These two songs explore the gap between electronic synthesis and organic percussion. Using a harp, a 1980s Russian analog synthesizer, and hand-drums recorded in the subway systems of New York, bad tuner hoped to combine human nature (imperfection) and electronic music programming (repetition). ORiZIA/CAMERO is a careful examination of the relationship between prose and acoustics. In collaboration with Japanese poet Yagawa Akiko, bad tuner recorded ORiZIA by sending his drum and synthesizer patterns across the pacific via quadraphonic AM transmission. The song was then dissected for its subcarriers and resonant frequencies in relationship to Akiko’s body's frequency (using Tainio Technology). CAMERO, the second song on the release, is an exploration of percussion and rhythmic deviation from the metric structure.
