The Dennis brothers first saw this sci-fi freak-out on television, years after its 1967 release. Watching it again, the high-quality storytelling shines through. What could have been silly remains thought-provoking and scary as hell. And don’t get us started on the bad things that happen when the English fuck with their subways.

In 1981, the Dennis brothers urged their parents to join them at the theater for George Miller’s second installment of the Mad Max saga, The Road Warrior. Lucky for the boys, dad liked the bone-crushing violence. That Miller was a doctor, like their father, helped, too.

Raised on adventure classics, like Gunga Din, The Prisoner of Zenda and Lawrence of Arabia, the Dennis brothers just about ran to the theater to see The Wind and the Lion when it was released in 1975. Jingoism, menacing masculinity, gun boat diplomacy — upon rewatching, the brothers arehard-pressed: Ham-fisted nostalgia — or current events?
