    Ep.74. Why I don't teach songs

Send us Fan MailIn this short solo episode, I break down why I’ve stopped teaching songs as the core of my guitar lessons. Songs are great — but they’re only one element of learning guitar. Over the years, I’ve seen too many intermediate players who can memorise riffs yet struggle with the fundamentals that actually make someone a musician: rhythm, timing, ear training, and transcription.I explain why relying on song-based learning creates big gaps, how it holds players back in the long run, and what skills you should focus on instead if you want real, long-lasting improvement. If you’ve ever felt stuck on guitar despite “learning songs,” this episode will help you understand why — and how to fix it.Support the showFollow me Instagram @timloveguitarYoutube @timloveguitar Website is here

During a six-year stint touring as a member of Norah Jones' Handsome Band, Levy went round the world several times and maxed out the pages of his passport and then a second one with country stamps and visas. He first played with Jones at the very beginning of the singer's career and went on to be the featured electric guitarist on her wildly successful first three albums and DVDs. Levy held the enviable gig through 2007, ultimately leaving to follow his own path as a performing songwriter.Support the showFollow me Instagram @timloveguitarYoutube @timloveguitar Website is here
