Borinqueneers - the 65th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army (Part 6: Korean War, April 1951)
Send us Fan MailThe Borinqueneers were a kickass, all-Hispanic (mostly Puerto Rican) unit of the US Army. These servicemen and women served honorably and with distinction during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. This episode continues with the UN push north toward the 38th Parallel during Operations Rugged and Dauntless. We explain Line Kansas, Line Utah, Line Wyoming, Route 33, and the Iron Triangle. We cover the arrival of more than 1,000 replacement troops from Puerto Rico, friendly fire incidents and tank battles. We also tell the unbelievable true story of Sergeant First Class Modesto Cartagena de Jesús, the Borinqueneer nicknamed “One Man Army,” whose actions on Hill 206 earned him the Distinguished Service Cross and made him one of the most decorated Hispanic soldiers of the Korean War. The episode closes as Chinese forces launch the massive Spring Offensive of April 1951.CONNECT WITH US!Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/242722224736098/Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100082362745798Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/boricuamerican_podcast/Big thanks to Santos Cornier for composing our intro and outro music.
