To Be Right Or To Be Curious For Your Legacy with Nell3D
Many high-achieving leaders are doing everything “right,” yet still feel exhausted by the constant pressure to do more. Where Are You Not Leading In Your Legacy with Mark Vincent
When leaders feel anxiety around change, they often slip into performance mode instead of asking the deeper questions that matter most: Who am I now, and what does success look like in this next chapter? If we are lucky enough to live to age 80, we have roughly 4,000 weeks, making it essential to design our legacy plan now with intention. And planning anything can be hard, unless we see the advantages of it right away. In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with Mark Vincent, Ph.D. about how succession and wealth transfers are not merely financial events, but deeply human transitions that can reshape, recast and reform anyone’s identity, purpose, and motivations. Mark shares how holistic legacy planning starts with a personal mission statement, a guiding philosophy, and clarity about the people who will embrace your 'personal development'. Just as Beethoven composed his Symphony No. 9 while deaf, you too can find inspiration to transform your life's changes from moments of uncertainty into opportunities to compose your timeless legacy.-Mark L. Fulfillment In Your Legacy with Wealth Adviser Stephen Wagner
Many entrepreneurs spend decades building successful companies, yet when it’s finally time to sell, most discover a hard truth: success in business does not automatically translate into a successful exit or a meaningful legacy. In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with wealth manager Steven Wagner to explain why nearly 80% of businesses that go to market never sell—and why the real issue often has less to do with market conditions and more to do with a lack of intentional planning for the end of the journey. Entrepreneurs are the heroes of their story. They build businesses, create jobs, and generate wealth. But when the moment of transition approaches, many founders realize they are facing unfamiliar questions:What does life look like after the liquidity event?Who will carry forward the vision of the enterprise? How will the wealth they created strengthen—not fracture—their relationships?Mr. Wagner speaks about how a successful exit requires more than financial preparation—it requires designing the next chapter of life and legacy. Tune in to discover why founders often struggle to sell and how to avoid the most common traps:• Owners rarely start with the end in mind for their biz, life, or legacy.• Why many founders approach a liquidity event without a trusted team or a clear game plan for what comes next.• How neglecting social and human capital—especially family council meetings and intentional communication—can fracture relationships. The result of this kind of planning is profound. When founders intentionally design their exit, they gain more than financial security. They create continuity of leadership, stronger personal relationships, and a legacy that extends far beyond the balance sheet. If you are an entrepreneur, business owner, or family steward thinking about the long-term impact of your success, this episode will challenge you to rethink one powerful idea: Your business exit isn’t the finish line—it’s the beginning of your legacy.-Learn more about Mr. Wagner at https://iwaplan.com.-At Legacy Planning©, we work with 'rising gen' entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and family stewards who are ready to turn their success into lasting contribution. Reuniting Families For Their Legacy Thru Aviation with David Clark
In today’s private aviation landscape, many high-net-worth and UHNW families enter ownership seeking freedom and convenience—only to encounter hidden complexity, staffing challenges, financial inefficiencies, and governance gaps. Without the built-in infrastructure that corporations rely on, family office aviation can expose individuals as well as families to operational risk, cultural misalignment, and unnecessary capital drain. In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with David Clark of Integris Aviation Consultancy about clarifying the differences between corporate aviation, fractional ownership, and family aviation—so families can honor the Founder's legacy vision. David outlines a path forward: intentional staffing aligned with family culture, disciplined oversight, strategic budgeting, and expert support to mitigate risk. When structured correctly, a family aviation program becomes more than transportation—it becomes strategic infrastructure that protects time, enhances flexibility, and strengthens legacy continuity. How Can You Make Your Legacy Better? with Wesley Rowlands
Successful individuals and families don’t always fail financially—they can also fracture relationally, in "expectations", and due to outside influences, and no amount of wealth can fix what design was meant to prevent. Many high-achievers build assets "without realizing there can also be emotional costs" re: the climb re: their success, leaving their relationships and next generation rich in capital but poor in connection, trust, and kept promises. Without "front loading discomfort", about one's values when under pressure, the drive to succeed in business can become all consuming instead of a single element to a more meaningful 'legacy vision', creating unplanned for distance and possibly, contempt. Many individuals also mistake estate planning for legacy planning, solving for their financial capital while forgetting to invest in their other forms of capital: human, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, etc, for balance, depth and meaning. In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with Wesley Rowlands about creating 'results before returns' to be one step ahead of the many risks of what can come with success as well as wealth, when business opportunities outpaces personal development and stewardship of other 'life areas'. Narrow or No Space For Your Legacy? with Jonathan Steele
Most families focus on protecting assets, but the real breakdown happens in the relationship systems when individuals haven’t done their inner work or built healthy communication patterns. Without safe spaces in family council meetings or a family's culture for honesty, financial infidelity can replace trust—creating silence, secrecy, and fractured relationship dynamics. For many, this begins in childhood, when prior generations never learned how to process emotions, conflict, or uncertainty. When role models and caretakers fail to evolve beyond their authority role, values aren’t truly transferred—only control, confusion, and expectations. In this podcast episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with Jonathan Steele, CFA to reveals why money doesn’t move through generations neutrally—it needs relationship systems to not break down, for individuals to work on themselves in personal development and for there to be a design for your legacy. Tune in as this conversation shows why planning your holistic legacy must include both financial strategy and emotional architecture to create true connection as well as continuity.Learn more about Jonathan at https://onewealth.net.-At Legacy Planning©, we work with 'rising gen' entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and family stewards who are ready to turn their success into lasting contribution. How A 831(b) Plan Can Help Your Legacy with Van Carlson
What if the real risk to your legacy isn’t market volatility or taxes—but the way your business thinks about risk in the first place? Most founders and business owners, with over $2M in profit, sense that something in their risk strategy is incomplete—but they can’t quite name it.In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton sits down with Van Carlson, Founder of Strategic Risk Advisors, to clarify what 831(b) captives truly are, separating legitimate risk architecture from the rumors that create hesitation. Together, they reveal why institutions treat risk as infrastructure—not an afterthought—and how disciplined insurance design protects both operating businesses and family continuity. Van explains the simple tests that distinguish defensible captives from structures that fail under scrutiny, bringing much-needed clarity to a misunderstood tool. The real remedy isn’t tax reduction—it’s alignment between risk, governance, and long-term decision-making. For families designing a legacy, this conversation reframes 831(b)s as part of holistic legacy planning: preserving resilience today so wealth, values, and leadership can endure tomorrow.-Van Carlson is the Founder of Strategic Risk Advisors (SRA) and a recognized authority in captive insurance and enterprise risk management, with decades of experience designing and administering insurance solutions for closely held and sophisticated businesses. Through SRA, he has helped companies approach IRC 831(b) captives not as tax products, but as disciplined risk-financing tools grounded in actuarial science, governance, and real insurance principles. Americans Welcome Switzerland For Your Legacy with Anne Liebgott
Building significant wealth in one country often creates an invisible risk: total exposure to a single political, legal, and regulatory system. As policies, taxes, and enforcement priorities shift, even successful individuals and families can find their wealth vulnerable to changes beyond their control. Many hesitate to diversify internationally due to regulatory complexity, misinformation, or fear of 'the unknown' in an increasingly transparent global system. Others delay action until uncertainty feels urgent, at which point options narrow and decisions become reactive rather than strategic. In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with Anne Liebgott about finding trusted guidance, as many domestic advisors are not equipped—or incentivized—to support international diversification. Emotional attachment to one’s home country and identity can also prevent rational long-term planning. Yet today's 'rising' generations seek mobility and optionality. Tune in as this episode reframes international diversification not as an escape, but as a thoughtful legacy strategy—one rooted in stability, compliance, and long-term stewardship across generations.Explore the platform to learn more at www.americanswelcome.swiss.-At Legacy Planning©, we work with 'rising gen' entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and family stewards who are ready to turn their success into lasting contribution. How Dyslexia Can Humanize Legacies with Russell Van Brocklen
In multi-generational families of wealth, dyslexia can quietly challenge the very ideals of achievement, confidence, and continuity. A child who struggles to read may internalize shame or feel they’ve disappointed the family. Parents, driven by high expectations, often oscillate between guilt and overcorrection—seeking to fix rather than understand. Grandparents may misinterpret the struggle through outdated notions of discipline, unaware of the opportunity for growth it presents. In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with Russell Van Brocklen about his personal struggles as well as his latest research project. When a family can reframe dyslexia as difference instead of defect, it can transform frustration into empathy and innovation...and Russell offers a few ideas on how to leverage both AI as well as the craft of research as tools. These insights can shift results as well as opportunities —from perfect performance to creative problem-solving and resilience. Ultimately, acknowledging dyslexia early on can strengthen the family legacy, humanizing what we all bring to the table with compassion and new perspectives.Learn more at https://dyslexiaclasses.com.-At Legacy Planning©, we work with rising entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and family stewards who are ready to turn their success into lasting contribution. Start with Paper For Your Legacy Plan with Nelson Nigel
Parents traveling with young children often face the stressful reality of rideshares and taxis without car seats. In 2016, Nelson Nigel saw this firsthand as an Uber driver and recognized the risk families were forced to take... even before app's were well known as they are in 2025. Instead of waiting for another to lead, he chose to act as a pioneer, creating apps such as Kidmoto (under "Moto Nation")—a company he built to ensure safe, convenient travel for parents and their children. But how did it all start and what did Nelson have to overcome to finally write that great business plan?In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with Nelson Nigel about how he turned his personal challenges as an immigrant from Guyana (in South America) into 7-figure success while in New York City (USA). Tune in to hear how he leveraged all of his life experiences, from selling T-shirts and building a commercial property, to then develop his first app's. In one sentence, hear how Nelson defines his legacy as his four core values are a reminder that no matter the heart break and pain, resilience makes your legacy become a reality in 64 cities with expansion into Europe. We are our own legacy architects! -Nelson Nigel is the Founder and CEO of Moto Nation. In 2016, as an Uber driver, he observed the absence of child car seats in taxis and car services, leaving parents in vulnerable positions. Recognizing the gap in the market left by Uber and Lyft, Nelson developed a mobile app to offer a convenient and safe solution for parents traveling with small children, particularly to and from airports.Moto Nation has since become a trusted brand, connecting parents with a network of skilled drivers providing secure child car seats for airport transfers in United States cities and soon, to be in Europe. Despite Nelson's challenging background—growing up poor and surviving a train accident that left him in a coma for weeks—he maintained a positive mindset no matter what in order to be in service to others. His hard work and respect for humanity has led Kidmoto to achieve milestones he could only dream of, including 40,000+ completed rides, a 7-figure revenue for 2023, and a valuation of $25 million USD. -At Legacy Planning©, we work with rising entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and family stewards who are ready to turn their success into lasting contribution. Beyond Words: Maria Gallucci on Communication and Legacy
Few agents, lenders, or brokers can communicate in sign language, forcing reliance on interpreters who may not always be provided. On top of that, closing documents are full of legal jargon. Without clear, accessible communication, deaf/HoH clients risk signing documents they don’t fully understand. In some scenarios, interpreters aren’t offered at all, or those provided aren’t trained in legal terminology as to their qualifications. The process is often rushed. Without accommodations like interpreters, CART captioning, or written explanations, the deaf and HOH can feel pressured to sign quickly without clarity. Then, there are side conversations between lenders, agents, and attorneys who may exclude the deaf/HoH client(s), undermining their participation and trust. With AI today, many e-signature platforms, remote notary systems, and lender portals aren’t designed with accessibility in mind (limited captioning, no video relay integration, etc.). Or worse, some professionals may see accommodations as an “inconvenience” rather than a right, creating friction and distrust at the table, in their lack of empathy. In this episode, Angelina Carleton speaks with Maria Gallucci about growing up with two deaf parents and helping them buy their first home at age 12. As a CODA (child of a deaf adult), Maria learned the weight that the deaf and HOH (hard of hearing) carry as well as how to read facial expressions, body language, lips from a distance and a room. Tune in to hear how Maria’s experiences are changing theresidential real estate industry and how you too can bridge the gap between the deaf/HOH with the hearing communities. Plus, how Maria’s core values not only feed her soul but her legacy plan as well!- Maria serves on boards for Rocky Mountain Deaf School, DOVE, and Colorado Association of the Deaf. Her motto "just try" reflects her belief that meaningful connection starts with one small step. The Shortest Distance Between Two People with Greg Logan
Individuals as well as families don’t know how to articulate their stories. We all have extraordinary experiences and insights, but we struggle to capture them in a way that’s compelling and coherent to create the through-line—the “golden thread”—whether that's now or for 10, 100 or 500 years from now. Add to this lack of clarity the fear of vulnerability as well as oversharing. So how do you balance honesty with dignity, so as to define your best stories to inspire while maintaining discretion? In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with founder Greg Logan of Narrativity about ‘what if the importance of your legacy is your story?’ Individuals, families and organizations frequently pass on wealth and traditions without the story behind the why and the details. What Matters Most For Your Legacy with Kathleen Quinn
If you do not believe you are enough, you will never believe you have enough. Or are doing enough. So then how do you get to your mindset of abundance in order to discover ‘what matters most’? The challenge is not just getting your paperwork in order —it’s about aligning decisions for how you would like to contribute to the world when feeling worthy and whole. Especially when there’s unresolved grief that lives in your body or fear that shows up in ‘scarcity conversations’. Without alignment, people often delay or avoid the most vulnerable conversations, leaving others with uncertainty or nothing. In this podcast episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with Kathleen Quinn, an accomplished author and advisor, who has devoted her career to helping others design their giving while at Stanford University. She believes your values are the real drivers ... especially when you can feel grounded, free and fulfilled. Tune in to hear how she asks the key question of “does this align with the world I want to create?” in rewriting beliefs at any stage or year of your life. Learn how your values demand your visibility and how buffalo run right through storms compared to pushing their feelings down.-Kathleen Quinn is a mindset coach and certified Grief Educator—whose 30+ years as a Stanford philanthropy leader inform her relational and values-focused perspective on wealth. She specializes in guiding clients to align their financial decisions—not just with outcomes, but with their core values and desired legacy. She not only speaks into how fear and grief can live into our bodies but also about how boundaries can serve as your wealth compass to align with what matters most. How do you use your core values as filters for financial decisions, investments, and charitable giving? How do you set values-aligned boundaries around requests and expectations regarding money? How do you recognize that our most treasured relationships deserve boundaries around time, energy, and emotional investment? Kathleen’s work aligns beautifully with the subject of legacy planning as legacy is more than what we leave behind—it’s how we live now. Her approach offers both intention and strategy for anyone ready to design a legacy that’s authentic, grounded, and deeply meaningful.-At Legacy Planning©, we work with rising entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and family stewards who are ready to turn their success into lasting contribution. Share this episode with someone who’s ready to design a legacy that truly matters.-When William was at NC State, he had the opportunity to take a year and work in Washington DC. It was during this time that he read Alan Greenspan’s book, “Maestro” and decided to finish with an economics degree at university. The concept of economics was instantly interesting as it was digesting new data to create new projections – it was dynamic and always being refreshed. Through his CFP® studies and work with individual clients and business owners, he has learned that in some ways, economics and financial planning are very much alike. As financial planners, he works with precise and imprecise inputs to create a forecast for the future. It just so happens he does it with families and their businesses. After spending more than a decade with a fast- growing RIA in Columbia, Maryland with two great mentors, he left, and after a short stint with another firm, started Portus Wealth Advisors in 2019. In his time in Maryland, he served as the President and Chair of the Maryland chapter of the Financial Planning Association, worked on several national committees, and spoke at industry conferences. Yet upon moving to Charlotte, he knew he needed to connect with the local ecosystem. Since being there, he has spent most of his time in Charlotte working in the entrepreneurial community. This experience in mentoring young startups through RevTech Labs and LaunchLKN and being a member of the Charlotte Angel Fund have provided an awesome opportunity to both learn from great entrepreneurs AND give back. His professional passion for the next 10 years is attracting talented professionals to Portus to teach them how to deliver exceptional service and advice to current and future clients. He enjoys reading books about business and people. And if you want the full story of his life in Washington DC and how he came to see Alan Greenspan regularly for 3 months and skipped the White House Y2K celebration he was invited to work, just ask. -At Legacy Planning©, we work with rising entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and family stewards who are ready to turn their success into lasting contribution. Maximizing Exits and Preserving Legacies with Kevon Saber
What if the sale of your business could be more than a transaction — what if it could be a transformation for your legacy planning? And how do you elevate human flourishing so as to protect the legacies of all involved? In this podcast episode, Angelina Carleton speaks with Kevon Saber, a values-based entrepreneur and founder of Legacy Outcomes, an elite M&A firm helping sellers transition their companies in ways that maximize their exit as well as preserve their legacy for all involved. From his days leading GoCheck Kids, a vision-screening platform for children, as children face a number of obstacles in fulfilling their potential, Kevon reveals why legacy can’t be measured in numbers alone. We explore how founders can architect outcomes, rather than react to offers — as great outcomes comes from great options. If you’re building a business worth passing on — or preparing for your next chapter — this episode is for you! We cover:✔️ The emotional and strategic layers of selling a business✔️ Why standard M&A firms miss what matters most✔️ Real-life lessons from scaling and exiting eight-figure companies✔️ Redefining success as legacy, not just liquidity-Kevon Saber is a founding partner of Legacy Outcomes. Under his leadership, GoCheck became the vision screening platform of choice for 20,000 healthcare providers in all 50 states and grew its valuation by over 100x. The product won top honors at both HIMSS Connected Health and SXSW, with investors including InterWest Partners (~100 IPOs), Sovereign’s Capital, and Marc Benioff.Kevon also co-founded GenPlay Games, a mobile games developer that generated over $70 million in sales, collaborating with top athletes like Maria Sharapova and Tracy McGrady, and classic brands like PAC-MAN, Galaga, and Qbert. The Blind Kitchen: Cooking Up Legacy with Debra Erickson
Food is the love language for many people. So, what do you do when you find yourself, or those you care about, going blind? How do you maintain your dignity as well as identity, if you lose a major part of yourself and are no longer able to make that “New Year’s Eve” soup or that Hanukah dinner? And we won’t even bring up grilling on the BBQ! It’s then easy to socially isolate and become depressed because attending any party or social gathering is difficult. In this episode, Angelina Carleton speaks with Debra Erickson, founder of The Blind Kitchen about becoming blind woman as an adult, graduating from culinary school and creating her own cooking show in Oregon (USA)! Debra speaks about useful tools such as ‘talking thermometers’ and ‘long wooden spoons’ in her company website’s library in sharing knowledge that stands the test of time. She also speaks about her legacy vision in answering ‘what if it is permissible to want to leave a legacy?’ Tune in to hear how most individuals who go blind rarely reach out to a support group, even if cooking food is where history and culture are shared!Learn more about Debra and her legacy at https://theblindkitchen.com.-At Legacy Planning©, we work with accomplished entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and family stewards who are ready to turn their success into lasting significance. Our bespoke coaching and advisory practice helps you clarify what truly matters—beyond balance sheets and business exits.
