The Journey to 2:18:07 w/ Andrew Ye
We're back with another episode of the Beers and Miles Podcast. On this episode we interview Andrew Ye! Hot off of his 2:18:07 at the Houston Marathon, we chat through his journey to get there. From a 19 minute 5k time trial in 2020 to ripping sub 5 miles down the streets of Houston, Andrew provides us with insight on how he found his footing in this sport and his trials along the way. Andrew is a student of the sport and his seemingly endless pursuit of miles is something incredibly impressive. Beyond that, he's just having fun and not taking himself too serious, and we appreciate that. Now available on all podcast platforms. Want to follow Andrew, give him a follow on Instagram @ayex457. From Setbacks to Triumph: Alex Burks
In Spring of 2021, Alex had a breakthrough performance at the first McKirdy Micro Marathon. He ran 2:16:51, destroying his personal best and running a time that would be under the eventual Olympic Trials qualifying standard of 2:18:00. The problem? The standard window hadn't started. Over the next two years he would take multiple shots at the standard and would come up short on the day. After four attempts at it, he would line up for his last shot this past October, less than two months before the window closed. Alex takes us through his journey, going into detail on his mentality, the adjustments he made, and everything that led to his last shot back at Rockland State Park, back to where it all started those few short years ago. We talk about his build, adjusting to altitude, race day, qualifying for the Olympic Trials, and about his preparations for his next race, the Olympic Trials Marathon this February. And of course we have to end out the podcast as we always do, with off the wall questions. Now available wherever you get your podcasts. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. Have questions for the podcasts, guest recommendations, or topic ideas? Send them to [email protected]. Want to follow Alex? Follow him on Instagram at @alexander.burks. Want to follow Cris? Josh provides us with a refreshing perspective on how to stay positive and ready for the next race despite the bad news. Now available wherever you get your podcasts. We close out part one on a high note, with a special race that got him to start thinking about what was possible. Now available wherever you get your podcasts. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. Carving Your Own Path Ft. TJ Morales
This episode series started with a prompt, “were you a head case or over-obsessed with running in college? Do you have a healthy relationship with it now? Let’s chat about it.” And for our first guest on this series I’m joined by TJ Morales. TJ, a graduate of High Point University was fortunate to have found a knowledgeable and positive community when he began to run in high School and for the early part of college. But what happens when those positive influences are no longer around and you’re left with an environment not conducive to growth in the sport? On this episode TJ takes us through his story of carving his own path in the sport and the barriers and breakthroughs he found. TJ has continued to improvement post college despite an extremely busy life outside of running. I really enjoyed talking to TJ and much of his attitude toward running is something that others can take away as well. Now available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and Anchor. We got package deals, one for ones, and maybe even some extras tossed in to make up for cap space. Beers and Miles: The Elite Files: Ethan Hermann Part 1
This week we're excited to welcome The Oval's Editor in Chief and Philly Runner Track Club's own Ethan Herman to the podcast! Ethan's story is unlike what we typically see from most. While some make the jump to collegiate running following a success high school career, Ethan chose an academic institution without a track and field or cross county program. While this would typically mark the end of competitive running for most, Ethan found a home with the Philly Runner Track Club and has since reached new heights making him someone to watch for on any starting line he is on. Part one focuses on his roots, how Ethan started running and his journey into Philly Runner. Holiday Madness Bono-Episode
We have a bonus episode for you folks during this Christmas break (don't tell anyone, Cris never got you anything...). We have a round table before we all went on holiday with special guests, Josh, Breydon, Gunner the Dog, and an unhinged Derek 3 days deep into his Bicentennial attempt. We got a lot of talking over each other so bare with us, it's a bonus episode anyways, but boy do we have a lot of zingers. We talk about running stuff because this is a running podcast I think? Breydon talks about his Trial of Miles experience, Derek talks about his Bicentennial attempt and I think tries to convince us it's a great idea. Breydon takes control of the pod for a little and we take a deep dive into food preferences and then we cap it off with some questions. You get laughs, cries, and even jingles. It's like being home for the holidays! Now available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and Anchor. Be sure to like, share and subscribe! Have questions for the podcast or topic ideas? Shoot them out to [email protected]. Follow Cris on Instagram at @beersandmiles.
