Campaign for Grade-Level Reading

At the beginning of this year, few if any of us could have predicted just how much would happen in the first 100 days of the new administration. During the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading’s (CGLR) April 22, 2025 GLR Learning Tuesdays session, CGLR Executive Fellow John Gomperts moderated a conversation with panelists — Jean-Claude Brizard, Digital Promise; Denise Forte, The Education Trust; Kevin Huffman, Accelerate; Robin Lake, Center on Reinventing Public Education; and Michael Petrilli, Thomas B. Fordham Institute — as they sought to sift through the policy noise, clarify what matters most, and stay grounded in our shared mission: improving learning conditions and outcomes for children in economically fragile and historically marginalized communities.  After a robust and engaging conversation that explored some of the surprising — and in many cases concerning — actions taken or suggested by the administration, panelists closed with a mix of hope, concern, and vigilance. This conversation builds on a webinar hosted at the beginning of the year when Gomperts engaged Brizard, Forte, Huffman, and Petrilli in a discussion about what education policy changes might occur under the new administration.
