    Understanding Hearing Loss with Litigation Lawyer Ashley Heilprin Hunter

    On today's episode, we'll be talking to litigation lawyer Ashley Heilprin Hunter.  An alum of UNC Chapel Hill and The College of William & Mary, Ashley has been a leader in the legal community, building a reputation as a talented litigator, successfully trying cases to verdict and negotiating favorable settlements.  Ashley also suffers from Hearing Loss.  According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, hearing loss refers to a partial or total inability to hear, or hearing thresholds outside the range of typical hearing. This can be due to problems in the outer, middle, or inner ear, or the auditory nerve.  According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 1 in 8 adults have bilateral hearing loss, meaning in both ears.  Today, we’re going deeper.

    R&B Singer Vivian Green & her Journey as a Special Needs Advocate

    On today's episode, we'll be talking to R&B singer & songwriter Vivian Green.  Since 2002, we’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster jamming to her music, but in 2004 her son Jordan was born with a rare unknown syndrome. Vivian has become a huge advocate for special needs children, sharing her journey as mom & caretaker the last 20 years. We’re so excited to go deeper with Vivian, join us!

    Going Beyond The Stutter with Vondell Pilcher

    On today's episode, we'll be talking to Vondell Pilcher. In his own podcast "Beyond The Stutter" he works to give individuals a voice to those who are enslaved by their speech challenges. Pilcher and his co-host Antoine share to inspire and motivate people with their personal stories and insights on overcoming speech impediments, dysfluency & stuttering. According to the DSM-5 dysfluency is defined as disruptions in the normal fluency and timing patterns of speech that are not typical for a person's age and language skills. This disorder is characterized by symptoms like repetitions of sounds or syllables, broken words, filled or unfilled pauses, blocks in speech flow and excessive muscular tension in facial or bodily movement. These disfluencies may cause anxiety about speaking or limit effective communication. Although about 5% of all children stutter at some point in their lives, about 1% continue to stutter lifelong.     Discussing Autism with NASCAR’s Armani Williams

    In this episode of Deeper Than A Disorder, we sit down with NASCAR Driver Armani Williams. Williams is the first NASCAR driver openly diagnosed on the autism spectrum, and one of four black race car drivers currently competing in NASCAR. Over the course of his NASCAR career, Williams' cars have often sported blue paint schemes with the blue autism puzzle pieces to symbolize his diagnosis on the spectrum and to raise awareness.     Dissociative Identity Disorder with Filmmaker Dallin Mello

    On this episode of Deeper Than A Disorder, we sit down with filmmaker, producer, and multimedia journalist Dallin Mello. His documentary examines the lives of those living with dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder, which is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct personality states (also known as alters) that take control of a person's behavior. We’ll be talking to Dallin about his experience creating this film and working with someone who at one point was diagnosed with this disorder.
