Deedlecast

Deedlecast is the weekly vanity podcast of the virtually unknown DJDeedle. Every Friday, DJDeedle posts a 30 to 40 minute show, called a "Deedlecast," featuring mashup, chillout, downtempo, or dance mixes and remixes of every conceivable kind

  1. 100

    New Old World Sound

This week, DJDeedle explores a vast landscape where The Doors ride the storm of modern beats and Wiz Khalifa cruises with The Cars. Experience the soulful grit of Gladys Knight & the Pips meeting the Steve Miller Band, or the unexpected harmony of Dr. Dre and Snoop alongside the Buena Vista Social Club. From the cinematic notes of Doc Martin to the high-energy collision of 2Pac and Fatboy Slim, bridge the gap between vintage soul and contemporary hip-hop. Press play to experience the "Old World" in a brand-new light.

  2. 99

    Count of Three

One, two, three. This week, a masterclass in sonic multiplication and addition where the sum is always greater than the parts. The rhythmic arithmetic grows complex as Sixpence None the Richer meets Green Day and Drake in a multi-layered blend. From the heavy hitters of Led Zeppelin and James Brown to the soulful resonance of Marvin Gaye and The Supremes, this set proves that three is the magic number.

  3. 98

    Reify

To reify is to take the abstract, a fleeting melody or a conceptual beat, and give it definite, material form. This week, DJDeedle turns the "what if" into the "what is," materializing sonic collisions that shouldn't work on paper but feel inevitable in the air. It's a masterclass in concrete pop as Michael Jackson, The Weeknd, and Justin Timberlake solidify into a singular groove, giving "definite content" to the unexpected, like Sinead O'Connor finding her rhythm with Chic or Curtis Mayfield meeting Buffalo Springfield in a soulful revolution. Whether it's the heavy-hitting reification of Korn covering Cameo or the ethereal blend of Pink Floyd and DJ Prince, these tracks are no longer just ideas; they are your new reality. Press play and witness the abstract become concrete.

  4. 97

    Street Science

Welcome to the lab where the asphalt meets the atom. Have you heard of a young scientist called Duran Duran? In this week's episode, DJDeedle conducts high-octane experiments in sonic fusion. Forget the Bunsen burners; the real heat comes from the collision of Michael Jackson, John Cougar Mellencamp, and those hungry Wild Boy wolves. It is a world where The Police patrol the neon-lit streets with T.Rex, and Queen discovers a common frequency with the Beatles. DJDeedle mixes 1980s legends with modern catalysts and reagents, proving that Rick Astley and Ke$ha share a surprising molecular bond. From the classic rock riffs of ZZ Top to the pop alchemy of Britney Spears and Guns n' Roses, every track is a breakthrough in street-level physics. Step into the lab to witness the liquid streetlife where Missy Elliot meets Lipps, Inc., and Lenny Kravitz goes head-to-head with the Princess of Pop. This is not just a playlist: it is a theory of everything.

  5. 96

    Hot Diggity

DJDeedle's been working on this one for so long that the working title was actually, "Going Nowhere." But Hot Diggity! It's finally ready for your discerning and highly tuned ears. DJDeedle is teaching some classic tracks new tricks, blending everyone from Rick Astley and Whitney Houston to the heavy-hitting riffs of AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. You will find Marvin Gaye and Hall & Oates prowling the same territory as 50 Cent and The Muppets in a sonic pedigree that is strictly top-shelf. This may have started out "going nowhere," but it's certainly found its feet. Stop chasing your tail and just hit play.

  6. 95

    Make Your Mind Up

Life and music are all about choices. But there are always so many options that it can be overwhelming. This week, DJDeedle narrows it down for you, mixes it up for maximum variety, and sends you all over the musical universe. Step into the rabbit hole to navigate a digital overload, a choice between the comfort of the blue pill and the truth of the red. By stripping away the paralysis of indecision, this mix blends the synthetic echoes of Yaz and Tears for Fears with high-energy collisions from The Who and Depeche Mode, transforming a world of chaotic noise into a singular, cohesive journey.

  7. 94

    Queen for a Day

Heavy is the head that wears the headphones. This week's Deedlecast is a sonic coronation where genre boundaries are dissolved, and musical icons are reimagined. This episode is a fever dream of "what if" scenarios brought to life through seamless, high-energy alchemy. Whether you are here for the yacht-funk fusion or the pop-punk-glam hybrids, the hierarchy of sound is yours to command; for the next 45 minutes, you are the one wearing the crown. While the episode is titled for Dolly, the spirit of the show is hidden in the French soul of Native. In "Emmène-moi," they sing of being a "Princesse pour un soir" (Princess for one night), perfectly echoing the fleeting, royal magic of the episode's theme. When you pair that sentiment with the high-gloss disco energy of France Joli, you get a track that feels like a midnight ball in a Parisian club. It's the moment in the podcast where the "Queen for a Day" title finds its younger, soulful cousin in a "Princess for a Night."

  8. 93

    Tables are Starting To Turn

In this week's Deedlecast, mashups meet a musical uprising. Inspired by Tracy Chapman's call for change, we explore every revolution of the record. From Devo to U2, witness a sonic shift where the tables are finally starting to turn. Just a note to the ultra-sensitive: there are a couple of rude words in this one.

  9. 92

    Get it Together

When icons collide, the magic happens. These high-energy mashups prove that when disparate sounds finally get it together, the results are electric. From James Brown to Prince, dive into an eclectic journey where unexpected pairings find their rhythm and every beat fits perfectly.

  10. 91

    Sonic Heirloom

This week, thrill to sounds spanning six decades. Precious keepsakes from the past get a touch of today, a gloss of yesterday, becoming more valuable and collectable than ever. Enjoy this collection of Sonic Heirlooms you'll want to treasure forever.

  11. 90

The Places You Will Be From

This week's collection of mashed tunes reminds us that, no matter who, how old, or where you are, you can always go home. The title, of course, comes from a line in "Closing Time," a song by Semisonic, mixed into this show. The song, according to its composer, Dan Wilson, is not really about an ending, the closing of the bar and tossing out all the patrons, but a beginning. DJDeedle hopes this show both reminds you of where you came from and takes you back to a new beginning in the places you will be from.

  12. 89

    Paisley Pop Technology

From Yes, to Prince, to Lady Gaga, Van Halen, Journey, A-Ha, and Fleetwood Mac, this week's Deedlecast is filled to the brim with pop sounds. DJDeedle ties these sounds together with a dynamic combination of classic and cutting-edge tech, and synth 2026 sounds like the Purple Disco Machine. It's 48 minutes of pure fun.

  13. 88

    What's Your Damage?

Back in the 1980s, when we wanted to know what your problem was, we asked, "what's your damage?" This week, no matter what your problem is, these tunes mashed and mixed from the 80s, 70s, 60s, and today will fix your damage.

  14. 87

    Into the Disco Scene

This week, jump into the glitz and the glam and boogie down to the disco sound. Even if you weren't around in the 1970s for the first go-around, these tunes will get you right into the disco scene.

  15. 86

    80s Walk

In the 1980s, we really walked the walk. And no walk in the 80s would be complete without those amazing tunes. We had the best bands, like Tears for Fears, Spandau Ballet, U2, the Cars, the Pet Shop Boys, and Hall & Oates. And solo singers, like Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Jody Whatly, and Cyndi Lauper were beyond compare. This week, let's take a walk in our top-siders with the curly laces, Chuck Taylors, or your Nike Air Force 1s. Choose your style.

  16. 85

    Thank You Internet

Back in the day, mashups, audio collages, and cutups were just something you heard on websites that found those special handmade creations for you. One legendary site was "Some Assembly Required." Jon Nelson hosted the nationally syndicated radio program Some Assembly Required from 1999-2011. In Jon's very final episode in 2011, he honored DJDeedle by ending his run with my very own first mashup, "Come Tangerine Together."  The internet has given us so much. But for DJDeedle, the internet is a feast of music.  This Deedlecast episode is dedicated to Jon Nelson and his epic work of bringing the best of internet musical creations to light.

  17. 84

    King of Shimmy

It's time to get your groove on with his royal highness of sound, the King of Shimmy. Classic kings of shimmy like Roger Miller, Robbie Williams, Bill Withers, Carl Douglas, and the Temptations hold court with their heirs to the throne like Duran Duran, Led Zeppelin, Run DMC, AC/DC, Katie Enlow, CCR, and more to bring the art of the shimmy into the 21st Century.

  18. 83

    Jukebox Movement

This week, DJDeedle invites you to join Jukebox Movement. This jukebox is filled to the brim with thrills and chills from the 1980s, mixed and mashed with anything and everything, running the gamut of musical genres.

  19. 82

    Redeye to Maracaibo

Venezuela has been in the news lately for all kinds of reasons, and none of them good. But that shouldn't stop you from catching this week's adventure: a Redeye to Maracaibo. Just don't try to use your phrasebook Spanish at the airport. They won't understand a word.

  20. 81

    Secrets and Mysteries

The world is filled with secrets and mysteries. This Deedlecast has been waiting since Valentine's Day in 2017 to unlock the hidden secrets and tantalizing mysteries of our world, delving deep into the shadows, revealing astonishing truths, and exploring the unexplained, where the extraordinary lies just beneath the surface. Are you ready to uncover the musical wonders within?

  21. 80

    Time Will Tell

The music of the 1980s is just the gift that keeps on giving. DJDeedle gives these timeless tunes a new gloss, a 21st Century rework. Will these refurbished tunes still thrill decades from now? Only Time Will Tell.

  22. 79

    Missed Much

Yet another one of those dusty drafts that for some reason never made it out to the wider world. This one has waited for its release since April of 2017. What have you missed while this has been in hibernation? You've missed much.

  23. 78

    Situational Awareness

Have you found yourself in a bit of a situation? Now worries. DJDeedle's got what you need to get you through that mess. These tunes will give you the clarity and focus you need to push your limits.

  24. 77

    Count Me In

Yet again, another fantastic Deedlecast that has languished in the finished but not published file from back in 2017.  It's cute, whimsical, classic, but still as fun and fresh as it was in 2017. Definitely count me in for this one.

  25. 76

    Burning Sounds

This one has been sitting in the drafts file, ready to be finalized, since August of 2017. And listening to it again, it's still just as fresh, fun, and on fire as it was 7 years ago.  Sorry for the wait. But I think it was worth the wait.

  26. 75

    Ghastly

It's here! DJDeedle's annual Halloween party. This truly ghastly mix of scary and haunted this-and-that should rock your fright night right.

  27. 74

    Mild Things

Time to relax. Chill out. Enjoy soothing sounds that are not too loud, not too much beat, not too much anything. Just some mild things.

  28. 73

    TapeDeck

DJDeedle's got some music for your tape recorder. Rewind and fast forward the TapeDeck and enjoy the freshest, newest, oldies.

  29. 72

    Lady Bug's Picnic

Join the Ladybugs Twelve for a sumptuous picnic of tunes and good times. Dance, relax, chat amongst yourselves. All are welcome!

  30. 71

    Planet Boogie

Deedlecast takes you to a strange new world where disco never died and reigns supreme, with a sound that has evolved and taken on new life. Take a step out on the surface and enjoy the atmosphere.

  31. 70

    Naughty Nick's Wild Ride

Poor Saint Nick. He just can't catch a break. He only works one night per year, but what a night. Like Santa, you deserve to cut loose a little this holiday season, let down your hair, and get crazy. What happens on Christmas stays in Christmas, or something like that.  DJDeedle's got your holiday soundtrack once again this year. A little rage, a little rave, a soft soaring touch here and there, some tacky but comforting tunes, and tacos, lots of tacos for everyone this year!

  32. 69

    Grave Rave

Trick or treat! DJDeedle's back with a haunted Halloween rave full of musical ear candy. Fifty minutes of monsters, zombies, transvestite Transylvanians, snakes, hellhounds, and the funk of forty-thousand years to make you shake and quiver.

  33. 68

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

DJDeedle's back with a fantastic holiday musical gift: holiday sounds that you know, but are new and fresh at the same time. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

  34. 67

    Scary Noise

What's that peculiar noise?! DJDeedle's back with some scary noises just in time for Halloween. Get ready for some chilling thrills and unexpected scary sounds. Happy Halloween!

  37. 64

    Ice Box

Best way to beat the summer heat is to pull something cool from the "Ice Box." Cold as ice, these tunes are anything but chill.

  38. 63

    Electrospective

Electric and eclectic. This week's Deedlecast brings together the sounds of the past and the present, electro-style. Disco, rock, hip-hop, rap, grunge, metal, and pop reimagined in an energizing electro beat that you won't be able to resist.

  39. 62

    Sundial

At long last summer is here! Time to head for the sun. DJDeedle's turning up the dial on some sun-soaked tunes. Check the sundial. It says "summer starts today!"

  40. 61

    Split the Difference

When you get caught between the old and the new, the classic and the cutting edge, do what DJDeedle does - "Split the Difference."

  41. 60

    Loose Translation

Music like language is full of rules and customs. This week, DJDeedle flouts prevailing conventions and plays fast and loose with the rules. When what you hear doesn't seem to make sense, loosen the translation a bit and it'll all become perfectly clear.

  42. 59

    Mr. Seduction

He woke us up before we go-go, told us we had to have faith, taught us to listen without prejudice, and had us praying for time, all while desperately wanting our sex. George Michael was taken from us far too soon, along with so many other legends in 2016. This week, DJDeedle presents a short, but sweet, sexy, and seductive tribute to Mr. Seduction himself, the legendary George Michael.

  43. 58

    Eleventh Hour

This week, we celebrate eleven years of Deedlecast. That's eleven years of facing the music together.  This hour-long episode has chills, thrills, spills, and a full-on party like it's 1999.

  44. 57

    Detour

It's not a wrong turn. It's a detour. This little detour will take you to a level of fun you've never been to before. Give it a try. See where you end up! Note - there are some rude words in this one!

  45. 56

    The CrayCray

Here it is! The last Deedlecast of 2016. It was a crazy year, and 2017 looks like it may be worse. Throw yourself into some crazy music. If you can't beat the crazy, join it. We are the crazy people.

  46. 55

    Thrill Again

This week, DJDeedle brings back those old musical thrills, those songs you loved so much you waited for hours for them to play on the radio. They're back, mashed, remixed, and infused with the thrills you deserve. It's time to love music again.

  47. 54

    Danger by Design

This week on #Deedlecast, it all gets a little dangerous. Throw caution to the wind and indulge in some tricky rhythms, risky beats, and perilous combinations. You won't know what hit you. You're in for thrilling ride. The danger's baked in. It's not a bug, it's a feature.

  48. 53

    In and Out of Style

Don't be a slave to fickle fashion. Musical styles and trends come and go, ebb and flow, go in and out of fashion. Don't be afraid to let your hair down, cut lose, and enjoy a little Deedlecast style.

  49. 52

    XRock80

It's time to flip on some 80s radio goodness for the 21st Century.  It's a dead man's party that will have you dancing like a maniac on the floor. 80s flavor. 2016 style.

  50. 51

    Equipoise

It's time to put some balance into your music. This week, some point-counterpoint. A little music to keep you on your toes all weekend. Are you sitting comfortably? Good. Now let's begin.
