Photosynthesis: Know, Grow and Glow
In the lecture series “CAS Showcase”, LMU scientists and researchers talk about the state of the art in their discipline. | Dario Leister is Professor of Plant Molecular Biology at LMU. His research focuses on photosynthesis and its interaction and integration with other cell processes inside and outside the chloroplasts. He is also interested in acclimatory networks in plant cells. The aim of his research is to be able to change the adaptation of plants under natural conditions. In 2019, he was awarded an ERC Synergy grant. | Ekkehard Neuhaus is Professor of Plant Physiology at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau. His research focuses on energy and sugar transport in plant cells and bacteria. Leister and Neuhaus are spokespersons of the Transregio 175 “The Green Hub – Central Coordinator of Acclimation in Plants”.

CAS Showcase: Asthma and Allergy
Erika von Mutius is one of the leading experts in the field of the development of asthma and allergic diseases in childhood. She played a decisive role in coining the hygiene hypothesis, according to which the immune system must be trained in early childhood in order to be protected against asthma and allergies. In large-scale epidemiological studies, she was able to show that children who live on a farm are less susceptible to allergies and asthma than children from the city. For her research, Erika von Mutius received, among others, the Leibniz Prize of the DFG and the Bundesverdienstkreuz. | Erika von Mutius is Professor of Pediatric Allergology at the LMU and Director of the Institute for Asthma and Allergy Prevention (IAP) at Helmholtz Zentrum München. | Jonathan Grigg is Professor of Pediatric Respiratory and Environmental Medicine at Queen Mary University London.
