How shady, you ask?    Let's see. He dates a prostitute. He breaks nearly every law. He does ALL the drugs. There's nothing that will get in his way and nothing he won't smoke (except cigarettes — go figure) to help close the case. So does that, technically, make him a good cop with some bad habits? This week, Bucky’s Basement dusts off another Casting Cage episode with 2007’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets, a sequel that proves American history has even more secret compartments than previously disclosed. Nic Cage returns as Benjamin Gates, this time chasing the mythical City of Gold, Cibola, while reuniting with his whiny daddy (Jon Voight), his ex (Diane Kruger), his trusty sidekick (Justin Bartha), and racing against a lazy treasure hunting Ed Harris. Add in Helen Mirren as Cage’s hot mom as a bonus.   We unpack granddaddy-vs-granddaddy dynamics, questionable treasure hunting ethics, and the glossy, carbon-copy soul of late-2000s Hollywood blockbusters. Ever wonder what the Founding Fathers did in their spare time? Yeah, us neither. But Nic Cage sure does in the 2004 blockbuster (?) National Treasure! Have you seen it? Yeah? And did you love it?? Yeah??? Hold on, we're going to guess how old you are....   This is one of Nic Cage's most well known movies. It's a Disney flick. It focuses on conspiracy theories, long lost treasure, and American History. Starring Sean Bean, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel, and the dude who's in the Hangover that's hardly in the Hangover. On this week's Casting Cage episode, the guy's review 2003's Matchstick Men.  You've seen it, right? Ridley Scott flick, believe it or not. Yeah, Sam Rockwell is in it, too. It got 7.3/10 on IMDB and has a 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes...you sure you haven't seen it? No? Hmm. Well, neither had we, actually. Bucky's Basement presents a unique episode of Casting Cage this week, where we review a film directed by Nicolas Cage: 2002's "Sonny" (Cage does cast himself an interesting minor role, one Acid Yellow, which we delve into). This film stars James Franco as the titular Sonny, a male prostitute in 1980's (?) New Orleans, pimped out by his mother, Jewel (played by Brenda Blethyn). There is a lot to unpack here.    Why is it so hard to determine what decade this movie takes place in? Why does Sonny have a problem with someone sipping sizzerp? Why Sonny's clients trying to stiff him when he did such a good job with the (ahem) stiffing? And who got "Helen Hunted" in that fiery car explosion from the trailer?
