Easter Thrillers and First Coaching Casualty

It’s a milestone moment for Amateur Hour, ticking off 1000 downloads, and Jack and Bec are back to celebrate the only way they know how: talking plenty of footy and a bit of everything in between. The life updates are flowing, with Bec counting down the days until pre-season kicks off for her 2026 AFLW campaign, while the duo reflect on the reaction to Jack’s big announcement from last episode. Then it’s into the thick of it. A massive few weeks across both codes sees the first coaching casualty of the NRL season, a cracking Easter round full of nail-biters, and another successful Gather Round lighting up Adelaide in the AFL. AFLW also gets its moment in the spotlight, with discussion around upcoming men’s and women’s double headers in August, plus a very wordy press release around a potential International Rules concept which didn't actually say that much. This month’s Third Person In segment delivers one of the most thoughtful listener questions yet, before its balls to the wall.. or chopping board more like it in 'Tell Me Something I haven't thought about lately.' And of course, the amateurs wrap it all up the only way they can, throwing out their latest predictions for the weeks ahead.Credit to the third party audio we used: sitcomespecials0016 (5:31).

Bec shares the highlights from her recent wedding and Tassie honeymoon, while Jack opens up about Australia’s growing gambling problem, an issue that hits close to home for him. From there, it’s straight into the footy. The duo run their eye over the early stages of the 2026 season across both codes, diving into the biggest headlines so far, including Alex Johnston’s historic record-breaking try that sparked a mass pitch invasion. Then the attention flips to the AFL, where Jack and Bec debate whether Opening Round is here to stay. There’s also a listener question in this month’s Third Person In segment, while Jack casts our minds back to a time when a club handed out a truly bizarre punishment to a player who stepped out of line. And, of course, the episode wouldn’t be complete without Jack and Bec gazing into their crystal balls and serving up their predictions for the month ahead.Credit to the third party audio we used: sitcomespecials0016 (20:11), NRL (21:29), SEN Twitter (42:11), Stake_Gambler_Pro (57:32).

But this episode? It’s full crystal-ball territory for 2026 — and Bec, in particular, has come out swinging.Tell Me Something I Haven’t Thought About Lately – the nostalgia corner, where the pair dig up sporting moments you forgot you even knew. The big question: can they dodge the dreaded second-season syndrome and keep their podcast form trending upward? Or will they spray it out on the full? There’s only one way to find out. Tune in now.Credit to the third party audio we used: Stake_Gambler_Pro (9:37), sitcomespecials0016 (10:54), funzeye (37:03).

From there, it’s Grand Final galore as the duo dive into the NRLW decider, where the Broncos toppled the previously undefeated Roosters… though not without a very questionable try. Then, it’s over to the men’s NRL Grand Final, and what might’ve been one of the most complete individual performances ever from Reece Walsh. With Melbourne falling short in back-to-back deciders, Jack and Bec ask: where to next for the Storm? The pair also reveal their top three moments from the 2025 NRL season, before dishing out their biggest flops and surprise packages across both AFL and NRL men’s comps. Footy Finals Fever

To round things out, Jack unloads on the bunker in what might be his most controlled rant yet.Credit to the third party audio we used: Netball Victoria | Melbourne Vixens (3:55), FOX SPORTS AUSTRALIA (4:28), Roo-king YouTube channel (32:08), Best of Movie Clips (43:21), SPECTRO 9 (48:02).

52 Games in the Making & 17 Teams Graded

It’s an away game for Bec this week as she heads Northside to Coburg, God's country, where Jack resides. The big talking point? Richmond’s AFLW Round 1 clash. The Tigers didn’t get the W, but Bec hit a career milestone - slotting not one, but TWO goals for the very first time in her 52-game career. From fullback to full forward, the unlikeliest of scorers found the sticks in the unlikeliest of ways, and she takes us inside what it felt like out on the ground and the cheeky line she delivered in the three quart time huddle. Plus, a roaming 'JA' conducts a post mortem with fans after the match. With September looming, Jack and Bec turn their sights to the finals race across both codes - who’s pushing for the top 4 and who’s scrapping into the 8. Before pulling out the report cards and handing down a pass or fail grade to the teams already ruled out of finals contention. And because it’s Amateur Hour, bias is not only allowed but encouraged. That means a little bit of extra airtime for the mighty Penrith Panthers and Sydney Roosters.Credit to the third party audio we used: Richmond W Twitter (1:55), Mashd N Kutcher (19:14), Roo-king YouTube channel (25:45).

Slippery Balls and big State of Origin Calls

A historic moment in Amateur Hour history, we kick off with our first ever fan question and it’s a slippery one (literally). Jack and Bec also marvel at the tight NRL ladder, spotlighting the rise of the Canberra Raiders, before Jack delivers a heartfelt plea for the NRL to lift its game when it comes to getting fans through the gates. Then it’s back to expansion talk. With Mal Meninga freshly announced as head coach of the Perth Bears ahead of their 2027 debut, but the question is: does Mal have enough aura for the job? Meanwhile, the AFL's 19th team sits delicately poised, as Tasmania’s team is rocked by political unrest. There’s plenty to cover, and as always, plenty of opinions from your favourite footy nuffies.Credit to the third party audio we used: National Rugby League (23:45), ABC Sport (31:22).

Two Codes, One Day: Remembering our Anzacs

With over a month of footy now in the books, Jack and Bec run their eye over both the AFL and NRL ladders and spotlight the teams catching everyone's attention, some in a good way and others in a not so good way. This week’s episode also reflects on the significance of Anzac Round. It is Bec's favourite day of the year by a country mile because it's an event unlike any other on the calendar with its powerful blend of commemoration, national pride and service with a side of sport. From there, Jack and Bec dive into the Lachie Galvin contract saga at the Wests Tigers, before pondering if some of the golden oldies across both codes are secretly on a Benjamin Button program as they seem to be defying time and getting better every year. To wrap things up, they give you their tips for the traditional AFL and NRL Anzac Day clashes, and Jack has a bonus tip for anyone spinning coins in a game of Two Up this Anzac Day.Credit to the third party audio we used: Collingwood Football Club (16:37), National Rugby League (15:21), Fox League (31:38).

After years in the cellar, are their long-suffering fans finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel?Jack takes a deep dive into Ricky Stuart’s coaching style: is his old-school intensity helping or hurting the Raiders, and is that what’s keeping him from being mentioned in the same echelon as Wayne Bennett, Craig Bellamy and Trent Robinson?
