Alpha Whorl
Piano-centered, some ideas swirling around, quickly recorded, over three days when there was a moment of energy, last minute. Exploring a new instrument. Single track recordings, except Epsilon (2 tracks). The Delta tracks, though still piano based, take a bit of a turn, as delta seems wont to do. With the global grief of the pandemic, combined with personal grief, I haven't been able to focus as much as I'd like to deeply develop new music. In the meanwhile, I occasionally throw together a rough experiment, such as this Piano Whorl Experiment. I need to be playing the piano more, anyways. The new Soundpaint combined with an aim to release something new this month pushed to me to write and record this week in between reviewing music & submitting votes, client work, and a bevy of game audio events that appeared this week. Instrumentation and tools used: Fandrich & Sons 130V piano with Moog PianoBar and Sequential Prophet XL as dual controllers connected via CME Pro WIDI Master (MIDI over Bluetooth) and Blokas midihub. Soundpaint 1928 Steinway (4-part layered piano patch with multiple delays). Apple Logic, iZotope Ozone 9, Fabfilter Pro Q, MeterPlugs, ujam Finisher Dynamo (Delta & Delta Whorl Shimmer), Plogue chipsynth OPS7 (Epsilon Whorl).

Unplanned Intro for D
More electronic than piano. Quick recording with processed piano (Pianoteq 7), ARP 2600 (emulated by @user-10892243 Cherry Audio CA2600), and minor percussion plus @PluginGuru Unify, @cableguys ShaperBox 2, @ujam-instruments Finisher Retro & GM One. @iZotopeInc Ozone 9. Recorded for my brother, whether he likes it or not.

Spinning in Space (Ethereal Edit)
The “Spinning in Space” songs were recorded for Song-A-Day 2021. An exploration of using a simple sound source, pitched and modulated to create complexity. Then, using additional manipulation to create four different versions from that initial track. All recordings except Stuck Pipes Edit were a single track. Music composed and performed by Jeff Kellem. Mastered by Jeff Kellem. Photography and Artwork by Jeff Kellem. Typefaces used: Filmotype Gemini and 1403 Vintage Mono Pro, designed by Jeff Kellem.

Waiting to Take Off
Piano improvisation, inspired by mention of Ground Control by Jonathan Aronson. For day 1 of Song-A-Day 2021. Quick room noise cleanup with iZotope RX. Piano mics weren't set up so cheap mic set behind the chair, picking up rustling. https://songaday.netscrap.com/

Lightning Storm
Improvised, single track, single take, played on a @Sequential_llc Pro 3 SE monophonic synth with a little bit of @ujam-instruments Finisher NEO effects (single setting) and @iZotopeInc RX 8. Created for a private timelapse video of a crazy lightning storm on 16 August 2020. Took 980 3–second snippets of lightning(49 minutes) from a 4–hour period and sped things up by 12–14x to get it down under 4 minutes. Wanted some harshness mixed in with the storm visual. The end of the video included a rainbow forming. #RX8 adjustments included removing clicks (that I originally left in since it felt right with the storm video), tiny fade-in, and cleaning up a hint of electrical noise. No other adjustments.

Peace and Love (7 July 2020)
A snippet for #PeaceAndLove created on my piano right before noon PDT (UTC-7) on 7 July 2020. Inspired by the desire of Ringo Starr for everyone to send a message of peace & love on his 80th birthday. Happy birthday, Ringo! Day was full so I didn't get to post at noon, but finally managed to put the recording together. Recorded my lovely #FandrichAndSons piano on an iPhone X (mono mic) in a noisy room. @izotopeinc RX 7 for dealing with that. A little @ujam-instruments FIN-NEO Space Station very quickly added with a bit of parameter adjustment. Ringo's Big Birthday Show has info on how to donate to #BlackLivesMatter, the #DavidLynchFoundation, #MusiCares, and #WaterAid. A Bit of Light while Struggling
A random bit of piano playing on my Fandrich and Sons 130V 51" piano. No idea what I was going to play when I started. My fingers wandered off at times but I decided to keep it, as is, instead of recording a new improvisation. Video of the improv as recorded is on Instagram IGTV: https://www.instagram.com/tv/B-tmbq7BqEl/ Simply recorded with the Apple iPhone mic. And some quick room noise adjustment with @izotopeinc RX 7. Quickly brought up levels with minor processing using Ozone 9, though without much review, for the beginning of @flommus https://soundcloud.com/flommus/radio-flomm-brokenspring podcast.
