deep meaningless conversations
by deepmeaninglessconversations
‘deep meaningless conversations’ is a podcast created by a collective of five girlfriends navigating life as grown up third culture "kids." Hailing from Nigeria, Korea and Thailand our friendships started at the age of 10 when we met in boarding school in the UK. Now we’re all grown up and we may be older, marginally wiser but 100% unapologetically ourselves. Whether it’s social issues, pop culture, interviewing guests or discussing personal experiences and relationships, you can expect us to talk about both everything and nothing.

S2, Episode 1: Boris Hates Us
We kick off this season cracking ourselves up debating politics, Covid, citizenship & Brexit. In typical DMC fashion this episode is lowkey a hot mess as we also discuss the Bible, Clubhouse, Fitbits and black women being called sassy. If there's one thing you take out of this episode it's that Boris hates us and the UK is the ghetto. #DMCisBack

S1, Episode 12: This Is Family Business
On this week's episode we discuss family building and if/how our ideals have changed over the years from how many kids we want to have, to the type of person we thought we'd settle down with and where. In typical DMC-fashion, today's conversation also covers an unusual range of other topics including boarding schools, circumcision and adoption.

S1, Episode 10: Last Orders
On today's episode, we discuss some of life's biggest and smallest questions over a glass (or 6) of wine. Like, what makes Heinz ketchup an elite ketchup? How can Sauvignon Blanc be from New Zealand if it's a French grape? What are the defining ingredients that differentiates an Italian tomato sauce from a Nigerian stew? Are we naturally monogamous? And can you be a loyal friend if you cheat on your partner? We may be in a lockdown, but there's still time for last orders.

S1, Episode 9: The Bachelorette, Love & Other (Rom-Com) Drugs
As lowkey members of #BachelorNation, we welcome you to join us on our journey as we recap, review and debate the latest season of The Bachelorette over the next few weeks. Today, we dissect the first 2 episodes and debate Clare’s “oldest bachelorette ever” storyline, the dangers of using the show for healing/therapy and whether we think any other dating shows can compete. In true DMC fashion, we also get sidetracked and discuss rom-coms more broadly, and what makes them good, bad, or so bad they’re good.

S1, Episode 8: Personal Activism For Global Citizens
On today's episode, we hit you with an important dose of deepness as we discuss the police brutality and peaceful protests currently taking place around the world. From the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria, to what's happening in Thailand, join us as we unpack what's been happening over the last few weeks as we ask ourselves, what we can do to support? What does it means to be an ally and a global citizen? What might next steps look like? What's the role of celebrity and social media activism?

S1, Episode 7: Netflix & Chill
This week, we throw it back to the TV shows that impacted our lives - good and bad. Whether it was Gossip Girl making us think all 16 year olds were hot (without having to work out) and lived in penthouse suites in family-owned hotels, or Grey's Anatomy breaking our hearts, we unpack the positives and negatives we've internalized over the years as we tried to fit our lives into the narratives of the shows we watched. Disclaimer: no Netflix and chilling was actually involved in the making of this episode. But the future holds no promises.
