CHARLIE'S BOY BREAKS THE FRAME! with Justin C. Stauffer

His dad was an alcoholic.A lost sheep. The bad guy. That was the portrait of him painted by the conservative religious (Mennonite) culture that Charlie married into, and which was then framed and hung, as it were, on the wall over his son's childhood. Behold your dad.In his book, Charlie's Boy, Justin travels back through time to his 12th summer, and he meets his dad all over again. Like, who is this guy? Who am I? And he looks this time with a little different eyes. Eyes that aren't afraid to love his dad.Under that kind of look, boy how his dad grows! He becomes a living, breathing, human being no frame could ever hold. Charlie steps out from the pages of the book, steps forth from his frame, a free man.You can find Charlie's Boy here. Look for seller Stauffer and Sons.-Song, in part, inspired by Stay In Your Lane by Courtney Barnett.

Tripping Like a Sovereign Kid with MARYN SPANGLER

Psychedelics are one way to trip, but there are other ways too. Imagination is a portal, I'm a tellin' ya, boo. What are these other worlds beyond the gates of imagination? Who inhabits them? Are they dangerous to visit? These questions are a bit of the ground we traverse on this episode.Maryn Spangler runs an online school for spiritual education and exploration called The Lorian Association, and her Substack is Love Walks Here.Music this episode by, the one and only, Patrick Matey.

    BECOMING MAGIC with Spring Cheng

We all feel stuck at times, am I right? I was just experiencing this a bit ago, matter of fact.I know there’s something different, something more, something new. It’s utterly unique. It’s beautiful and, and wonderful! It’s out there ahead of me in the future somewhere. Much more than that I cannot say. I don’t have the deets on it.What I do have is what I have. My current identity. My habits. Me. What I always do in this situation that I’m stuck in. Plus distraction. Many invitations to distraction. Many which I’ve followed and found myself even stucker!Oh is there any way forward into the new? Into the new next version of me? How do I soften, open, expand? Listening to Spring’s story helps me understand.Indeed, there's a path that is more like a flow. Indeed, there's becoming once I'm letting go.You can find Spring at Resonance Path Institute. And you can sign up to get invited to becoming magic hangouts here. Thanks for being here.

River and Wind: An Introduction to Imagination

Hello, my friends, and welcome to The Radio, where we explore how to live creative and connected. This episode is a journey into the wild, weird, and wonderful. The Imagination. You have one. I have one. The what are they for? That's what we begin to explore. Well, just begin to get a feel for. No real clear answers just yet, alright. Learn from it. Not about it. That's the idea here. So it will take some time. Take a personal approach. Experimentation. Teach a man to imaginate. Teach ourselves. Like we did when we were a kid. What made you who you are?Ok, I'm getting a clearer answer even as we speak. Imagination: a magic portal through which we can travel to encounter and experience what we need to learn and grow.-The lines of song that come between Part One: The River and Part Two: The Wind are from Nick Cave's song, Final Rescue Attempt.

    CHANGING with Hannah and Lydia

(Here comes the upbeat music.) Cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-change-ahging! Hannah emerges from her desert retreat to visit Lydia and I in our rainforest home. (And it melts downward in solemn tones.) It's not easy to be alive. What do we do with our suffering?(Then oh chimes brighten in a smart, spring breeze.) What do YOU think and feel and know about these things?—The Kendrick Lamar song I quote at the beginning, and slightly misquote at the end, is “tv off”. Also, pleased to thank Jay-Z for the line, “No clouds in my stone”.

The Treasury Within the Unified Field of Heaven Consciousness

Once upon a time there was a field. In that field was a meadow. In that meadow played a lamb.In that field there bloomed a forest. In that forest a tiger burned. In that field there grew a city. In that city everyone who ever lived, lived. The sky of that field was the floor of the entire universe.Up there in that sky Bob Dylan put his ear to the ground and listened for a song. Up there in that sky David Lynch daydreamed peacefully while Physicists pounded away beside him with jackhammers. Trying to get through! What's underneath?I took a trail through the woods to a bend in the throat. A ball of light, that was a person, took me from there. To where? To where a bonfire burned in a field under a billion of stars and William Blake and Rumi floated down in parachutes. Flutes and fiddles and drums, and Dryads dancing around the blaze. Ah, there were many that were there! Dawson, the Electro-Magnetician. G.K. Chesterton smoking a cigar. As much as you are willing and wanting, that's where You are. And Christ the Connector walking into the fire, becoming flames in our hearts, as we become friends. Amen.

    The Art of Becoming Art

How is creativity connected to self-development? Put another way, what can making art teach us about becoming art? In this episode, I share a bit of my journey that "began" with stepping through the portal of creativity. By the end, I approach very tender territory. I hope that you can hang in there with me and that you will take courage to walk the path of becoming that is yours alone. As always, thank you for listening.

"I feel like I fell down a deep hole, and I'm just coming up for air." I'm so excited to share this conversation with Spring Cheng. You know and love her, or you will! Thank you for joining us.
