40 "Miserable" Years Later - MUSICAL THEATRE MAGIC

SIÂN REEVES was a part of the original Les Miserables cast. Premiering at the Barbican Theatre, London and then on to the Palace Theatre, London. The Show is still running today alongside SIÂN’s 40 year career. SIÂN is thrilled to have been able to speak to some of her cast, crew and creative members who made such a huge impression on her in her first ever professional job. Playing an original whore and factory worker and understudy to Cosette which she luckily got on to play many times as Rebecca was performing in Glyndbourne. SIÂN went on to play many leads in musicals, her favourites include Maria in West Side Story, Sheila Franklin in Hair. SIÂN is also known for her TV career including BBC1’s Cutting It, Sky’s Mount Pleasant, ITV’s Northern Lights, BBC2’s Land of Plenty and much more including the villainous Sally Spode in ITV’s Emmerdale. Sian talks to John CairdJohn Caird is one half of the dynamite directing team along with Trevor NUNN of the original London production of Les Mis at the Barbican and the Palace and then all over the world in 1985. He is a Stage Director and Writer of plays musicals and operas and an Honorary Associate Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company. His stunning endless energy and ideas in all these areas makes him one of the most exciting Directors and he with Trevor made the most wonderful musical of our time. He is long time principle Guest Director of the Royal Dramatic Theatre Stockholm and author of Theatre Craft, his most recent production is a stage adaption of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away in Tokyo and on tour in the West End at The Coliseum. Other recent work includes a new musical Estella Scrooge in New York and Knights Tale in Japan. He has served on boards of the English National Ballet and Lyric Hammersmith and Tricycle Theatre. Sian talks to Kate Flatt OBEKate did the original musical staging of the show and world wide she has had and still has a forty year career in Opera, Dance and Theatre most notably her Choreography of Turandot has seen more than 22 revivals, it is on DVD and has been screened in cinemas worldwide, it returned to the Royal Opera in 2023 and toured Japan in 2024. Sian talks to Rebecca CaineRebecca was the original Cosette and has carried on performing all over the world, she relocated to open as Christine in Canada in Phantom after playing her in London and has performed many shows in the West End. Her brilliant light soprano voice with that elusive floating top “c” has also given her a massive career in Opera making her debut at Glyndebourne as Amor in L’incoronazione Di Poppea.
