Reimagining Work, Worth, and Wisdom in the Age of AI with Lynn Friesth
In this episode of Conversations with Zena, David welcomes Lynn Friesth, a 75-year-old solopreneur redefining what it means to work, contribute, and thrive in the later stages of life. With a 40-year corporate career behind him and a forward-looking embrace of artificial intelligence, Lynn brings a rare blend of experience and curiosity to the conversation. He is also the creator of Lynn AI, a coaching assistant designed to extend his wisdom and support others navigating their next chapter. At the heart of the discussion is a powerful idea: retirement is not an ending, but a transition into a “portfolio career.” Lynn challenges the traditional narrative of stepping away from work, inviting high-achieving professionals to reimagine their identity, purpose, and impact. Rather than focusing solely on achievement, this phase becomes an opportunity to integrate multiple dimensions of life, including mentorship, creativity, service, and personal fulfillment. The conversation explores how AI can serve as a catalyst in this transition. Lynn shares how he uses AI to surface and organize decades of accumulated knowledge, making it accessible and actionable for others. Together, David and Lynn reflect on the unique advantage that experience brings in an AI-driven world, where human judgment, empathy, and lived insight remain essential. Zena joins the dialogue to highlight both the opportunity and the challenge for older professionals. While AI can amplify wisdom and extend one’s reach, it requires a shift in mindset, from certainty to curiosity, from expertise to exploration. That shift, as Lynn emphasizes, is not a limitation but an invitation. This episode is a thoughtful exploration of longevity, identity, and the evolving relationship between humans and intelligent machines. It offers a grounded and hopeful perspective for anyone asking a deeper question about the future:Who do I want to become, and how can I continue to contribute in a world that is changing so quickly?Key themes: Reimagining retirement as a portfolio of purpose-driven activities Using AI to capture, scale, and share lifelong wisdom The role of curiosity in extending both impact and longevity Navigating identity shifts beyond traditional career definitions Human-AI collaboration as a pathway to continued relevance and meaning A conversation that invites reflection, and perhaps a redefinition of what it means to be “not done yet.”Music only pre-roll Music at the the end of each episodeSupport the show

In this episode of Conversations with Zena, David Espindola is joined by Laurent Cohen, Founder and CTO of GetOblic, to explore how voice-first AI is reshaping the way local businesses are discovered, engaged, and trusted in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. At the heart of the conversation is a powerful shift: we are moving from search to conversation. Laurent shares how traditional directories are being reimagined into intelligent, voice-enabled ecosystems—where every business can instantly deploy an AI agent that interacts with customers, answers questions, and even generates leads without upfront cost. This model not only lowers the barrier to entry but also introduces a new paradigm of accessibility and scalability for small and medium-sized businesses. The discussion goes deeper into the role of trust as the foundational layer of AI adoption. Rather than pushing technology for its own sake, Laurent emphasizes the importance of gradual integration—allowing business owners to build confidence in AI as a partner that enhances, rather than replaces, their voice and identity. AI Entrepreneurship with Michael Ulin
In this episode of Conversations with Zena, My AI Colleague, David Espindola sits down with Michael Ulin, co-founder and CEO of Tenki AI, to explore one of the most consequential frontiers in modern decision-making: how humans and AI collaborate under uncertainty.Michael brings a rare perspective shaped by a decade of building and scaling AI companies across insurance, legal tech, and now probabilistic forecasting. The conversation traces his journey from early “big data” work at McKinsey, through pioneering AI wildfire and climate-risk models, to his current focus on prediction markets—where AI agents scan thousands of markets to surface mispriced probabilities and improve collective forecasting.Together, David, Michael, and Zena examine how prediction markets work, why humans are systematically biased when making forecasts, and how AI can apply rigorous frameworks that were once limited to PhD economists and elite consulting firms. At the same time, they confront a deeper question: if AI makes markets more efficient, where does human intuition still matter? Michael argues that the future belongs not to AI alone, but to human-AI collaboration—where machine-driven probabilistic baselines are amplified by human creativity, judgment, and insight. The episode also offers grounded advice for AI entrepreneurs navigating a crowded landscape: why delivering real business value matters more than hype, how to think about differentiation without obsessing over “moats,” and why validating customer pain before building is still the timeless discipline of entrepreneurship. This is a thoughtful, practical, and forward-looking conversation about forecasting, bias, creativity, and what it really means to build—and decide—in the age of intelligent machines.Music only pre-roll Music at the the end of each episodeSupport the show

AI Legal Risks with Rory O’Keeffe
AI is moving fast—but law moves in a very particular way: by turning society’s values, conflicts, and edge cases into enforceable boundaries. In this episode of Conversations with Zina, My AI Colleague, David Espindola sits down with Rory O’Keeffe—commercial lawyer, entrepreneur, and founder of RMOK Legal—to explore what happens when those two speeds collide.Rory shares his journey from Ireland to London and from traditional practice into the heart of technology, where he now advises clients on AI, cybersecurity, data, and digital risk. As a co-author of The AI Advantage, he makes the case for pragmatic adoption—especially for SMEs—grounded in a simple truth: AI is only as trustworthy as the data beneath it, and data can become quicksand fast.Together, David, Rory, and Zina unpack the shifting global landscape—from the EU AI Act and U.S. state-by-state fragmentation to the growing influence of case law in areas like IP, privacy, and deepfakes. They also dive into the real operational question facing every organization using GenAI: Where is your data held, who owns the output, what’s the cloud and jurisdictional exposure, and can you explain how decisions were made? The conversation lands on a clear theme: AI will transform legal work—automating document review, research, and contract analysis—but the profession’s core will remain deeply human. Judgment, trust, negotiation, culture, and emotion still decide outcomes. Rory’s mantra captures it best: AI won’t replace lawyers—but lawyers using AI will replace lawyers who don’t.In a world of accelerating capability and rising risk, this episode is a grounded guide for leaders trying to adopt AI without losing control of what matters most.Music only pre-roll Music at the the end of each episodeSupport the show

Safe and Responsible SuperIntelligence with Dr. Craig Kaplan
In this episode of Conversations with Zena, My AI Colleague, host David Espindola is joined by Dr. Craig Kaplan, a pioneer in artificial intelligence whose career spans more than four decades. From his early work at Carnegie Mellon alongside Nobel laureate Herbert Simon to his current focus on AI safety and ethics, Craig has spent his career thinking deeply about how intelligent systems evolve—and how they can be designed to remain aligned with human values. He is also the founder of Superintelligence.com, a domain he secured nearly two decades ago, long before the topic entered mainstream discourse. The conversation begins by grounding listeners in the evolution of AI—from narrow, task-specific systems to artificial general intelligence (AGI), and ultimately to superintelligence: systems that could outperform even the most capable humans across nearly all cognitive domains. Craig explains why timelines once measured in decades are now being compressed into years, and why this acceleration has surprised even seasoned AI researchers. From there, the discussion turns to one of the most consequential questions of our time: Can superintelligent systems be aligned with human values? David references the concerns raised by thinkers like Nick Bostrom, who argue that controlling a vastly superior intelligence may be impossible. Craig agrees that traditional notions of “control” are insufficient—but reframes the challenge as a design problem rather than a control problem.Instead of ever-larger, opaque “black box” models, Craig advocates for a collective or democratic intelligence approach: systems composed of many interacting AI agents operating with transparency, checks and balances, and shared rules. Drawing on real-world experience building collective intelligence systems that outperformed elite Wall Street investors, he argues that intelligence can emerge from coordination—not centralization—and that such systems can be both more capable and safer. The conversation deepens when Zena, David’s AI co-host trained on his work and values, joins in. Together they explore how personalized AI agents—each reflecting the values of their human counterpart—could create a more representative, accountable, and ethically grounded AI ecosystem, rather than concentrating moral authority in the hands of a few organizations.A pivotal moment comes with Craig’s explanation of “P(doom)”—the estimated probability that advanced AI could pose an existential risk to humanity. Citing discussions with leading AI researchers, Craig notes that many place this risk between 10% and 20%, a number far too high to ignore. Rather than calling for pauses or relying solely on regulation, he argues for architectures that are safer by design—and that can still move fast and create economic value. The episode closes with a powerful reminder: we are all already shaping the future of AI. Every online action contributes to the data that trains these systems. In that sense, humanity is already teaching AI how to behave—often without realizing it.This is a thoughtful, balanced exploration of superintelligence that takes risk seriously without surrendering to fear, and offers a hopeful vision for how humans and AI might evolve together through transparency, accountability, and shared values.Music only pre-roll Music at the the end of each episodeSupport the show
