk about death and will go out of their way to avoid it. Whilst other cultures around the world openly accept death as an integral part of lifes miraculous cycle, and in so doing create more community and support for those that are dying and grieving. I talk all around this issues and expplore how our yoga practice can help us grieve, create community and perhaps begin to shift our perpectives of life and death and the material world versus the spiritual world. In this episode I mentioned this amazing Ram Dass Podcast-you can listen here:https://open.spotify.com/episode/6xzDDgZapWfakKIHW4vXMVI alos spoke about the Bhakti Yogi and Death Doula Matt, you can find him here on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/madhumatt/ He also does his own podcast on death which is beautiful-you can find this on his profile. If you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Episode 3: What Does It Mean To Retreat?

Send us Fan MailHaving just been on a recent Shamanic retreat, and thinking about what that really means to go on retreat, I spend this episode exploring what a retreat is and what it can offer us in terms of experience and introspection, community and self expression. I also ask the question: "Do we really need to spend thousands of pounds flying half way around the world to retreat or can we create an effective retreat space right here at home?"I hope you enjoy. If you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Epiosde 2: The Yamas & Niyamas: A Beautiful Code To Live By

Send us Fan MailIn this episode I look at one of the 8 limbs or integral parts of a yoga practice that is often overlooked: The Yamas and Niyamas. These beautiful codes of conduct were talked about by Patanjali some 5 or 6 thousand years ago and are as relevant today as they have ever been.I love how practical and accessible they are and how all of us can start implementing them straight away. They really are a beautiful code to live by and become a better human being.I reference my favourite yoga book throughout this episode: The heart Of YogaDeveloping A Personal Practice by T.K.V Desikachar.I hope you enjoy the episode. With love and light,Helen xxxIf you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Season 2 Episode 1: From Ego & Ambition To Acceptance & Surrender

Send us Fan MailHello everyone, Im super happy to be back with a new season of the podcast. Today Im talking about how ego and ambition can show up for all of us in our practice and how to move away from the ego towards a practice of self acceptance, self love and surrender.  This of course is not easy and I talk about how, with time, yoga can really begin to highlight for each of us the nature of our own internal negative narratives and how we can begin to change these through the practice of self acceptance, non-judgment and self love. Its a lifetimes work but the benefits are miraculous.Wishing you love and light,Helen xIf you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Episode 14: A Conversation With My First Guest & Yoga Teacher Trainer Katja Patel

Send us Fan MailIn this lovely first conversation with my amazing yoga teacher trainer Katja, we talk about what bought Katja onto the yogic path, being human as a yoga teacher, religion versus spirituality, discipline in our yoga practice and how trust and faith in the practice and process is a vital part of the journey. We also talk about how we are sent the right teachers at the right time, how self-doubt, a lack of self-worth and inertia can limit us all, and how we can use the practice to take us over the line into action and back into a state of balance and greater self-belief.Katja Patel has been practising Hatha yoga for over 30 years and teaching for 25 years. She has a wealth of knowledge in Ayurveda, yogic philosophy and anatomy. I had the great honour of being her student and now I can happily call her a dear friend. Send us Fan MailIn this episode I dive into the basics of how the nervous sytsem works in the body. I explain how the fight or flight stress response works and why its there, and how it is an essential part of our bodies innate ancient wisdom and survival system. I look at how when this system is switched on too much, and the body is in a chronic state of stress it can become disastrously detrimental to your health. Episode 11: 10 minute Guided Mantra Meditation: Aham Brahmasmi

Send us Fan MailIn this episode I guide you through a lovely mantra based meditation practice."Aham Brahmasmi" basicaly translates as "I am the universe" " Or I am universal consciousness."This mantra comes from the Advaita Vedanta tradition, and is one of four important mantras from the Mahavakyas within the ancient scriptures of the Upanishads. Without getting too academic, you can think of Brahman as the ultimate universal consciousness, and the Atman or seer as the self. This mantra is an invitation to explore the concept that both Brahman and Atman are one and the same. Its a beautiful and scared exclamation of your oneness with everything, whatever that might mean for you.I really hope you enjoy this guided meditation, so sit back, get comfortable and lets begin. If you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Episode 9: Meditation As a Portal To The Self: How Meditation is The Ultimate Tool To Get To Know Yourself Better, Begin To Heal and Change Your World

Send us Fan MailIn this episode we take another look at the benefits of meditation, specifically looking at meditation as an incredibly powerful tool to help open the door to self enquiry, which is the first step towards greater self knowledge, self awareness and healing. When we can take this first brave step towards getting to know ourselves better, we can begin to understand that we are not our thoughts, or emotions and that they do not define who we are. We can tap into the "true self" within, which is a powerful source of peace and wisdom. The implications on this shift in perspective can have an amazingly powerful impact not just on how we view and conduct ourselves, but also on our relationships, communities and the wider world around us. If you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Episode 4: Yoga As An Act Of Courage

Send us Fan MailIn this episode I'm exploring why I think Yoga is a true act of courage: how it strips away anything false and inauthentic and lays bare the truth of who you really are.I talk about my own experiences along the path and practices that have helped open my heart and let the truth be unveiled.Ill also be talking about the 6 common barriers to our practice that we can all experience from time to time, and how to overcome them.I reference the very brilliant Ram Dass Be Here Now Podcast- it is well worth a listen:https://open.spotify.com/episode/3qUkpFOg5tGvBI3IJ0kX4j?si=oqKnk8W2RRaJYGHOLTSzFwIf you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you. Please feel free to message me on Instagram or email me here: [email protected] can follow me on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/feettoearthyoga/?hl=enOr why not find out how we can work together with classes classes, courses and 1:1 coaching here: https://www.feettoearthyoga.co.uk/With love and light,Helen xxxIf you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

    Episode 3: What Is Yoga?

Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I take a brief look at what yoga is-and what it is not. I have often been asked what Yoga is, and how it differs from Pilates. If I had a pound for every time... Although this is a MASSIVE subject, and like most esoteric and metaphysical modalities it is incrediby diffcult to define, in this short episode I attempt to outline what for me is the clearest definition of yoga I can give at this stage in my spiritual journey, drawing from my own study with various teachers and personal experience. I touch on how it differs from Pilates, what the main purpose of Yoga practices are, advanced asana practice and why its not entirely necessary and so much more. Recording this episode has opened up many wider questions and my views may be controversial for some. As always my intention here is to share and learn in a non-judgmental space. If you'd like to contact me with your views on this episode and ideas of what you'd like to hear more about I'd love to hear from you. Please feel free to message me on Instagram or email me here: [email protected] can follow me on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/feettoearthyoga/?hl=enOr why not find out how we can work together with classes classes, courses and 1:1 coaching here: https://www.feettoearthyoga.co.uk/If you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.

Episode 2: The Power Of Intention

Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I explore the power of intention, both in our yoga practice and in the rest of our lives. I explain why setting an intention at the beginning of your yoga practice can be so powerful and impactful. I also talk about the law of attraction, the ripple affect of our behaviour and energy to those around us and ourselves, and how being intentional with all that we do leads us to become more self aware and more able to act with kindness and compassion. In this episode I also mention one of my incredible teachers; the amazing Nikki Slade of Free The Inner Voice. With Nikki I am learning traditional Bhakti chanting and how to lead Kirtan. She is an incredible teacher and my Journey with her has been (and continues to be) incredibly healing and therapeutic.  Ill be talking more about my experiences in this part of my practice in later episodes. Nikki does 1:1 sessions and immersive courses all over the UK as well as weekly Kirtan sessions in person and online. You can find all her information and how to work with her here: https://nikkislade.com/And Follow her on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/nikkisladeuk/You can follow me on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/feettoearthyoga/?hl=enOr why not find out how we can work together with classes classes, courses and 1:1 coaching here: https://www.feettoearthyoga.co.uk/I hope you enjoy this episode and please remember to like, share and leave a review. With love,Helen If you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you.
