-
21
Ep. 18: All Hour Cymbals - Yeasayer (Pt. 2)
The second half of the album feels more contemplative, trance-like, almost shoegaze-y at times, compared to the first half which was borderline dance music. Not a criticism as much as an observation. The album as a whole is very well-rounded, very unique, and unquestionably a must-listen.
-
20
Ep. 17: All Hour Cymbals - Yeasayer (Pt. 1)
Troy's turn this week. What's the opposite of a Naysayer?... Yeasayer! What's the opposite of a boring album? Yeasayer's All Hour Cymbals, a funky Middle Eastern-ish psych pop album with spectacular bass lines and powerful polyrhythmic percussion.

Ryan and Troy dive deeper into the second half of the album, picking apart the messages and meaning behind the story that drives the concept. It's a dark but delightful insight into the band's creative process. The musicianship is second to none, and the composition is in a world of it's own. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala are genuine creative geniuses.

Ep. 9: V is for Vagina - Puscifer (Pt. 1)
This week Troy and Ryan explore the debut album of Maynard James Keenan's eccentric side project, Puscifer. After 15+ years of serious music with highly acclaimed bands Tool and A Perfect Circle, Puscifer's V is for Vagina showcases Maynard's whimsical side, experimenting with ambient, industrial, trip-hop, and electronic sounds while playing around with comically brilliant lyrics defined by sexy sacrilegious themes, headlined with bassy vocal expressions. Troy also gains insight, realizing he's completely misinterpreted the name of the band since he started listening to Puscifer way back in the late 2000s (Pussy/Pacifier? Oh, Lucifer!? That makes more sense). We'll see you on the other side of this "Vagina Mine"!!

The album (and live performance) showcases an incredible group of multi-instrumentalists playing a ridiculously eclectic mix of genres, with lyrics in more than a few different languages. In the end, if we could only use one word to sum up How It Ends, it would be: fun. Crazy good fun.
-

Ep. 6: How It Ends - DeVotchKa (Pt. 1)

Ep. 5: The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me - Brand New (Pt. 1)
Troy brings one of his Top 10 favorite albums of all time to Ryan for this week's show.Brand New stepped way outside their original genre with the band's third studio album,The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me, released in 2006. The album's lyrical themes deal with complex philosophical concepts and highly thought-provoking prompts on death and existence as part of the human experience. The instrumentation is highlighted with extreme swings in intensity and volatile dynamic swells throughout the album. It's highly emotional, but far from emo. Enjoy the sonic journey!
