Cool Our Jets

Hosted by the brother-sister team of Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg, Cool Our Jets is all about the best team in hockey, the Winnipeg Jets. Our hosts share lighthearted looks and fan takes on where the team is at and where its heading, and occasionally veer off to talk other sports (which somehow is often Figure Skating and Tennis! Not Baseball!), TV and Movies, Food, and the beauty and wonder of the province of Manitoba.

  1. 27

Thread the Needle or Throw the Hip Check

After a long break, brother-sister team Matt and Kirsten are back with a very full Cool Our Jets episode. They catch up on the Winnipeg Jets’ six-game Pacific road trip, the return of key players like Lowry and Samberg, and why the second line continues to be a puzzle despite the brilliance of Jonathan Toews. They dig into Logan Stanley’s surprising turnaround, the ripple effect of getting the lineup healthy again, and how the parity of the NHL is off the hook. Then it’s on to their signature segments, including a new lesson from Professor Pionk, a chaotic round of True North Treasures (in which Kirsten forgets the Winnipeg zoo exists), and a Beyond the Rink tour through the World Series, the Grey Cup in Winnipeg, and whether they would rather see England win the World Cup in July or the Jets hoist the Stanley Cup in June.A little hockey, a little life advice, a little Winnipeg tourism — and as always, plenty of sibling banter. Enjoy Episode Three!

  2. 26

    And the Season is Underway!

Brother-sister team, Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg break down the Winnipeg Jets season opener, share some very deep “lessons with professor Pionk” and have a whole discussion on which theme music goes with professorship (should it be Harry Potter). We get into how great it was to see Toews, Kyle Connor’s hat-trick (please score 3 in every game!), and how we really wanted to be positive about Stanley but, well… I guess we’ll see on that front.

  3. 25

    Retooling for the Coming Season

The only Brother-Sister Hockey podcasting team in the world, Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg, are back. They retool the show with new segments, including "True North Treasures" and "Lessons With Professor Pionk," and, of course, talk all about the Winnipeg Jets offseason... and Jonathan Toews!!!! Is he Batman? Is he the Jets Saviour? Get reading for another season of Jets Hockey, and Cool Our Jets!

  4. 24

    2025 Winnipeg Jets Playoff Retrospective

Brother-sister team, Kirsten Schellenberg and Matthew Brough, give a detailed, player by player analysis of the 2025 Winnipeg Jets Playoff run. It is an epic episode to wrap up this phenomenal season. Yes, we are sad to see the Jets not make it past the second round, but we will forever be Jets fans. Go Jets Go!

  5. 23

    Game Seven Miracle

Brother-sister team, Kirsten Schellenberg and Matthew Brough, don't even know what to say (for an hour!) after the history making come-back victory of our beloved Winnipeg Jets, as they beat St. Louis in game 7 of the first round of the playoffs.

  6. 22

Playoffs Are Here and We Are Pumped!

What a season! The only brother-sister hosted sports fan podcast in the world is back with a review of the Winnipeg Jets' presidents trophy winning season. After their first 2 playoff games, the Jets are looking good. We talk which Jets are standing out for good and bad, our amazing goaltending, the pressure of the White Out but how awesome Winnipeg fans are, and our recent holidays to Europe and Mexico.

  7. 21

    Trade Deadline And Ohhhh Canada!

The only brother-sister sports podcast in the world is back with all the Winnipeg Jets talk you could want. We analyze the latest acquisitions, the four nations tournament, and do a new segment about how much we love Canada. 2 minutes for B-Roughing goes to… well… you’ll need to listen to find out who gets this prestigious award. Hint: it’s not Jordan Binnington or Mitch Marner.

  8. 20

    Mid Season Report Card

The only brother-sister team that hosts a Hockey Fan podcast of Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg are at it again. In this luckiest episode (because it's episode 5, and y'know, Star Wars!), we give a rating to every Jets player, we award 2 minutes for BRoughing (in the not good sense) to a certain blueliner (one guess as to who!), and in talking about food we manage to say the word Lamb about a hundred times. This is thrilling podcasting, people!

  9. 19

    Look Back and Looking Ahead

Matt and Kirsten get reflective in this first episode of 2025. What were the greatest sports moments of the last year? Where were the Winnipeg Jets this time last year vs now and does it matter? Will Kirsten and Matt’s words of the year be the same again? What do the Jets need to do down the stretch to be a playoff success? And… 2 Minutes for BRoughing goes to a certain centre who was not picked for Team Canada for the “made-up” tournament.

  10. 18

The Curse of Podcasting During a Jets Game

Brother-sister hosts, Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg podcast between periods again and the Winnipeg Jets lose AGAIN! Is it a curse? Should they stop recording during games? Should they stop entirely? They give love to Paul Maurice, but not so much to Vlad Namestnikov, and they touch on the demise of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the losing streak of Manchester City. But, still, this episode is mostly about how amazing the Winnipeg Jets are this season. Oh, and there's some conversation about about food, of course. Go Jets Go!

  11. 17

Leafs Break the Jets Win Streak and Prime Goes Berzerk

Brother-sister hosts, Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg watch the Jets vs. Leafs game and discuss their dislike for the Leafs, and also baseball, spitting in sports, and celery. The game was on Amazon Prime which was already weird enough and then the audio feed went berserk. 2 Minutes for Broughing goes to a Jets defenseman who was a -6 in the loss against Toronto. Yikes!

  12. 16

    Getting Controversial

The only brother-sister sports podcast (we don't actually know if this is true!) is back for a second season! Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg decide that maybe they were too nice last season and that its time to be more controversial. We get into Stanley Cup conspiracy theories, call some players out, show that we are useless at simple math, and maybe that we should prepare a little more (by doing easy things like looking up the Winnipeg Jets lines, for example) before hitting the record button! And - we announce our YouTube channel and give out our first 2 minutes for (B)Roughing.

  13. 15

    Where Did We Go?

The brother-sister sports commentary and comedy (well, we think we're funny, anyway!) duo are back! The last time we put out an episode the Winnipeg Jets were still in the playoffs. Where have we been? Basically, in a pit of despair, with the Jets losing, and the Bombers brutal start to their season, and the England Men's soccer team making another final but playing terrible to get there. Still, there are some bright spots. Our mood spurred on by Paul Maurice's post-Stanley Cup win speech about his only wish being that Winnipeg can win the cup next year and the Canadian Men's soccer team's performance at the Copa America, we look at the Olympics, and the sports we are most excited to watch. And we broach the biggest controversy of all - is breakdancing a sport?

  14. 14

    White Out Pressure

The brother-sister team of Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg are back to talk playoff hockey and the Winnipeg Jets. Recorded right before the Jets played game 4 of their series against the Colorado Avalanche, but released after the game, find out if our predictions are completely moronic. We talk about whether the Winnipeg White Out Adds pressure, our experiences of attending game 1 and game 2, our undying loyalty to the Jets regardless of of what happens, the play of Connor Hellebuyck (and everyone else), what is going wrong in the playoffs, our love of Adam Lowry (give him athlete of the Fortnight just for his amazing play in game 1!), and we make up nicknames for the final 2 Jets on our list - Kupari and Hellebuyck.

  15. 13

Interview with Anthem Singer Stacey Nattrass

Hosts Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg talk to Winnipeg Jets own Stacey Nattrass, and she tells some great stories of her time as THE staple anthem singer for the Jets and the Moose. We continue our "brushes with fame" segment with Kirsten's time she met Brian Mulroney and Matt's time he met the guy who played Lex Luther in Smallville. The nicknames we gave to Gabriel Vilardi and Nate Schmidt, were so good that we tried to go for a third nickname but epically failed. We obviously talk about the coming playoffs (now that the Jets have clinched!). Athlete of the fortnight of course goes to Caitlin Clark. And somehow, we also managed to spend an inordinate amount of time talking about the strange prevalence of spleen injuries.

  16. 12

One Cool Organist - An Interview with Chris Eccles

Hosts Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg have an amazing conversation with the organist for the Winnipeg Jets, Chris Eccles. We start a new "brushes with fame" segment, give a new nickname to one of the Jets and finally give one to Mark Scheiffele, talk about the trade deadline deals, and almost manage to go an entire episode without talking about food.

  17. 11

    Guess the Goal Song!

Matt and Kirsten make a big announcement about upcoming "musical" guests for the podcast and Matt tries to guess the goal songs of players. They discuss the ups and downs of the recent play of the Winnipeg Jets, the impact of Sean Monahan, the rejuvenated power play, Vilardi’s versatility, Lowry’s leadership, and movies about food. Athlete of the Fortnight goes to Jennifer Jones and nicknames are given to Rasmus Kupari and Logan Stanley.

  18. 10

    The Monahan Effect

Izac Silagy joins the brother sister hosts Matt Brough and Kirsten Schellenberg to talk about the impact of the deal made during the All Star break to bring Sean Monahan to Winnipeg. And we give him a nickname. Why not! We give one to Laurent Brossoit too, while our Athlete of the Fortnight is a new Blue Bomber signing. We look ahead to the second half of the Jets season, make suggestions for improving the All-Star weekend (or maybe just don't have it?), and also talk about Star Wars and weird desserts.

  19. 9

    All Hail Connor!

Kyle Connor is back from injury and looking good, Connor Hellebuyck has been brilliant this season. Kirsten Schellenberg and Matt Brough talk about whether this winning season is any different than what happened last season, the continuing power play and penalty kill woes, how key Mark Scheifele is, and the high percentage of hockey players that have the name "Connor" or "Dylan" in them. They also show their ignorance of the NFL playoffs, discuss the acting ability of Kevin Costner and also what skating was like when they were kids, Kirsten asks a philosophical question, and they give nicknames to Cole Perfetti and Dylan Samberg.

  20. 8

The Jets Are on a Roll and So Are We

The Winnipeg Jets are top of the league! Brother/sister hosts, Matt and Kirsten, share their shock at how the Jets have put everything together to be the best team in the NHL as they’re near the midpoint of the season. They’re also shocked by their choices for their personal words of the year. They talk about why the Jets are so good, what they will do when players come back from injury, how to fix the power-play (hint: put Lowry in there—a good solution for everything!), how much they love chocolate, give nicknames to Adam Lowry and Nino Niederreiter, and name Grace Zumwinkle of Minnesota's PWHL's hockey club as the Athlete of the Fortnight.

  21. 7

Five on Five is so Good but what about the PK?

Izac Silagy returns to this seventh episode joining Kirsten Schellenberg and Matt Brough as they discuss the great 5 on 5 play of the Winnipeg Jets, and we wonder together about why their power play and penalty kill can be so bad!?!?! Plus, we talk about Christmas presents, New Years plans, how Beautiful Hawaii is and how weird Las Vegas is, select a new nickname for Axel Jonsson-Fjallby because we decided we didn't like "the doctor," and choose a nickname for Vladislav Namestnikov and our Athlete of the Fortnight selection this time goes to Mark Scheifele. Right off the hop, we also wonder about whether this is the only brother-sister sports podcast. We are pretty sure it is the only brother-sister Winnipeg Jets fan podcast.

  22. 6

    Cool Our Christmas Special

It's the Cool Our Jets Christmas Special! Matt and Kirsten discuss their favourite Christmas foods and songs and movies, the amazing play of the Jets in December, the Kyle Connor injury and whether Storm should have been suspended, Craig Button’s view on the Jets being the deepest Canadian team, how Valardi (Athlete of the Fortnight!) is better than Dubois and Chevy is a genius, why the Jets need to provide better incentives for season ticket holders, crazy ideas to get the crowd going, which one player we would want on the Jets, and they give nicknames to Alex Iafallo, and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby.

  23. 5

Winning Ways and Too Much Turkey

Kirsten and Matt discuss the Jets winning record and excellent play which had them in a great spot by American Thanksgiving, the traditional indicator that you'll make the playoffs. Then, they wonder why American Thanksgiving isn't in October, discuss sports that shouldn't really be sports (People actually Quiddich! You know, from Harry Potter. What?!?), talk briefly about the Blue Bombers losing the Grey Cup but choose a Bomber for the prestigious Athlete of the Fortnight, and pick some fantastic nicknames for David Gustafsson and Neal Pionk.

  24. 4

    Fights and Lounge Seats

Lots of shows have a player of the week, or month, or year - but we have a Player of the Fortnight, and we finally pick a Jet! We get into the great play of the Jets over their 3 game win streak against Arizona, St. Louis, and Nashville, and what has gone right with the Powerplay and Penalty Kill in those games. We talk about Lowry's awesome fights (In our LOW-Down segment), and also how neither of us think fighting should be in hockey. Kirsten shares about her recent experience with having fancy lounge seats at a recent Jets Game. We give very creative nicknames to Nicholaj Ehlers and Josh Morrissey.

  25. 3

Maybe Fred Penner Could Get that Power Play Going!

We return after Kirsten's bout of laryngitis to discuss the cold Jets power play, famous Winnipeggers we think could inspire them, the Halloween game, The greatest Canadian soccer player of all time, and our complete lack of knowledge about the World Series. And we give nicknames to Kyle Connor and Brenden Dillon.

  26. 2

    Home Opener

In our second episode, Kirsten, Matt, and Izac discuss the home opener for the Winnipeg Jets, the big contracts for Sheifele and Hellebuyck, give a nickname to Demelo, and also talk about great sports movies, David Beckham, and how we don't really like Halloween.

  27. 1

    Welcome to Cool Our Jets

The inaugural episode where we talk about all things Winnipeg Jets, but also discuss sports we don't watch, 1990s basketball, who our dream guests would be, pick our athlete of the month, tell some stories about cheese, and come up with some brilliant nicknames for Mason Appleton and Morgan Baron.
