Dear Mango, Podcast | Episode 4 | Write Scared | Clip 1: While The World Watches

Fear and progress can coexist. In this clip from Episode 4 of Dear Mango, Sade and Melissa break down their interpretation of “you just don’t break, do you?” from the inside out. Acknowledging the duality, doing the hard thing at a cost, while the world watches. What happens when you show up to write even though you are scared every single time? In this episode of Dear Mango, Mona sits down with two women who have been doing exactly that. Sade and Melissa reflect on grief, fear, self-judgment, and what it means to put something down on paper when every part of you says you have nothing to say. This is not just a conversation about writing. It is a conversation about what becomes possible when you stop waiting to feel ready.Dear Mango | You Just Don't Break, Do You? Dear Mango Podcast | Episode 4 | Write Scared

Dear Mango | You Just Don't Break, Do You? A podcast about learning to trust yourself when the world expects you to keep performing.Fear and progress can coexist. In Episode 4 of Dear Mango, Mona Khalil sits down with two longtime Dear Mango reflection session participants, Sade and Melissa, for an honest conversation about fear, writing, and the courage it takes to keep showing up anyway.Sade opens the episode with something most people wouldn’t admit out loud. Every single time she writes, she is literally scared. And yet she keeps coming back. Through grief, self-judgment, and a decade-long block that began the night before her husband died suddenly. Sade has been slowly learning that what she thinks is true and what is actually true are very different things. And that distinction, she says, is good information to have.Melissa brings her own story of sporadic journaling, abstract painting, and the surprising moment she wrote a poem she did not know she had in her. Three years of workshops, coaching, therapy, yoga, and meditation later, she is only beginning to make sense of how it all connects. The subconscious, she says, finds a way to surface what you need even when you do not have the words for it yet.Together they explore:The gap between what you think you have to say and what actually comes out when you writeWhat it means to hold two things at the same time without having to chooseThe difference between going from unconscious to tangible and being where you want to beWhy community makes the vulnerable possibleWhat it looks like to release something into the world before you feel readyAs Mona reflects in the conversation, coaching brings the invisible visible. This episode is that process made audible.Ready to Write Scared With Us?Dear Mango Reflection Sessions are open now. Dear Mango, Podcast | Episode 2 | The Marathon

You Just Don't Break, Do You? A podcast about learning to trust yourself when the world expects you to keep performing.According to a 2025 study, we are on autopilot more than 88% of the time. Less than half of us can accurately name what we are feeling in any given moment. And while 95% of us believe we are self-aware, only 10 to 15% actually are. This episode is about that gap.Self-awareness is not self-criticism. It is not performing healing or having it all figured out. It is the moment you look up and ask yourself what you actually need right now. It is a practice you can start or return to at any time.In this episode of Dear Mango, Mona Khalil explores what self-awareness looks like when the external world is designed to exhaust your attention, how to tell the difference between self-awareness and self-criticism, why writing it down gives you back your power, and what the science of memory, attention, and mindfulness has to do with trusting yourself.Resources:Feelings WheelElizabeth Loftus on How Memory Can Be ManipulatedJosh JohnsonDiary of a CEO with Dr.K, Harvard-trained PsychiatristDr. Amishi Jha’s Cognitive Neuroscientist on Mindfulness ResearchThe Invisible Gorilla ExperimentSteve Bannon PBS Frontline Interview 2019Reflection prompt: Write about a recent conversation you had. Dear Mango, Podcast | Episode 1 | You Just Don't Break, Do You? | Clip 2: This Podcast Is About

Some people don't snap into a new mindset. They grow into it. They heal into it.In this clip from Episode 1, Mona quietly dismantles the pressure to perform transformation and offers something more honest in its place. You don't owe anyone the details of what you've been through. What you've learned and whether it might help someone else is generous in and of itself. Dear Mango is built for people who own that things are always shifting, as they constantly figure things out, while being both teacher and student of their own lives. ✍🏽For some people, it's less about snapping into a mindset. It's more about growth and healing to be in a mindset. — September 27, 2017Episode 1 | Out Now
