    Ep. 28 - Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995)

The Heisei Era comes to an end, and just as everything goes out of control! For this episode of 2 Black Guys Talk Godzilla, Aaron and Terence discuss the concluding film of this era, 1995’s Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, directed by Takao Okawara. This powerful entry manages to deliver one of Godzilla’s deadliest threats, his own looming self-destruction, and other means to wrap up this stretch of films. Terence and Aaron have plenty to cover here, including their thoughts on the latest kaiju design, how well this entry balances horror and affecting drama, and how it brings the entire storyline to a close (for now). The Heisei Era finally goes intergalactic this week! For this episode of 2 Black Guys Talk Godzilla, Aaron and Terence dig into the magnificently titled 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, directed by Kensho Yamashita. This busy entry finds Godzilla teamed up with Mothra and MOGUERA to take on an extraterrestrial clone looking to conquer the planet. That’s more than enough for Terence and Aaron to work with as they discuss the kaiju designs, the continuity of this era’s storyline, including the continued presence of Baby G, and just how far this film can push. Plus, the hosts open by reacting to the newly released teaser for Godzilla Minus Zero. Enjoy! This is a public episode. Ep. 26 - Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)

One of our greatest battles between giants over Baby G is about to begin! On this week’s episode of 2 Black Guys Talk Godzilla, Aaron and Terence dig into the oddly titled non-sequel that is 1993’s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, directed by Takao Okawara. Yes, the mechanical monster is back, but completely unrelated to Simians. Instead, we have a G-Force who have built this machine to fight back against the King of the Monsters. With that in mind, Terence and Aaron have plenty to discuss about the return of a couple of popular enemies, the introduction of Baby G, and the continued overlap of story elements in the Heisei Era. Plus, the hosts also enter one of their most heated battles over something introduced into the lore in this film. Enjoy! This is a public episode. On this week’s episode of 2 Black Guys Talk Godzilla, Aaron Neuwirth and Terence Johnson look at 1974’s blend of myth and cosmic destruction in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, from director Jun Fukuda. Ambition was key with this entry, as Toho would introduce one of Godzilla’s most popular adversaries, Mechagodzilla, along with a fun mythical lion-like kaiju, King Caesar, awakened by a highly debated song. Listen to what the guys thought of this film, which they actually watched months ago with an audience at The Frida Cinema, then recorded immediately afterward in their car. Enjoy! Time for kaiju absurdity to truly shine! On this week’s episode of 2 Black Guys Talk Godzilla, Aaron Neuwirth and Terence Johnson look at the famed 1973 camptastic entry Godzilla vs. Megalon, from director Jun Fukuda. Based on distribution rights, this feature became one of the more well-known kaiju films in the U.S., and plenty of gif-related silliness can be found to have originated here. Listen to what the guys thought of this film, how it compares to other Fukuda entries, the joy that is Jet Jagur, thoughts on the climactic battle, and other curiosities such as the various “friendships” depicted. Ep. 14 - Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971)

Time to talk pollution, by way of a kaiju movie! Given the significant shift in style, the film has always been an oddball, praised by some and ignored by others. Having Terence see it for the first time, the guys certainly had big thoughts to get into about how this film could have broken him, what Aaron thinks about the gory destruction on display, and a discussion regarding the legacy of the movie’s director, Banno. With a reminder that Terence largely never knows what he’s getting into with these films, hear what the two have to say about what is often looked upon as one of the worst entries in the series, despite some reevaluation from some over the years. The two discuss the admirable nature of making a kid-friendly movie, but also highlight the apparent limitations on display, as well as the choices made and their impact on this flawed feature. Plus favorite moments, continued thoughts on Minilla, and more. Enjoy! This is a public episode.
