Don’t Ask Me To Talk

Topics from the ridiculous to the sublime await listeners of Don’t Ask Me to Talk with Stacy Heller & Eric Reidar. Stacy and Eric chat about what’s good; from which movies and shows to watch, music to explore or rediscover, books and podcasts to binge or places to visit, and more. They’ll share and discuss what they know and what they don’t.

Kitchen Aids, Johnny Clay, and May/December Relationships

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere and to celebrate Stacy has a gin and tonic and learns the correct way to say sláinte (slawn-che) which means health. In other news worth toasting Veranda Beach is offering listeners of DAMTT 10 percent of their stay (during the summer of 2026)! Stacy rants about the expense of weddings and how wedding gift registries have changed since she was a bride-to-be and Eric has his and her vacuums that really suck which may be the greatest thing that ever happened to him. Far better than part two of his upcoming gum graft surgery and tooth implant or BTL (Brazilian tooth lift). Missing teeth aren’t just for hillbillies plus; they’re an opportunity to suck Jello between your teeth – don’t knock it ‘til you try it. Also try making a straw wrapper worm. There’s a conversational side quest about Costco memberships, landlines and Welcome Back Kotter before Stacy and Eric regroup to discuss their Cultural Blindspots: Harold and Maude for Stacy and Witness and The Killing for Eric. Listen to their thoughts and opinions. As for their opinion on women’s ages when it comes to relationships, it’s personal, but keep it legal folks! Veranda Beach, Badges, and Tall Boys

Eric, TG (the girlfriend) and Gertie are finally (probably) going to visit Veranda Beach! It’s especially exciting since Veranda Beach is our new show sponsor; it’s easy to promote something you already love! What Stacy DOESN’T love is eye doctors that suggest blepharoplasty and dress shopping. Eric had been “dating” himself by going alone to concerts, including seeing The Wedding Present and Art Brut. When it comes to how they spend their free time, Stacy and Eric are an odd couple which also happens to be Stacy’s Cultural Blindspot this week – The Odd Couple movie based on a Neil Simon play. While Stacy yucked it up, Eric found the Treasure of The Sierra Madre which is another movie on the AFI’s list of 100 American films to see. Both movies were recommended to watch even if the score of the latter movie was meh. Eric also recommends DTF Saint Lewis which is not what you might expect. As for the weekly debate, there’s no debate, however base it may seem, women prefer tall men. You could argue all others get the short stick! Bootys, Baby, and Date Night Ideas

Eric heard a song from the elusive “Booty Jamz” compilation while at the grocery store which reminds them of the revelation about what B stands for at HEB grocery stores. He also learned that DJ Casper and Mr. C are the same person – Willie Perry Jr. And speaking of dance, shout out to the Hungarian politician who danced like no one was dancing, it’s tough doing your own thing when dancing unless it’s a 15 second TikTok dance! Stacy attended Cornyation for San Antonio’s annual Fiesta which was almost as spicy as the bumper stickers Eric saw recently. For their Cultural Blindspots segment, Stacy shares that she saw Bringing Up Baby and Room. The first was an old classic screwball romcom while the second was a more recent true crime-like thriller, both were good. Meanwhile Eric watched Gus Van Sant’s remake of Psycho which was less good despite an almost shot for shot redo; the casting may be the issue. He also explored another Sam Raimi directed movie with a stacked cast, The Quick & The Dead which was awesome! As for “date night,” there was some debate on whether you still go on dates once you’re in a relationship, but Stacy and Eric can agree that it doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to be fun. Weird Songs Sung Sundaes

Stacy starts the show more subdued than usual having just been to therapy before recording where she explored being “too much.” Don’t worry, her self-awareness quickly goes out the window. Now that her house in Washington has closed, she and her husband continue to explore their new environs like HEB (B for Butt!?). Talk of the two-step devolves into a conversation about quirky songs like the Casper Slide, Scatman, Cotton-Eyed Joe and Crazy Frog. Eric is brack at making tea brack, but cherries are too expensive in this economy! As for Cultural Blindspots, Stacy finished watching Song Sung Blue which was in fact very blue. She also saw Project Hail Mary which was NOT rocky at all! Eric watched Is This Thing On? which is a newer movie directed by Bradley Cooper. For a movie based on being a standup comic, it wasn’t very funny. He also started rewatching Malcolm in the Middle since the reboot is out soon and found it to be very funny. As for the perfect sundae, Eric argues it’s in a waffle cone with no toppings and Stacy loves the Almond Joy Sundae from COHO, an old Issaquah fave. They were split on banana splits. Dial M for Mother Mary

The highest of all (Catholic) Holy days happened (Easter) and now Stacy has hymns stuck in her head (you can really rock out to; Here I Am Lord). The conversation did yield new information about Eric; he did the readings at church which gave him the confidence to hone his talent for talk. In addition to hymns and ham, Stacy met “the boyfriend” (her daughter's new bf) and Eric went to the movies. The former went very well, and the latter included unfinished popcorn and heavy breathing which could be solved if seating assignments were more like the college roommate pairing process. After a quick convo about how Neveda makes us sick, it was time Cultural Blindspots. Stacy went high, Dial M for Murder and low, Real Housewives of Rhode Island and Below Deck while Eric went to the movies for his first EVER Ryan Gosling movie. He was a big fan of Project Hail Mary and shared his usual insightful commentary. If you’re looking for something else to watch on the small screen, consider St. Denis Medical; it’s got Office-like vibes and humor. As for who Stacy and Eric are more like, their mother or father, it’s a mixed bag with mixed feelings. Are y’all aliens? And the twist

Stacy shares the tale of getting her Texas license which involves the straight-out-of-central-casting Dept. of Public Safety in the town of Frederickburg. While Stacy’s husband was a wreck anticipating the process, Stacy eased in like a drawl and the process went down like sweet tea! What’s the difference between a Farmer’s Market and a Maker’s Market? See if you agree. Speaking of makers, Eric ventured to the new Maker’s Lab at the Tacoma Public Library to create a masterpiece of modern engineering; the process is ongoing and involves a free Hoover vacuum. Continuing to tick off items off their Cultural Blindspot Stacy watched Modern Times (Eric’s recommendation from last time) and Pulp Fiction. Eric watched something from the century, in fact from the most recent Oscar’s race, Begonia with Emma Stone. Once again opinions and thumbs up or down were shared. On the topic of Biggest Lie” it was determined that Stacy is the biggest liar (among other things) while Eric was once a fraud. The Modern Times of Buc-ee’s, Tea Brack, and K-Pop

Stacy isn’t the only one that lives far away, it turns out there’s DAMTT listeners all over the country (and world)! But how many of them have experienced Buc-ee’s? Stacy and her husband made the pilgrimage and as promised, it’s a lot, from “Beaver Chips” to brisket and bathing suits, Buc-ee’s delivers. Eric had a less in-your-face time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with tea brack and colcannon. He also has FSA money to spend so let the loophole search on how to spend it best begin. Eric’s Cultural Blindspot of the week is on the AFI 100 list, Modern Times with Charlie Chaplin. It was a movie square on the fence between the silent era and “talkies” about finding and keeping a job in the face of modern times. Also starring Paulette Goddard, Eric was surprised to find he enjoyed it so much and saw the seeds of many comedy bits like I Love Lucy’s chocolate factory episode. Stacy watched KPop Demon Hunters which she was also surprised to enjoy since she’s not into K-pop or manufactured bands. Her takeaway was its good for children AND your inner child. As for nicknames, Ric-y Radio/E/Eric has none while Beans/Stacky/Fire Face/Stacy has plenty to go by and give! Dolly Parton, Boo Radley and Spilled Booze

Stacy is still getting adjusted to life in San Antonio with days mostly punctuated by sun, heat, deliveries, and service calls with folks like the grumpy clock guy. She’s also learning about life with hard water which Eric is surprisingly well-versed in. His update is less sunny as he found out he didn’t read the fine print about his gum graft surgery; like that there’s a part two!! It’s enough to make you wonder about the ROI on dental procedures. But in good news, Battersea played another great show even if Eric did spill his drink. Stacy and Eric both checked off Cultural Blindspots; Stacy watched 9 to 5 while Eric watched, To Kill a Mockingbird. Eric also watched Band of Brothers and Pacific which was awesome but brutal. The weekly topic was fantastic failure which made for hilarious and heartfelt conversation that taught us not to be phased by failure (which we all fail to do). Battersea, Birthdays, and Bad Coworkers

The band is back together, except not really since Stacy is finally in her new home in San Antonio. While Eric has been prepping for his latest Battersea gig at The Central Salon and adjusting to Daylight Savings, Stacy has been unpacking, learning the two-step at Stable Hall, and trying out local bars. At Otto’s Icehouse she ran into Spurs Jesus which was not a religious experience although Stacy and Eric had some thoughts on adding other biblical icons to make a sort of Peanuts-esque gang for SJ to hang with at games. As for Cultural Blindspots, Stacy finally watched Weapons on a recent flight and was semi-surprised by how much she liked it. Meanwhile Eric continues to overachieve by watching not one, but two movies; Key Largo, a Bogart and Becall movie with a film noir vibe and Tucker, The Man, The Car. While sharing it’s clear Stacy knows all the “hot goss” about dead Hollywood stars and nothing about cars. Eric shares his surprise that the Tucker movie was directed by famed Godfather director, Francis Ford Coppola since it seems more like what would be considered an “indie” these days. As for the week’s top topic, annoying coworker behaviors, Eric has more actual experience in a classic office setting, but Stacy has more thoughts. In this episode of Don’t Ask Me to Talk, Stacey preps for a chaotic move to San Antonio while debating whether her Cabo trip will actually happen. Eric tries to play voice‑of‑reason as they detour through Texas heat, Buc‑ee’s culture, and the mystery of H‑E‑B.They dive into their cultural blind spots—from Empire Records to America’s Next Top Model—touch on the darker side of reality TV, swap hilarious pet‑bathroom stories, and debate who their dream corporate sponsors would be (Diet Coke and Rickenbacker Guitars, naturally).Next week’s topic teaser: microwaving fish and other annoying coworker behavior. Devil Dogs, Metaline Mike and Roofman Leave Us a Voicemail

In this lively new episode of Don’t Ask Me to Talk, Stacy and Eric are back together in studio! The conversation kicks off with an exploration of regional snacks, including Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews, disappointing Devil Dogs, and the disappearance of penny candy. From inflation to claw machines to the mystery of red pistachios. The duo then embarks on an unexpectedly serious civic mission: naming the official Pacific Northwest groundhog. Move over Punxsutawney Phil — it’s time for Metaline Mike, Washington’s very own furry weather forecaster. And yes, the marketing plan is already in the works. In this week’s Cultural Blind Spots, Stacey watches Sophie's Choice for the first time and breaks down what makes it so iconic (and devastating). Eric counters with the cult‑classic anthology Creepshow and the surprisingly charming, based‑on‑a‑true‑story film Roofman. Together, they cover the full emotional spectrum — from heavy to goofy. For the Top Topic Great Debate, they tackle modern communication etiquette:📱 How long is too long for a text, voicemail, or voice memo?📞 Is voicemail basically extinct?👀 And why are young people suddenly FaceTiming everything? It’s funny, it’s thoughtful, it’s nostalgic, it’s chaotic — in other words, a classic Don’t Ask Me to Talk episode.Next time: our dream sponsorsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

    Love, Getting Help, and Zaddies

DAMTT: Love, Getting Help, and ZaddiesIt’s been a minute since Stacy and Eric asked listeners to leave a review and get 15 seconds of fame and appreciation; you too can join the fun! Speaking of fun, Eric celebrates 15 years with “the gf” with dinner at Indochine and a movie while Stacy celebrates her daughter who is twice as old (30). Stacy shares a story about her mother’s “vintage” mattress and the “vintage” dance partners she had while visiting her mother. It reminded Eric of the old Craftmatic adjustable recliner ads with Art Linklater. Thanks to checking off their Cultural Blindspots (and watching the Godfather movies), Eric and Stacy have a better appreciation for the recently deceased Robert Duvall. That reminds Stacy of recently seeing Catherine O”Hara in Best in Show, a hilarious close look at a VERY specific “sport/hobby.” Eric’s romantic Valentine movie date was to see Send Help which was a cross between Castaway and Misery and a whole lot of fun. Eric also watched the movie Novocain with Hollywood nepo-baby Jack Quaid which was also surprisingly good! Cultural Blindspots can also be regional as Stacy shares her love of Goldenbergs Chews and Drake’s Devil Dogs. Stacy and Eric play Kiss, Marry, Avoid (a take on the more common Eff, Marry, Kill game) with random options of “Cougars” or “Zaddies.” Some interesting choices are made and p.s. Eric definitely prefers the older ladies! Snarcasm, Socks, Last Meals and Getting Back in the Habit

Snarcasm might just be Stacy’s new favorite blended word, like complisault or frenemies, thanks Eric! While Eric went shopping during “the big game,” Stacy was en route to visit her mother in PA and not even new pants, sneakers, a shirt too much ketchup can beat hearing 80-something year old women discuss Bad Bunny grabbing his crotch. Eric makes a hilarious point about how when we’re 80-somethings we’ll look back fondly on the days when the Red-Hot Chili Peppers played with Flea only wearing a sock to cover his peni$. Speaking of Eric’s love of sports, he’s been taking the stairs lately at work and is to the point where he doesn’t immediately need oxygen. For his Cultural Blindspot, Eric watched Logan’s Run which he had mentioned in the previous episode. Generally, he was a big fan of the very 70’s sci-fi flick but an even bigger fan of Jenny Agutter. He also watched Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst which he was surprised to also enjoy. Meanwhile, stuck at her mom’s Stacy lived and watched Golden Girls. AS for the top topic, lasagna was mentioned and Stacy found a loophole. The Big Game, Bad Guys, and Pink Liquid

What does Eric do during the big game?” He goes shopping naturally. Stacy ignores the game, scrolls on her phone and grazes at snacks; clearly, they’re the sporty types. Does having access to two screens (phone and TV, laptop or tablet) diminish the primary experience you’re supposed to be present for? Is there a superior sense between hearing and seeing? Do you get more nuance from the former or the latter? Does Eric have undiagnosed ADHD? Are all kids with easy and early access to screens doomed to have it too? Should there be a component of driving tests where you have to text or root for a rogue binky? These are the compelling conversational tangents Stacy and Eric take this time on DAMTT. Eric returned the kids’ books Stacy lent him which ties in perfectly with her Cultural Blindspot, seeing Zootopia in a theater with a gaggle of littles. Stacy thinks Eric’s lack of watching kids’ fare is a HUGE gaping CB which Eric is in no hurry to remedy. Ironically, he watched Wonder Man, the new limited Marvel series on Disney which one could argue is kid-ish (hello, superheroes?!?). He also watched Weapons which sounded intriguing even to spicy level 2 Stacy. As for “Real Ads,” Eric met Flo once, and in an unrelated tangent, Stacy comes up with a real ad to sell tampons other than blue or pink liquid. Where is Everybody?

DAMTT: Where is Everybody?Don’t Ask Me to Talk has listeners from around the world, not just C-eh, n-eh, d-eh which is a surprise to no one except Stacy and Eric. In other news Eric survived not just his gum graft, but his gum graft post-surgery diet and his cold is gone which means to keep him humble the universe sent him an eye that looks like he went a round. Naturally this resulted in a conversation around how wearing sunglasses may be the one vanity thing that works – covering something lame with something that makes you look cool (think Macron, pirates, Bono, and Biden). Stacy is on edge with her impending move leading her to point out it’s like the book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, which Stacy is shocked to learn Eric has NEVER read. As for Cultural Blindspots, Stacy watched her first episode ever of The Twilight Zone and was rightfully impressed with how on edge it leaves you. Meanwhile, Eric watched an old Warren Beatty movie based mostly in Seattle called The Parallax View and a newer old movie, Gladiator. While not factual, it was enjoyable, but enough to watch number 2? Maybe not…as for the week’s top topic, folding a fitted sheet, Eric shares a life hack, and Stacy invokes Martha Stewart’s name. Solar Savings & Loans, CHUDS and Studs

After missing a week-long hiatus due to an ever-changing schedule, the duo is reunited and it feels so good! While Stacy was in the sunshine of San Antonio, Eric was driving his sunshine (which is case you’re wondering, is not stored in the cloud). After a lesson on how solar works, sharing about how forgettable the Alamo is, and learning about the ideal post-gum graft recovery plan– a no exercise, all carb, and soft food diet, the pals are mostly caught up. For his Cultural Blindspot Eric checked off something old and something new; he saw the new movie, “One Battle After Another” which he argues was PTA’s (Paul Thomas Anderson’s) best film possibly since “Boogie Nights.” He also watched the Glen Powell remake of “The Running Man” which was good and less campy than the 80’s version with “The Arnold.” Meanwhile, Stacy finally watched, “A Star is Born,” the latest iteration with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. Now she wants to see the others too. In possibly the BIGGEST revelation, Eric acknowledges Stacy was right about “Heated Rivalry” being a thing. Finally, Eric and Stacy find three words so sum themselves up – no barbs were thrown, it was pragmatic and sweet. DAMTT is on Facebook and Instagram as @dontaskme to talk or email [email protected] Next Time: Folding a Fitted SheetSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Stella, Marching Bands and Overrated Daily Rituals

DAMTT: Stella, Marching Bands and Overrated Daily RitualsAre you surprised that Stacy has no problem talking with strangers or injecting in their conversations? Neither is Eric as he pulls a quote from a Simpson’s episode that parodies A Streetcar Named Desire. This leads to a story about Ethan Hawke. Eric is prepping for his gum grafting surgery which sounds hideous and led Eric to declare, “NO.” Did you feel the earth move too?? Meanwhile Gertie awaits her checkup results – fingers crossed she’s doing better! Stacy’s story arc has shifted from ankle updates to moving hassles and hilarity. Eric checked off a musical for his Cultural Blindspot this week; another one inspired by the Simpon’s, he watched The Music Man. While entertained by a very young and cute Shirley Jones, Eric was less impressed with Harold Hill’s non-scam scam that could have been trimmed down a bit. Meanwhile, Stacy has a new appreciation for Lego building as she puts back together several broken sets that could bring in money. Somehow this leads to a story about Eric rewatching Indiana Jones and the odd story of the two minor league baseball players, both named Brady Feigl. As for this episode’s top topic, Overrated Daily Rituals, Stacy and Eric agree selfcare is just a good habit and the rest could be superstition, OCD, addiction, or just a personal quirk. Tinsel Rock Water

It’s the most festive time of year, unless you’re Stacy trying to find shiny red balls for your Christmas tree! While they’ve been elusive, tinsel isn’t and is currently tormenting Stacy’s grandcat much to Eric’s dismay (tinsel butt plug!). His favorite ornaments growing up doubled as cat toys. While Stacy stresses, Eric doesn’t sweat it since his tree typically goes up on Christmas Eve. He has been enjoying watching his neighbor’s “legs.” Stacy gave Eric a book on Easter Island, mistaking it for Stonehenge because of rocks, duh. Eric shares a health update on Gertie (donations welcome). Eric also shares that he was in a band with Roy Disney’s grandson before he gave up percussion for combustion. Dear Crabby makes a comeback asking for good gift ideas for adult children which Eric and Stacy share; from charity to Bop It, they share some real winners before sharing this week’s Cultural Blindspots. Eric rewatched the first two Knives Out movies before watching the third all starring the last James Bond, Daniel Craig. Which leads to Stacy’s CB, “Live and Let Die,” per Eric’s review from a previous episode. Lastly, they discuss the weird debate about whether water is wet. Two-Legged Lamps, Jaws, and Choosing Wit

After missing a week due to sickness, Stacy and Eric are together again! Stacy is knee-deep in prepping her house for sale, which is making her way less enthused to decorate her house, while per tradition, Eric’s place is decorated, save for the tree which will go up eventually. Naturally this leads to a rabbit hole about real versus fake trees and holiday smells. Speaking of smells, Stacy had a sensory shopping experience that was doggone awful! Eric has some recent wins with both his deck and solar panels finally being done, just in time for the rain. As for Cultural Blindspots, Stacy has been WAY too busy watching bad holidating movies to check anything off the list whereas Eric checked off every James Bond movie featuring Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton. His take was the movies weren’t terribly smart, but they were very funny, a theme that ties perfectly into this episode’s topic of Smart vs. Funny. In the end Stacy and Eric agree that a smart person picks a funny one. DAMTT is on Facebook and Instagram as @dontaskme to talk or email [email protected] Next Time: Is Water Wet?See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Showbox, Bond, Kolchak & Tranquility

This episode seems to mark the beginning of a busy season. Stacy went down a rabbit hole making decisions about what to get rid of (does it have value? Do the kids want it? Do I care?), she went to a show at The Showbox with Sir Mix-A-Lot and Macklemore along with a bunch of talented kids, saw “Now You See Me, Now You Don’t” and had all four kids come home for Thanksgiving! Eric shared a Gertie update, a story about the dermatologist and the latest on his various home projects. He also got a free turkey which reminds Stacy of the infamous WKRP Thanksgiving episode (worth looking up on YouTube). Eric replays part of the Cameo that Sir Mix-A-Lot did for Stacy before they start talking about their Cultural Blindspots of the week. For Eric, he continued with the Bond franchise watching the first one with Roger Moore, “Live and Let Die,” which may also be the best Bond song ever (sung by Paul McCartney and Wings. Eric goes into some of the ridiculous details (remember the guy from the 7Up ads and Jane Seymour?) but also admits it was a fun watch! Stacy doesn’t check off any blindspots this week but does talk about the infamous niche that is Hallmark-type Holiday rom coms. This naturally somehow leads to “Die Hard”, “A Christmas Story” and the leg lamp and “The Night Strangler” movie based in Seattle with the father from “A Christmas Story” playing Kolchak. Unsurprisingly there’s a tangent about the merch from some of these movies that have become iconic – who doesn’t want a leg lamp or moose eggnog glasses!?! As for the Weekly Topic, Stacy picks a classic Billy Joel song that tells a story, switches tempo and last over seven minutes long while Eric goes for his usual esoteric vibes and chooses a song called “Sea of Tranquility” from the Wild Swans albus, Spaceflower. He likes the repetitive bass line and hypnotic groove along with the over ten-minute length! Eric noted one big difference in the choices was the choice to engage versus disengage. Stacy suggests a John Mulhaney bit called, “The Salt & Pepper Diner” about the hilarious consequences of playing a song on repeat. DAMTT is on Facebook and Instagram as @dontaskme to talk or email [email protected] Next Week: Smart vs. FunnySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Hanz and Franz, Cheeseballs and Bank Tube Technology

Eric had a great birthday with lots of cake. Meanwhile Stacy has been rowing to build strength a la Hanz & Franz from SNL in the late 80’s. Supposedly there was going to be a movie with Arnold Schwartzenager, but he was too busy to make it happen – Eric said they did a read-through on Conan O’Brian and it was funny! Birthday goodness. Gertie is also dealing with lame healthcare processes and isn’t even cheering up for green beans! Eric dislodges a core childhood memory for Stacy when he says the phrase, “Chicken & Rice,” while he recalls the Saturday morning jingle about beans and rice. Somehow this leads to fond memories of port wine spread (Eric found a Merlot cheese spread) and an offer to share a recipe for a pinecone cheese “ball.” In other news, Eric’s band Battersea had a gig with a small but enthusiastic crowd. Follow them for future show details. As for Cultural Blindspots, we’re kind of contrarians, we didn’t watch what we supposed WHEN we were supposed to so now, we’re making up for lost time. Stacy watched “The Princess Bride,” which is considered a comedy classic while Eric watched “Starship Troopers,” which might be a considered a cult classic/satire. He also recommends some other shows and movies he’s been watching that are (surprisingly) good. Their weekly topic about straws leads to a brilliant idea involving Starbucks, old bank tubes and saving the world. Birthday, Boogers, and Blindspots

It’s Eric’s birthday along with the Earl of Sandwich and Steve Zayn. Stacy fetes the big day with Nothing Bundt Cakes and kind words; after all, it is World Kindness Day! The latest for Eric is his almost complete deck, the newly installed solar panels, and his (and Gertie’s) medical checkup. Ironically both father and (dog) daughter have high cholesterol for which one of them takes a pill the size of a grain of rice. Eric is healthy otherwise, but Gertie might need a little extra help. Although Eric does need periodontal surgery and in sharing his pre-appointment, he tells the story of how the assistant unceremoniously told him about a booger. He about died from embarrassment. Meanwhile Stacy may have given some rando guy her fries today assuming he is unhoused cringe or kind? For their Cultural Blindspots, both Stacy and Eric watched movies set in November which is rare. Stacy watched “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” while Eric revisited the “Back to The Future” trilogy the first of which is celebrating its’ 40th Anniversary! Eric also recommended the “Death by Lightening” series about James Garfield; arguably a period in history that is also a blind spot. The episode ends with the common theoretical question, “What 3 things would we take on a deserted island?” Clearly Eric is more hopeful with his choices, Stacy’s eating chicken. DAMTT is on Facebook and Instagram as @dontaskme to talk or email [email protected] Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

    American Psycho Demands Ice

In this episode of "Don't Ask Me to Talk," Stacy and Eric pull the thread on a variety of stories and musings, from the embarrassing (for Stacy) moment of pulling a hair off her male friend’s sweater only to realize it was still attached to his chest, to the should have been awkward moment of a waiter spilling Coke on Eric’s girlfriend’s sweater (he was deft so it was fine). This leads to a rabbit hole about how Europeans drink soda without ice (Stacy is NOT a fan), Eric's ice-chewing habit, the common practice of offering women in labor ice chips to chew on, and Eric training to be his mother’s Lamaze coach (he got out of it when literal push came to shove)! They share life updates, including Eric’s Halloween adventures (or lack thereof), in a medical mask and the sad closing of his go-to pharmacy Bartell (with no S).Tune in as they explore Cultural Blindspots and the shame associated with having them (sorry, not everyone has seen Rambo). In honor of spooky season Eric watches "Drag Me to Hell" and "American Psycho" while Stacy reflected on the tactile, but short joy of listening to full albums on a record player. For their topic of the week they discuss video games - the social aspect of gaming, and nostalgic memories of arcades and early video game consoles and Beatles Rock Band. It's a lively mix of stories, humor, and insights—perfect for those who love a good tease of everyday life. DAMTT’s European Vacation

The gang is back together again, although not in studio so the sound may be different in this episode. Eric is just back from his European vacation and Stacy is on the eve of leaving for her trip to Italy. For the first half of the show, Stacy peppers Eric with questions about his trip – “the roses” or highlights and “the thorns” or struggles. Unsurprisingly the biggest thorn was the stress of wondering whether the apartment Eric booked in Paris would let him in as he had no communication prior to his arrival. While it all worked out in the end (thanks to the ‘Frenchies,” the process was a thorn in Eric’s side. However, the roses were in full bloom as he and the girlfriend got to visit some new and old favorite places. Eric also got to see some of his all-time favorite bands/musicians while traveling – from the Woodentops and Noel Burke to Edwyn Collins (on his farewell tour) and The Divine Comedy. For the second half of the show, Eric and Stacy shared that they both checked off another Cultural Blindspot; for Eric, The Fugitive and for Stacy, Citizen Kane. They agreed the former was enjoyable if farfetched while the latter was “meh” making its’ reputation as one of the greatest films made all that much more perplexing. In the end they barely touch on the topic of the week, so next week’s episode topic is TBD. Tune in for relatable laughs and pop culture tangents. Rats & Cats, Mahjong and Holiday Décor Debates

DAMTT: Rats & Cats, Mahjong and Holiday Décor DebatesIn this episode of "Don’t Ask Me to Talk," Stacy shares while visiting “Joan” (her mother), she’s been painting ladybug rocks for her mother and friends, sparking memories of “A Bug’s Life” and Denis Leary’s hilarious ladybug character, Francis. Things take a turn as Stacy reveals an unfortunate update about a now-infected cat scratch from her grandcat Wilson—cue the Dr. Pimple Popper reference—which leads Eric to recall a classic Seinfeld moment questioning how dermatologists save lives. The duo debates the credibility of certain medical professions, with Eric voicing skepticism about chiropractors. Stacy also recounts joining her mother-in-law and her friends for a lively game of mahjong, while Eric muses about games popular among the older demographic, like golf, poker, and cribbage. Meanwhile, Eric discovers another dead rat in his crawl space and once again tackles the smell with his trusty (and minty) odor killer. As he continues to finalize his travel plans in France, he jokes he might end up sleeping on the streets. The Cultural Blindspots segment features Eric’s passionate correction that “records” is the right term (not “vinyls”) and his review of “Rosemary’s Baby” starring a young Mia Farrow, as well as the prequel “Apartment 7A” with Julia Garner. They talk about the darker side of some of these classic movies and their infamous directors. Wrapping up, the hosts dive into the week’s hot topic: when is the right time to decorate for major holidays? Eric introduces the term “Summerween” to describe the ever-earlier arrival of Halloween décor in stores, sparking a lively debate about trends, retail pressure, and personal preferences. European Adventures and Household Debates

Stacy and Eric kick things off trying to figure out a smoother transition into the show besides “How you doin?” like Joey from Friends. Somehow that leads to conversation about Seinfeld episodes that touch on the infamous J. Peterman catalog and the evolution from collecting CDs to streaming favorite shows on demand now. Eric reports in from his European travels, sharing highlights from his multi-city trip—sightseeing, catching shows, and wondering if he’ll spot the Northern Lights in Iceland. Stacy questions Eric about his radio career beginning in Alaska, he goes on to describe the unique seasons and travel quirks of living in Juneau/Ketchikan. Cultural Blindspots return as Eric admits he’s never seen Forrest Gump, while Stacy suggests a movie night like their previous Godfather viewing. Eric reviews "The Paper" (an Office spin-off), shares his fascination with "Top of the Pops," and muses about quirky UK TV culture. Meanwhile, Stacy recounts her first trip to Applebee’s, a different kind of Cultural Blindspot, and their “studly” pretzels. The hosts then dive into “The Right Way” to tackle everyday household routines from dishwasher loading, toilet paper orientation, sandwich cutting, to folding socks. Eric and Stacy compare their habits, debating both sides of each topic. Tune in for travel tales, pop culture deep-dives, and playful domestic debates! It’s a Girl! Grace Kelly and Mr. Belvedere

In this episode of "Don't Ask Me to Talk," co-hosts Eric Reidar and Stacy Heller kick things off with their signature upbeat banter and a shout-out to their intro music creator, Dave Nelson. Eric discusses the ups and downs of planning his trip to the UK, debating hotel choices and the reliability of online reviews, while Stacy shares updates about her ankle injury and her cats. They also touch on navigating small talk, with Eric recounting an awkward interaction with an acquaintance, and Stacy (in Dear Crabby mode) offering advice on how to handle conversations about pregnancy with sensitivity. For their segment Cultural Blindspots, Stacy reviews the classic film "Annie Hall" and reflects on its significance, style, notorious director, and iconic clothing (Diane Keaton) and performances. Eric talks about watching Hitchcock’s "Dial M for Murder," commenting on its plot, music, and the contained setting, as well as his quest for 3D movie experiences (perhaps a dedicated channel???). The hosts then dive into the main topic of the week, exploring which TV worlds they’d like to inhabit, from nostalgic sitcoms like "Mr. Belvedere" and "Family Ties" to modern series such as "Severance." The discussion is lighthearted, touching on the appeal and pitfalls of different fictional universes, and wraps up with a preview of next week’s topic about household debates, like pre-rinsing dishes before the dishwasher. Knock Knox Jokes, British Blokes and Water Bottle Buildup That’s No joke!

In another classically tangential episode of Don’t Ask Me to Talk, Stacy sips from her trusty Owala bottle while sparking a debate on banning plastic water bottles and recycling schemes that may or may not involve mailing empty bottles to Pollywood. Meanwhile, Eric recounts his misadventures at a Nicky Glazer show—complete with a surprise Amanda Knox comedy set and losing his car in a mystery garage while “The Girlfriend” battles a bug. Stacy continues to battle her ankle injury and referees a feline feud that ends with her “grandcat” Wilson scaling her leg like a tree. The duo swaps wild bumper sticker sightings, Dear Abby zingers, and Reddit threads, then dive into their “Cultural Blindspots” segment with reviews of classic British films. Plus, Stacy’s bottled water family history and a quick stop in Flint, Michigan keep the laughs, if not the water, flowing. Silent Book Clubs and Water Features

Stacy and Eric Tackle Luck vs. Intelligence, Neighborhood Oddities, and Cultural BlindspotsThis week on the podcast, Stacy tries her hand at the show intro (with questionable results—Eric’s still the pro!). She shares her idea for an “empty nest” social channel: just her and her husband deciding what stays and what goes as they clear out their home. Stacy also recounts a recent visit to a Silent Book Club with her daughter Annie, describing the unique blend of quiet reading and casual socializing. The experience reminds her of the TV show “Silent Library” a reference unfamiliar to Eric!Meanwhile, Eric finds himself in a late-summer mood, reflecting on missed opportunities as the season ends. He tells a story about his mysterious neighbors, whom he mostly knows through their dogs. After noticing water running at “Lucky’s” house (name changed to protect the innocent), Eric tries to alert his neighbors and is met with confusion—only to discover later that the culprit was a house sitter and the water feature was intentional. Eric is gifted a thank-you gift card. This story sparks a conversation about the proliferation of doorbell cameras and their surprising role on social media. For this week’s Cultural Blindspot, Eric watches “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” and enjoys the film’s edgy humor and rare collaboration between Warner Bros. and Disney characters. He learns it’s based on the novel “Who Censored Roger Rabbit?” and notes how well the film holds up.On the other side of the pop culture spectrum, Stacy dips her toe into horror with “Scary Movie,” appreciating the parody despite her lack of horror film experience. Eric recommends “Shaun of the Dead” as a follow-up. Their discussion leads to classic comedy: Stacy references Carol Burnett’s famous “Gone with the Wind” parody, a nod that surprises Eric. The main topic: Is it better to be lucky or smart? Stacy argues that luck sometimes plays a crucial role—she credits luck for scoring her house. Eric reflects on career-related luck during the pandemic. Ultimately, they agree: It’s best to be smart enough to recognize opportunity and humble enough to be grateful when luck strikes. Pressed to choose, though, both lean toward luck. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Meanwhile, Eric finds himself dealing with unexpected crawl space surprises and learns about the science behind corpse-odor removal (note: maybe mint isn’t ideal after all). The pair chat about pop culture, including Hugh Jackman's upcoming Neil Diamond-inspired movie with Kate Hudson, Neil Diamond tribute bands. Stacy’s Cultural Blind spots are a follow up to past references for instance, Spinal Tap's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel and Netflix’s "The Thursday Murder Club" while Eric reviews "Interstellar" and its ensemble cast, leading to musings on quotable classics like "Dazed and Confused" and their connections to other iconic films. Meanwhile, Coal’s late-night antics keep Stacy on her toes, and Eric’s dog Gertie is up to her usual mischief, making a brief getaway before returning home in record time. Eric and “the girlfriend” take to Commencement Bay for a kayaking adventure, though not without a minor mechanical malfunction where he almost blew his gasket or was it his valve?! Listener Sudsy in the Suburbs writes in to Dear Crabby about showering habits, prompting a refreshing conversation (pun intended) on the topic. In Cultural Blindspot updates, Stacy surprises Eric by finally watching RoboCop and loving the satirical newsbreaks and the unforgettable ED-209 stair mishap. Eric recounts his adventures, from playing a gig at The Valley with Battersea (and selling another coveted T-shirt!), to kayaking with “the girlfriend” and spotting sea lions and celebrating his dad’s birthday over a fish-leaping lunch. Stacy, meanwhile, faces down two surprise bats hiding in her patio umbrella—no bueno, but plenty of guano. The duo swaps stories about gluttonous grocery trips and cross-border sweet treats, including Stacy’s Canadian wine gums (not “gummies”—don’t worry, border guards, they’re THC-free!). That leads to a detour into UK canned cocktails, notably Eric’s preferred Harvey Wallbanger. This week, Stacy brings a burning question to Dear Crabby about kids and cursing, while Eric’s “effing and Jeffing” in ALL CAPS with online customer service cements his “bad boy” reputation. For once, Stacy checks off a Cultural Blindspot by finally watching This is Spinal Tap—turns out it really does go to 11. Eric revisits RoboCop (which he touts as “lightning in a bottle”) and champions The Hudsucker Proxy as a criminally underrated classic. To wrap up, Stacy and Eric ponder which third language they’d learn, after English and high school choices. DAMTT: SURPRISE!The heated debate continues, Stacy and Eric are still arguing about pizza topics from last episode’s topic. Soon talk of Mother’s Day, leaving reviews for restaurants, and “Ass” Crabby distracts the co-hosts. Eric finished OITNB and went on the hunt for Sean Connery’s accent in his Cultural Blindspot segment while Stacy’s blind spot almost got her hit with a foul ball! They are in agreement about surprise parties and wonder aloud whether anyone thinks they’re a good idea before devolving back into debate about pizza. Facebook and Instagram@dontaskmetotalk. Pizza Toppings

DAMTT: Pizza ToppingsThe bridal shower Stacy hosted provided lots of fodder for the show this week; she thought her advice for the bride and groom was inspired, but Eric saw her advice and raised her wiper fluid! While Stacy finished watching White Collar, Eric continued to enjoy OITNB with Tacoma native Vicci Martinez especially now that they’ve begun doing a radio show with advice segment (OMG same!). Being a Phantasm fan versus a Four Seasons fan probably won’t cause as much heated debate as deep crusts and “supreme” pizzas. DAMTT is on Facebook and Instagram @dontaskmetotalk.
