culture of the day
by Marion Garnier
culture of the day is a very niche part of my brain where i explore all the things related to movies, media, and music. sometimes, i even talk/ think about art!this is an outlet for me to be vulnerable, open, excited, passionate, genuine and wholesome - because there is rarely anything purer than someone talking about things they like with their whole being!so welcome, bienvenue - i hope you enjoy it.avec amour, marion x Hosted on Acast. pfeeew... i don't even know where to begin. it has been a wild half a year!i feel i haven't reflected enough in this episode but i was running out of time, but this season has been so special to me! i don't know how to explain it but season one was more of me getting into the podcasting groove, whereas season two has helped come to term with a lot of things, including this latest phase of my life! a lot of thinking, reconfiguring and reconceptualising who i am, what i feel, understanding the changes and the ways everything ebbs and flows. it has been a true pleasure to have you along with me for six months!i love and adore you with everything that i have!with kind and peaceful energy, marion x🂱music - lianne la havas' bittersweet and paper thin (2021) & sabrina carpenter's exhale (2019) & julie delpy's a waltz for a nighttv show - before sunrise (1995), before sunset (2004), before midnight (2013) - starring julie delpy and ethan hawkebook - barbara's il était un piano noir (1998) Hosted on Acast. here we are again, for our third to last episode! i wanted to reflect on my college experience, being done for at least a couple of years...i really loved my experience in college, i was able to discover myself, discover what i liked, made friends i still cherished. college helped me navigate my independance, advocating for myself! i will be forever grateful for everything that i learned, whether i cared for it or not, for all the discovery of myself, my interests starting with my thesis.i hope you're really enjoyed me yapping about my curatorial and art historical interests! with kind and peaceful energy, marion x🂱music - dire strait's in the gallery & little simz ft. obongjayar's point and kill (2021) & sabrina carpenter's all we have is love (2016)tv show - netflix' really love (2020) & grown-ish (2018-2024)book - joana joachim's black feminist curatorial practices in canada (2018) & isabelle boni-claverie's trop noire pour être française (2015) & bell hooks' teaching to transgress (1994) Hosted on Acast. ep. 18 - perspectives
so once again, this episode is a bit late, but i went through a whole reorganisation for my publishing schedule.anyway, we are officially back for the last few episodes, there is not even that much left in the season but i cannot wrap my mind around being done with season 2, which is not even a topic for today.this episode is a beautiful one, coming to term with ymself, my own expectations and my own limitations. i am letting go, making room for the new not in an overly positive way but rather because life waits for no one, and especially after today, being fixated on past encounters truly does not hold anything but a sad pitiful nostalgia!so with kind and peaceful energy, i hope you enjoy this week's episode!marion x🂱music - everything is everything by lauryn hill (1998), vienna by billy joel (1977), and raye's cover of feeling good by nina simone (2024)tv show - a quiet place: day one (2024) starring lupita nyong'o and joseph quinn, featuring nina simone's feeling good (1965)book - paulo coelho's the alchemist (1988) Hosted on Acast. ep. 16 - falling behind
so hi, i have sorta taken a couple of weeks hiatus... it was completely unplanned but at least, now i have planned and recorded episodes!i think i have been feeling my summertime a bit too much and have lost touch with a lot of routines, communication tools and just have been shite with keeping up.but that is okay, cause routines are perpetually ebbing and flowing, and the only constant is that routines will get thrown away and picked up again!so i hope you can still enjoy this episode, albeit a couple weeks late!with loving energy, marion x🂱music - role model's kansas anymore (2024): writing's on the wall, look at that woman, the dinner, deeply still in love, slut era interlude, compromise and something, somehow, somedaytv show or movie - Twisters (2024) starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramosbook - Sanaya Roman's Living With Joy (2011) Hosted on Acast. ep. 9 - cultivating myself
welcome back!today's episode is sort of an update from last week, couple with some reflection i've been having and how i can understand more. i want to be at awe with the world again, raveinous for more knowledge, more experience and more growth. not necessarily in a toxic way rather in using that as a way to show up for myself, to become more because i deserve to be more, i deserve to fulfill the needs i have, the hopes i aspire to.perhaps that will inspire you too, i do hope you enjoyed this episode, it was quite an unexpected gem and i loved how it turned out!with kind and peaceful energy, marion x🂱music - Mexico and Suspendu by Aliocha Schneider (2023)tv show - Starz's Sweetbitter (2017-2018)book - Priya Parker's The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters (2018) Hosted on Acast. ep. 8 - paris, did i miss you...
i am back to you from France!those have been weird times, a lot of adjusting but then also it hasn't been half as bad as i thought it was!i am coming to you with a new episode dabling around the themes of Paris, and as i write, i realise i haven't even described what Paris feels like to me. Paris to me is freedom, is talking overcrowded transportation, which definitely isn't the best but it's meeting up with friends, it's walking on and about in the city, people watching. it's just feeling instantly relieved when i get into the city, it's about cheap drinks. more than that, Paris to me is really feeling like i belong.i hope you enjoy this episode!all my love, marion x🂱music - April in Paris (xx) & Autumn in New York (19xx) by Billie Holliday, Paris by Sabrina Carpenter (2018)special mention of Waltz for the Night by Julie Delpy (2004)tv show - Netflix's Plan Coeur/ The Hookup Plan (2017-2020)book - Raymond Quenaux' Zazie dans le Métro (1959) Hosted on Acast. ep. 7 - dublin, my dearest...
ooh.. this one is going to hurt.this is my love letter to Dublin. a city i have learned to love and which taught so many things like the ephemerality of lifetime's friendhsips, the patience to extend as things rarely turn out the way you want them, when you want them. but also that there is always something new around the corner and so so so much fun to be had! i wish for everyone to feel life making its way to you and finding your own little corner of earth and being content and happy with who you are!so this particular episode i dedicate to my friends, who have made my stay in Dublin the best i could've ever hope for...to Paula, Louisa, Heleen, Elijah, Henry, Ramsford, Tori, Hannah, Lauren, and everyone else; thank you, I love you!all my love, marion x🂱music - More by Dylan Flynn & the Dead Poets (2013), De Selby Pt 1 by Hozier (2023)special mention for Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran (2018)tv show - RTÉ's Normal People (2020)book - Sally Rooney's Conversation with Friends (2017) Hosted on Acast. ep. 5 - loving friendships
wooooh! this one is a long one!but it was only fitting seeing that i hosted my first ever guest on the podcast!Mabinty is my oldest friend and the closest too. like we talk about in the podcast, our love and friendship really informs and infuses the way we interact with other people (whether friends, lover or even family). i just think that in the society we live in friendships inform so much of the way behave, interact and grow as human being; discussions that I've had before with Mabinty and thought it only fair to share it with you.this one is definitely a bit different and longer than usual, but I hope you hold space to receive it!all my love, marion xPS - excuse all the weird sounds going on, we're not STEM girlies!🂱music - Nothing We Can't Get Through by Gareth Donkin (2023) and Till Forever Falls Apart by Ashe and Finneas (2021)tv show/ movie - Netflix' She's Gotta Have It (2017-2019) and Bottoms (2023)book - R.F Kuang's Babel (2022) Hosted on Acast. ep. 4 - grief in all forms
this episode is definitely a more calm and significant one. if it's too much please feel free to skip it, next week's episode will be not be as "dark".it felt really nice to record, very calm and allowed me to truly give thoughts to the behavior i exhibited when i was burdened with grief in 2019.i hope those songs, shows, movie and book can help you whenever you found yourself grieving next (unfortunately, it is always a question of when).thank you for letting me take this space to talk about such a sad subject, and also per usual make it a reflection on how beautiful life is and how precious our moments on earth are!all my love, marion x🂱music - I Found by Amber Run (2015), What Am I Here For? by Jade Bird (2017), listen before i go and ilomilo by Billie Eilish (2019)special mention for Don't Forget About Me by Cloves (2016)tv show - Netflix' One Day (2024), Apple TV's Shrinking (2023) and Me Before You (2016).book - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Notes on Grief (2021) Hosted on Acast. ep. 3 - changes, changes and (more) changes
this one is so bittersweet. navigating how much i've overcome and the growth i've displayed over the course of 2 years really soothed my heart!i really did not have this conclusion in mind when i first started writing, but at the end it became so obvious. the power that i hold, that we all hold and just the potential of it all.i hope this episode ignited something in you, that you discovered a bit more about yourself while introspecting, that you feel like you're in a place to sincerely loving yourself or just thzt you liked the music i presented to you! regardless, this episode will always be special!hope you have a great week!marion x🂱music - margaux beylier's messy (and cover of mystery of love - 2023 and 2020), still woozy's shotput (2024) and cooks (2017), and jasmini's absinthe & OJ (2024)tv show - netflix' everyhting now (2023)book - andre aciman's find me (2021) Hosted on Acast. ep. 10 - all about art..?
here we are... the last episode of season 1!thank you so much for tuning in, taking the time, and following and listening to what I had to say over the past 11 weeks. it truly means so much that this little project of mine was cherished and celebrated by people and that my suggestions were taken into account! you guys are legends!through this time, I have stepped in and out of my groove; I have been messy and rambling, and it has been one of the best feelings - to have room to express myself about things I care about simply has been magnificent!being an art history student, it was only fair that for this last episode, I talked a bit about art. here's a very condensed, very (unfortunately) Western rundown of art history through its styles (or movement, whatever you decide to call it) and its approaches (or methods - scholars still disagree about that!) - I hope you enjoy it!so until next season, and to new intros, music, themes and messiness!from the bottom of my heart and all the love in the world, marion xx🂱music - Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa by Finneas (2022), Mona Lisa by Sabria Carpenter (2018) and C'est Magnifique by Melodie Gardot ft. ep. 9 - being celebrated & holding space for yourself
hello, my lovely people, i hope you are all doing well and embracing December full-on. i know I did!today's episode is about being cherished, loved, and cared for -all falling under the umbrella of being celebrated. something I have struggled with over the past couple of years.but in honour of my birthday and letting people love me and verbalise it, I have dedicated this episode to being celebrated. like I mentioned it in the episode, that can mean so many different things, from dancing in the kitchen and feeling good to being praised and appreciated by people around you - celebration comes from within and is/ should always be emphasised by everything else.so here's to this season's second to last episode; thank you for staying with me thus far!yours, marion xxPS - as you probably figured whilst listening to this episode, it was meant to be posted yesterday - but listen,,, I was caught in the celebration!🂱music - Talk Too Much by Renee Rapp (2023), Billie Bossa Nova by Billie Eilish (2021), Leave Me Feeling Confident by the Driver Era (2021), Sister Rosetta by Noisettes (2011), Can't Catch Me Now by Olivia Rodrigo (2023), Diamonds are Forever by Sabrina Carpenter (2018), What a Difference She Made by Jalen Ngonda (2022), Gemini Moon by Renee Rapp (2023), My Future by Billie Eilish (2021)TV show - Amazon Prime's Sitting in Bars with Cake (2023)book - John Green's The Anthropocene Reviewed (2021) Hosted on Acast. ep. 8 - my messiness in all its splendor
grab a glass of wine, and join me for a very intimate, very late-night vibe episode!in this one, it's a bit all over the place but ended up falling under themes of living life fully and intimacy (in whatever forms it comes) with others - which tbh are themes that i cycle back to a lot!but anyway, this episode is very dear to me, i had a fun time recording it, listening to the music and reading from the boos - i hope you enjoy it. pleins de bisous, marion xx🂱music - Feel Real by Deptford Goth (2000), Lavender Kiss by the Kicks - Live in Los Angeles (2019), Never Be Yours by Zoe Love Smith (2018), Let Me Sign by Robert Pattinson (2008) & Cellophane by FKA Twigs (2019), Is It Any Wonder by Durand Jones & the Indications (2016)tv show/ movie - Sam Mendes' Away We Go (2009) and Jim Jarmusch's Paterson (2016)book - Jenny Slates' Little Weirds (2019) and Eve Babitz's Sex & Rage (2017) Hosted on Acast. today's episode is still very long, i simply do not know how to shut up!i do have to say this episode was quite fun to navigate, especially in regards to tv shows because they are one of my favourite! i am kinda mad that i rushed a bit and wasn't able to take the time for all part of the podcast. i talked about family, whether blood or found, is something that deserves to be unpacked and some light on the podcast. i hope you enjoy it and feel some gratitude towards your loved ones!bisous, bisousmarion x🂱music - Everything I Wanted by Billie Eilish (2020), Older by Sasha Alex Sloan (2018), Olélé Moliba Makasi by Jean-Marie Bolangassa, Once Upon the Time in the West (Live at Alchemy) by Dire Straits (1979), and Lianne La Havas' Say a Little Prayer (2016)tv show - NBC's This is Us (2016) and ABC's Station 19 (2018)book - Breast & Egg by Mieko Kawakami (2008) Hosted on Acast. i thought this episode would be shorter.. but nope, it was nothing but messy! which only made sense seeing the subject i tried to tackle!i think I was not quite comfortable dealing with this subject, and it's definitely something that was felt. i talked about my experience, which came from a place of love and care. i hope you can appreciate that - I am always eager to hear from you!so here's to navigating life in whatever way and setting we decide to. and to many more experiences that allow us to define and refine who we are!comme toujours, marion xx🂱music - Olivia Dean, Carmen (2023)Sabrina Carpenter, Eyes Wide Open (2014)Hozier, Nina Cried Power ft. ep. 4 - oh, to be a woman in her 20s everyday life
this episode is soo long i am so sorry - like I said multiple time in this episode, women and mundane everyday habits is one of my favorite thing to talk about.i think here i took the time to talk, to read and to listen - which i noticed is not something i usually do - it doesn't mean i don't appreciate it, but i guess it's nice to take time every now and then.i hope you enjoy this episode, i hope some of you relate to this notion of loving everyday life, though i know i targeted this episode more towards the girlies. but still!hope you enjoyed it, avec pleins de bisous. et de bonne vibes, marion xx🂱music - Celeste's first album, Not Your Muse (2021)specifically talking about the songs: Not Your Muse, The Promise (and Break My Heart Again by Finneas), Both Sides of the Moon, and It's Alright ft. ABOUT THIS SHOW
culture of the day is a very niche part of my brain where i explore all the things related to movies, media, and music. sometimes, i even talk/ think about art!this is an outlet for me to be vulnerable, open, excited, passionate, genuine and wholesome - because there is rarely anything purer than someone talking about things they like with their whole being!so welcome, bienvenue - i hope you enjoy it.avec amour, marion x Hosted on Acast.
