ABC7 Sports: Between the Lines Podcast

Xavier and James discuss the start of spring training on the Suncoast. The Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays are all ready to get things underway. Three of those clubs are looking to build on their playoff bound seasons from 2023, and the Pirates look to make their way in 2024.  The duo also discuss the Cardinal Mooney girls basketball team advancing to the Final 4 of the state playoffs, and much more in this episode.

James and Xavier discuss the retirement of legendary college football head coach, Nick Saban. The duo are joined by a special guest, ABC7 weekend evening anchor and University of Alabama alumna, Michaela Redmond. James and Xavier also discuss Michigan winning the national championship in college football and how one Suncoast native, Jack MacKinnon, a member of the Wolverines helped bring the gold back to Ann Arbor. Xavier and James are back! They're kicking off 2024  by taking a look back at notable sports moments on the Suncoast from 2023 and they preview a look at what they're looking forward to the most for the Suncoast sports world in 2024.

It's unprecedented territory as no other school has ever done this before. The duo also discuss Curt Bradley leaving Braden River for Southeast High School, local collegiate commitments from high school football players, the reclassifications of the districts and Cardinal Mooney's community celebration of their 2023 state championship. 

Xavier and James recap Cardinal Mooney's big state championship win over Trinity Catholic. They also discuss the Venice Indians falling short against Lakeland for a second year in row. Xavier and James discuss the upcoming state championship high school football games for Venice and Cardinal Mooney this week in Tallahassee. They also discuss the World Champions Cup golf tournament happening at the Concession in Bradenton this week. They round things out by giving their thoughts on Florida State being left out of the College Football Playoff.

The duo also discuss Cardinal Mooney and Venice continuing their run in the state playoffs, Jamarice Wilder's decision to decommit from the University of Colorado, and the latest ABC7 Sports Athlete of the Week.

The Bruins are 2-0 and have done so in commanding fashion. It comes as a surprise to many on the Suncoast after the team went 0-9 last year and haven't had a winning season in more than 20 years. Xavier and James also discuss their week of coverage with Hurricane Idalia and the storms impact on the area and the state.
