Once or twice a week, our teacher would coach us through some of the traditional songs of the time. One that stands out in my memory is the Croppy Boy , the story of a young lad who had participated in the 1798 rebellion , and what happened to him when he decided to go to confession before going off to battle.Support the showMondello 24 The 2025 edition.

They recently held a Photo Competition, the theme of the project, to take images of the best of nature has to offer in the environs of the Castle Lake . There were three categories, 6 to 12 years, 13 to17 years and 18 plus in the adult section.The standard across all the age categories was quite impressive.    For  the duration of this podcast, I speak with Barry Kavanagh, one of the members of the group, Friends of Castle Lake,  Melanie Love, who had a highly commended image in the exhibition. So to highlight why this can be useful especially when abroad, I've come up with ,An Amadan Mor Salach,( the big dirty eejit theory).    Is not something that you can expect to find in any text book on the Irish language, or in any school curriculum for that matter.
