Dadanaut’s Feed

Dadanaut is a dadaistic wayfarer.

"Zentralkomitee" (Central Committee) is a fascinating conceptual journey that balances the absurd with the ominous. Dadanaut invites listeners into a satirical, bureaucratic dystopia where a shadowy committee oversees everything from "singing fridges" to "hypnotised squirrels." Yet, beneath this layer of Monty Python-esque humour lies a darker undercurrent—a commentary on surveillance, control, and the "unexplained." Musically, the album is an "electric odyssey," blending elements of 80s new wave, 70s progressive rock, and modern cinematic soundscapes. It moves seamlessly from driving, rhythmic tracks to deep, ambient phases, creating a dynamic listening experience that feels both retro and futuristic.

"Brimborium"—a delightful German term that roughly translates to "fuss," "palaver," or "unnecessary bells and whistles"—is the fitting title for Dadanaut’s latest instrumental offering. True to its name, the album is a self-proclaimed anthem for the unnecessary, composed with a cheeky grin and a liberating philosophy: Why not? Nobody’s going to listen anyway. Far from being a throwaway effort, however, this approach has resulted in a collection of tracks that feel refreshingly unburdened. It is an ode to the sheer joy of creation, stripped of the weight of commercial expectation or the need for success. The music invites the listener into a playful sea of "unimportant noise," finding charm in the nonsense and drama of it all.

Are there knock-on effects of mass hysteria? In spirit it’s a political record, sharply critical of society — though it may just be Dadanaut’s mind cinema. An orchestra of arpeggiators strikes up; pads were born from dozing off on the keys. Then, jolting back from dreams, a handful of naïve melodies simply… happened. The stoic guitar was no more planned than the rest. It was meant to be a guitar‑less album like ‘Kabale’, and then, deliberately, became something else. Created entirely in Bitwig, with many instruments from u‑he and TAL Software, produced on Tuxedo OS. With thanks for early listens and feedback to Felix and Henri. Best experienced on headphones – mind cinema guaranteed. Release date: 22. September 2023

    Katastrophendemenz

Katastrophendemenz = Catastrophic Dementia After the barrage comes the sweeping up. The debris is sorted, the names organised and listed, and the spokespeople say: it had to be this way. The choir nods: there really was no alternative. Many commissions have examined and confirmed this beforehand. The maps are redrawn, the medals polished, the treaties signed. We hang ‘Never again’ above shelves where the next helmets are already lying. When the guns fall silent, forgetting begins its work: the devastation, poverty, scars, lost dreams, traumas and hatred remain, while the questions have already been wiped away. Next time it's defence, the time after that it's liberation, and the third time it's everyday life. So we practise forgetting and wallow in repetition until war remains and only the empty phrases change. Perhaps we should read what happened before repeating what will happen. But catastrophic dementia is probably more diligent than memory. It is an earlier version of the Song 'Leichtigkeitsmomente' from the Album 'Phantasmagorien'. And still in development.

    Sternenfinder

A concept album of daylight phantasmagoria: on a sun‑drenched summit the world feels at once familiar and strange, its edges alive and shifting. In the shimmering haze, forms begin to stir — a silent procession of spectres; a tree briefly a raised human arm; clouds swelling into creatures before collapsing back to formless vapour. He cannot tell whether he dreams or wakes, whether these visions arise from within or have always lain hidden in the fabric of reality. A sudden gust scatters them; what remains is a vast, profound stillness. Tracks include ‘Sternenfinder’, ‘Eisenkernspule’ and ‘Krampus’. Created entirely in Bitwig, with many instruments and effects from u‑he, AudioThing, Decent Samples and TAL, produced on Tuxedo OS. A cross‑platform toolchain (Linux, Windows, macOS) that keeps the process free and flexible. Best experienced on headphones – mind cinema guaranteed. Release date: 31. May 2025

    Analyse

A know-it-all once suggested the Dadanaut ought to turn his gaze inward. He did – and what he found was at once surprising and unsettling. As Goethe noted in 1810 in the preface to ‘Theory of Colours’, every attentive look tends to become theory; here, objectivity proved impossible, because the subject was the self. The way there was blocked, and the real battle lay in discerning whether the obstacles were real or imagined. He even checked into the infirmary and sought help, yet no definitive resolution presented itself. These pieces are remixes of tracks from the album ‘Der Zeitblick einer Minute’. They may veer towards the melancholic – though melancholy can be its own kind of happiness. Best experienced on headphones – mind cinema guaranteed.

    Menschmaschine

A concept journey with the Dadanaut in the whirlpool of intrigue: one plot begets a counter-plot, workers and superiors are set against each other – or are darker forces at work? Who has the greater staying power, and who, in the end, can resolve the counter-plot – if anyone? Inspired by Fritz Lang’s ‘Metropolis’ and Erich Kästner’s ‘The School for Dictators’. Shaped by friends, nature, life, books, comics and, once again, a few unforeseeable coincidences. Musically: an instrumental ambient/drone/metal soundtrack with a dash of electronica. Touchstones: Neu!, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Ash Ra Tempel, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Popol Vuh, Bach. Best experienced on headphones – mind cinema guaranteed. Release date: 14. April 2018
