Chauffeur
The Womack Sisters, Kucha, Zeimani, and BG Womack, were singing before they could walk. They grew up on the road. Their schools were stages and studios all over the world, where they sang behind their parents, Zekkariyas & Zeriiya (fka Womack & Womack), alongside their four siblings. Nowhere was home for long. No matter where they lived they were always surrounded by music and family. Their 2026 self-titled debut album, The Womack Sisters, is the musical culmination of the Sisters’ long and winding journey to find themselves. On an album that is deeply autobiographical, perhaps no lyric is as fitting as the final refrain: People come and go, But, darling this I know, It will always be my sisters and me.

The Mystery Lights - Purgatory
The lead single and title track from their forthcoming LP, "Purgatory" is a pummeling, lysergic blast of punk-infused psychedelia. Its hypnotic beat and chaotic instrumentation set the scene for singer Mike Brandon to escort the listener into a demonic dirge of chanting and instrumental bedlam. A whirlwind of a track sure to turn some heads on the psychedelic scene.

Orquesta Akokán - Con Licencia
Caracoles ushers Orquesta Akokán’s unique brand of mambo into the 21st century. Back at the helm are producer and multi instrumentalist, Jacob Plasse and virtuosic pianist, composer and arranger Michael Eckroth - a collaboration that continues to lead Orquesta’s exploration of the sublime mambo in all its depth and breadth. On this, their third album, they combine talents with Cuban lyricist, singer and composer Kiko Ruiz, a tata —priest— who informs his lyrics with a Palo Mayombe spirituality propelling the mambo back to its original meaning.

Jalen Ngonda - That's All I Wanted From You
From Jalen Ngonda's Daptone Debut Album - Come Around and Love Me. Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, Jalen wrote and recorded his debut album with the help of producers/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires). Jalen's approach to music, and his debut, centers on his deep reverence of the Motown records he grew up with and his appreciation for the timeless soul music of the 20th century, while recognizing that he's able to bring a distinctly 21st-century point of view to those sounds. Come Around And Love Me distills those two timelines into a stunning debut record of modern soul and R&B from one of the powerhouse new voices in the genre.

Jalen Ngonda - Come Around And Love Me
Artists like Jalen Ngonda come around once in a lifetime, so it is our privilege and distinct pleasure to announce the release of his debut album Come Around and Love Me. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene. His voice, equal parts raw feeling and elegance, exudes confidence and charm—disarming packed rooms of rowdy concert goers, leaving them silent as they hold fast to every syllable sung. Plans for the album were struck just months before the COVID 19 pandemic shut the world down. Notwithstanding, Jalen eventually made it to Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY where he began writing and recording with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and a crack team of a-list musicians from the Daptone family. The team skillfully blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with motown sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. Jalen has been writing songs since he was 14, and his compositions are also very much of these times. He explains, “I love music from the 20th century— I listen to it all the time, but I’m in this world and the 21st century. ...to a stranger, I’d describe my music as modern soul and R&B, while trying to fit in the Beach Boys and the Beatles somewhere in between.” Come Around and Love Me reveals how he creates a classic approach that is rooted in the sounds of revered pioneers, without falling into imitation–leaving no doubt that Jalen will continue to shine within the superlative, timeless musical tradition that is Daptone’s hallmark. Now it's your turn to come around and love one of the finest soul albums of the decade.

Vicky Tafoya - The Moment
Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Vicky sing live knows she's one of the most talented singers in the game. Her presence and command on stage has the unique ability to make you feel like she's singing each and every note directly to you. Just being in her orbit for 30 min will have you walking away feeling like you've experienced something special. On this single Vicky flexes her range and writing chops with two deep, deep bluesy ballads of the highest calibre. "Love Don't Treat You Fair" is a tale of despair that creeps along like a long lost Little Willie John session for King. With "The Moment" Vicky delivers an incredibly soulful vocal (ala Etta James) that is so natural and classic it's hard to imagine it wasn't recorded 50 years ago. If bluesy soul is what you're after...look no further!

Jalen NGonda - Just Like You Used To
Daptone Records is proud to present the debut single from the newest member of the Daptone family stable of stars, Jalen Ngonda! Presently residing in the UK, Jalen grew up just outside of Washington D.C., At the tender age of 11 his father introduced him to the joys of soul music, most notably Motown's robust catalog, which he soaked up like a thirsty sponge, guiding him on the path to become the remarkable artist that he is today. With this inaugural release Jalen delivers mid-tempo magic that will make you feel his Motown roots as opposed to wearing them on his sleeve. 'Just Like You Used To' drops with groove and vibe in equal measure, providing the perfect foundation for Jalen's vocals to soar.

Orquesta Akokán - El Inflador
Cuban big band Orquesta Akokán returns with 16 Rayos on Daptone Records, a triumphant follow up to their Grammy nominated debut from 2018. Led by dynamic singer José "Pepito" Gómez, producer Jacob Plasse and arranger Michael Eckroth, and fused with the “island’s greatest instrumentalists'' (New York Times) from storied groups including Irakere, NG La Banda, and Los Van Van, the band united in Havana once again to record at Egrem Studios. The cohesion forged by several years of international touring (including stops at Lincoln Center, WOMAD Australia and New Zealand, North Sea Jazz Festival, Festival Salsa al Parque, Kennedy Center and many more) blossomed into an intimate dialogue between good friends, allowing for fearless musical exploration, risk-taking, development and expression. Contemporary sensibilities, mixed with a deep spiritual reservoir and knowledge of folkloric traditions, propel the grooves into previously uncharted vistas while dismantling the conventions of what is considered mambo. The band will return to the road for world-wide touring in Spring of 2022.

Cochemea - Mimbreños
Dap Kings' Electro-Sax Space Warrior returns with this groove-heavy sequel - an expressive, transcendental journey through the archive of his Indigenous roots and beyond. Drawing on ancestral memories and family histories to wrap new flesh around the bones of history, this album is a bold, semi-autobiographical work that leads us deeper into the annals of family histories, mythology, and the cultural imaginary. Leading a 7-piece ensemble composed of New York’s top percussionists and members of Daptone’s rhythm section, Cochemea has created his own world of emotional textures and rhythmic possibilities, a musical and spiritual synthesis made possible through his deep reverence of the horn and the music and traditions preceding him. Vol II: Baca Sewa - is an offering and continuation of Cochemea’s explorations, part of a musical process of cultural reclamation and healing through connection, relations, memory and imagination.

Thee Sacred Souls "Will I See You Again?"
San Diego's sweetest export is back with two sublime sides of West Coast flavored soul. The soft, tremolo-kissed intro of "Will I See You Again" seeps out of the speakers like a cool Cali breeze, allowing the drop to hit like Thor's hammer on the dancefloor. As the groove gets in you, Josh Lane's vocals send you to a place transcendent of time and space... A world where lovers love, and hate has no place. "It's Our Love"'s mellow but funky feel grinds out a vibe that tempers the "beat" in Beat-Ballad. Thee Sacred Souls are raising the bar to heady, unattainable heights.

Vicky Tafoya - Forever
Penrose Records is proud to introduce the newest members of the family, the Inland Empire’s own Vicky Tafoya and the Big Beat. Born in Santa Ana and currently residing in Colton, Vicky started singing acapella doo wop in the late 80s for the So. Cal. Doo Wop Society and went on to co-found the Big Beat in 2001. Their debut single on Penrose is a moody minor chord ballad featuring a reverb laden guitar solo and beautiful girl group harmonies behind Vicky’s effortless yet haunting vocal about two people longing to be together… Forever.

Napoleon Demps - Norma Jean
Making his debut on Daptone Records, it brings us great pleasure to introduce the baddest new voice in the land, Napoleon Demps. A Flint Michigan native, he grew up listening to Soul luminaries OV Wright, Willie Hutch and Sam Cooke, whose influence led Demps down a path to becoming an accomplished Soul singer himself - scoring his first hit at the age of 24 in the still thriving Southern Chitlin Circuit of the early aughts. Demps, having been a long time Daptone fan, connected with the Dap-Kings at a soundcheck at a Detroit nightclub for an impromptu rendition of “A Change is Gonna Come.” Bosco Mann was floored by his voice and swore they would meet again. Last year, with that sweet soulful voice still ringing in his ears, Mann would reconnect with Demps and bring him out to Penrose Recorders in Riverside, California to finally cut his first Daptone side. "Norma Jean" is a funky soul groover that lands somewhere between the nuanced big city sounds Chicago and Detroit were pumping out in the late '60s: think the grit of Twinight's houseband Pieces of Peace, kissed by the sophisticated Motor City production of Dave Hamilton or The Brothers of Soul and you're getting warm. Napoleon's smooth, commanding voice injects a je ne sais quoi that's wholly fresh, bypassing the affected trappings that plague many of today's singers. In short... Napoleon Demps is a Soul singer's Soul singer. Take a listen and hear for yourself!

LaRose Jackson - How Did We Get Here?
LaRose Jackson, who you may remember from "Luv Jones" - the 2014 party-certified smash duet with the incomparable Charles Bradley - steps into the spotlight with her funky solo debut, "How Did We Get Here". Born and raised in Coney Island, LaRose's rich timbre and assertive vocal delivery caught the attention of producer Tommy "TNT" Brenneck one night when he was in attendance at Charles Bradley's legendary "Black Velvet" show at Club Essence - where Jackson was also a regular performer. The two hit it off and began collaborating on several sides, the fruit of which we humbly offer up here. LaRose's tough-as-nails delivery coupled with the infallible groove and sure-shot horn arrangement courtesy of the Menahan Street Band distills the track down to Soul in its purest form, without sacrificing any of the rawness one comes to expect from a TNT production. Expect much more on the horizon from LaRose and Co.. This is just the tip of the iceberg! DL/Stream: https://daptone.ffm.to/larose #getmoreplays

Menahan Street Band - Queens Highway (Pts I, II, III)
MSB are back with an atmospheric slow burner that's sure to part the sonic clouds and shine some much needed light on the quarantine doldrums. The opening guitar lick, accompanied by percolating bass and a gorgeous flourish of horns provide an ethereal, almost psychedelic bedrock for the groove to build upon. The vocal melody, courtesy of The Gospel Queens, enters like the first warm breeze of spring, immersing the listener in a wash of soulful ecstasy. A small, albeit extraordinary sample of their forthcoming album "The Exciting Sounds Of". Stay tuned! DL/Stream: https://daptone.ffm.to/queenshighway #getmoreplays

Orquesta Akokán - 4 de Octubre
Orquesta Akokan's latest single, "4 de Octubre", is a lucumi fever dream of sublime mambo. Tata's introduction for Chango segues into blistering horns played with fervor that transcends the earthly realm, seducing the listener as the melody gives way to the hypnotic rhythm of the Bata. As the groove builds Tata's poem prayer seems to beckon the horns and chorus to re-enter, allowing the music to crest and swoon, creating new sonic vistas in its wake.
