Honoree 3: Corporal Freddie Stowers! Our 3rd Black History honoree is Corporal Freddie Stowers. Corporal Stowers fought bravely in World War 1 becoming the first African American to receive the Medal of Honor, posthumously, for his valor. President H. W. Bush presented the MOH and Purple Heart to the Stowers family representatives in April of 1991. Many advances have been made to seek other lost commendations for soliders of color since this honor was bestowed to the Stowers Family. October is National Youth Justice Action Month (YJAM) Our 1st Episode of 2023 and new offerings in a youth series, features a Youth Panel comprised of high school students, a college freshman, and parole and probation agent speaking about their experiences, requests to education leaders to make their schools safer, and tips to help students avoid becoming a part of the juvenile justice system.
